    For ribbon cable, the red conductor is pin-1/conductor-1. Positive and negative pinout will depend on your board and project. Make sure to follow the manual and data sheet for your specific hardware.

    The factories went to everything - one-big-piece, multi-layer PCB. Imma going to suggest old-school luxury trouble-shooting and cable yanking, excess cable in hub, crimp no-splice no-SMT, no bread board. Inline "PCB" and flexible, is old harddisk 40pin or 80pin cable select. Nowadays they hype serial-comms signalling and flexible-PCB and organic-LED and ... Nevermind.

    One piece mobile phone board need separate piece for outside connector to avoid transferring lever-effect torque and break main board. Things were more sensible in the past. Separate lever-effect. Nowadays they bread-board to break-board. Flex cable in-between big small PCB was genius.

    Man I need one of these boards. I read through your post on the Linuxcnc forum. This would probably be a great way for me to add two MPG wheels to control my CNC converted lathe for "Manual operation". Is there a way to get one of these from you some how? I'm using a 7i92 as well. I'll need to flash a new bitfile to get my access to the smart serial pins I'm guessing. I currently run one 5 axis BOB off the existing db25 connector. The other connector on my 7i92 is unused. I also don't have a 7i73, which I wish I had.

    Thanks for checking out my project. I can send you a M.E.S.S.I board, no problem. I am not really selling them at present so Just E-mail me a prepaid USPS label and I can drop one in the post next time I go to town. Send me a msg. through my websites contact page and we can get that ball rolling. Yes, I flashed a new bit file to access more SS pins on the 7i92. During testing I was using one of Peters included bit files. I forget which one. Take a look at the pin files to see if one of the included options works for your application. If not Peter (PCW on the forums) could put one together for you real quick. Looks like Peter/PCW at store.mesanet and John/BigJohnT at MesaUS are both out of stock but the EU dealer EUSurplus has a few 7i73 available. I have found this board to be more useful then I initially anticipated.

    @@DesertShedStudio Yeah that would be awesome. I'll get a 7i73 ordered from overseas. Unfortunately, the only bitfiles that have the potential to work don't include a configuration similar enough for a 7i73 and a 5 axis BOB, but I'll poke around and see if there's something floating around somewhere before asking PCW. I'll send you a prepaid label once I get the 7i73 ordered 👍

    I'm not sure I understood why you had three of your purple boards. Some explanation of what is wired to what would also help understanding.

  • @DesertShedStudio
    @DesertShedStudio Жыл бұрын

    I have three boards connected so I can test each of them after assembly. The purple boards are the only thing connected to the Mesa 7i92. All I/O devices are connected directly to the Mesa 7i73. The purple board connects the 7i92 to the 7i73 using only two 7i92 pins.

    Cute cat! What is the little curcuitboard for? I'm familiar with linuxcnc and mesa cards with smartserial addons, but that looks home-brew?

    Hello Samuel, the purple M.E.S.S.I boards (Mesa Electronic Smart Serial Interface Board) are my own design. They enable adding smart serial daughter boards to controllers with two free fpga pins. Here I am testing three M.E.S.S.I boards with a Mesa 7I92 and 7I73. It can also be used to add additional smart serial outputs to boards like the 7I96S / 7I76E.

    Thanks for the tutorial. One question, I need to connect my motherboard to a programmer, the mobo has 9 pins while the programmer has 8 pin. Do I need a custom cable? or a 10 pin idc would work?

  • @DesertShedStudio

    I often connect mismatched headers with ribbon cable ( 25 pin DB to 26 pin IDC for example), ignoring the unused pins. As long as the number one pins align, not all pins of a connector have to be used/wired. Just double check your pinout on each header. The ribbon cable can be pulled apart at the ends if you need to change the pin order as well. 👍
