Thanks for the kind feedback, I appreciate it. I wish I could make videos for everyone’s different performances, but these videos take awhile to produce, so I can only make them when they apply to a wide audience, hence the all-state excerpts. Perhaps that is the sort of thing that a private instructor could help you to learn. Best of luck, and good wishes 👍

do you have any tips for the changes of treble to alto and vise versa
@sheldonpersonviola10 ай бұрын
If you mean reading the pitches correctly when the music switches from alto to treble clef, I would recommend playing the difficult passages slowly at a keyboard. You need to have the pitches clearly in your ear when you play a string instrument, and sometimes playing things slowly at a keyboard as a first step can help you to find the correct pitches. Hope that helps, and good luck!

@@sheldonpersonviolacould I maybe play it out in violin then find the note in viola (for the higher notes)
@sheldonpersonviola10 ай бұрын
@@Jn_Zrtthat’s right, you could do that. The pitches are the same on violin and on viola. The difference is that the violin has an e string vs the viola which does not. So different fingerings, but exactly the same pitches, yes 👍

hi! would you recommend playing an open A to emphasize the accents like you did or should we keep it closed?
@sheldonpersonviola Жыл бұрын
Good question. Both fingering options are acceptable. I used first position with open A partly because of the acoustic in my studio. I felt that fingering gave me a bigger, bolder performance of the excerpt, and since most of the excerpt is ff or fff, I liked that. But third position works also, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a little more covered sound, and that’s why I chose first position. Good luck! 🍀👍
