Glenn & Liza Teagle Woodturning & Carbide Chisels
Glenn & Liza Teagle Woodturning & Carbide Chisels
I have been a Carpenter and Woodturner for 40 years. I started making my carbide woodturning tools to sell over 15 years ago now.
I have always tried to keep them at an affordable price for everyone and give the best quality I can for that price. Every tool I sell is hand made by me and is only available from me. My aim on this channel is not to turn a project as such, but to demonstrate how to get a good, clean and smooth finish using my carbide tools. I have been asked many times by customers for videos on how to use my carbide tools to achieve this. I want to help the viewers with any questions they may have, when it comes to using carbide woodturning tools. I won't just explain what to do, I will demonstrate it so you can clearly see how to achieve it and see that it can be done safely, easily and I will also point out the danger points to avoid getting those nasty catches that just ruin your day... I will be posting videos to demonstrate what each tool can be useful for.

Hello Glenn and Liza; as always, plenty to learn! Presumably the 'pendant jaws' you showed could be adjusted for scoops?
Hi David. Possibly. Not tried it, as I have made some specifically for scoops. Give it a go. Let us know how you get on.
Love your videos. Thanks for posting. Can I ask what wattage the motor of the small lathe is. Just subbed as well because of this video. Thanks again.
Thank you. Welcome to the channel. 750 watts
What a cracking job glen looks stunning. That little 6mm au is a proper wood hungry but delicate tool. Think that might need be next purchase although i may have to see if you can make it shorter for a midi lathe?? 🏴👍
Just email us when you are ready mate. [email protected]
@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 will do boss Cheers 👍🏴 you no comments are turned off in latest video just working my way through it now
@@michaelwillson6847 all explained in latest vid.
This comes in handy as I watched your swept back roughing gouge video and I wanted to give it a try. I got a high speed steel roughing gouge for a little over $20. The problem is it is too big for my wolverine or Tormek jigs so this will work great. I have my CBN wheels set up to use my Tormek jigs. What I learned here is to put the roughing gouge jig between the tool rest and the grinding wheel. Tormek has the jig on the other side of the tool rest and what I found for me is as I lift the handle to put the gouge to the wheel the spinning wheel pushed the gouge away and I got small facets on the edge. Maybe I was not doing it right but you made a lot of sense the way you did it . Thanks. I will give your method a try.
Nice one Glen looking great definitely gonna try these out wood and i have some resin might play with that. If i ever need it i have a 1000 grit diamond plate will that work for sharpening them or is it better with 600?? 🏴👍🤔
600 is better but 1000 will work.
@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 no worries if you have any left I'll maybe get a 600 off ya when a get next order in soon. 👍🏴
@@michaelwillson6847 sorry mate. Ain't got any left.
@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 no worries will have look in temu for them. 🏴🤔👍

Can you tell me about your Face mask and respirator combination?
I did a video on it. See link kzread.info/dash/bejne/eoanza-CiqjQZKg.html
I wish I could buy your carbides in the states particular California
great videos, thanks
Welcome to the channel. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
I take it that a Spowl gouge is a cross between a spindle and a bowl gouge. It looks like a monster tool running at insane speeds in the hands of a madman. The results are, however, beautiful. For the record, I watch you on a laptop with external Bose speakers and have no problem with your sound.
Hello Glenn mark from New Zealand here, we are tought to have our hand on top of the tools we are using. Do you have a preference as to witch way to go under hand or over hand
It all depends on the cuts you are doing. Basically hold the chisel firm but not over tight and keep your hand off the tool rest. I've mentioned about this on several earlier videos.
😂 "Aren't you clever!" Classic!
My wife loves to turn mushrooms, but has been at a loss in how to bend them, as she's tried boiling water before and it didn't work out. I shared this with her. Good demo.
Glad the video helped.
youre awesom man
How do your tools differ from other carbide tools?
Cool, but you know you are allowed to do talk overs during editing. That way we know what you’re doing instead of having to guess your finger gestures.
Yes I know. Thank you for watching.
Well done Liza. Well Done.
Looks great Glenn, but silent Glenn scares me. I am used to Glenn and Liza, explaining, laughing and having fun.... I always learn from you two!

Enjoy, so much, your tutorials. Can you please display a link or source of your face shield?
Thank you. Here is a link to a video I did on it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eoanza-CiqjQZKg.html
You have the best tutorial on KZread. I have been watching your tool hand more than the cutting edge. Now I need to watch both.
Welcome to the channel. Thank you so much. Means a lot. Really appreciate that. Glad you have found the videos helpful.
True about gouges not coming from new sharp,I found a big difference after I sharpened my new bowl gouge...
Think of it in the same way of a new computer. It comes with factory settings. You need to put your apps/programmes onto it.
question. Would a handheld steamer work for getting the bend in the brim? (blocking)
I can't see why not but I've never tried it. Give it a go. Let us know how you get on.
All I can say is Great wok. I thought I saw Slight wisps of smoke, or steam, from the light when you stopped to check the inside depth. Also, your nerves are steadier than mine. Blew me away how thin you got that. Wow. Love it. One question, might one be able to use a texturing tool on that band of dark without it going Crack?
Really sweet feeder. One thought, with the snow blowing, one can add some clear plastic like from a water bottle, around the middle part to keep some stashed and dry feed. With openings at the bottom of it to let it spill out and for when refilling.
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video.
could cut a bit of spongy stuff with thin 2 sided tape to get that sanding bit so your fingers were not to close to that spinning shadow and still have some small pressure.
Thanks for watching.
Love the fenial, what Liza wants Liza gets says it all.😊
Hahaha your lid sounds exactly like mine. Really adds to the immersion 😂
Thanks for the link I`ll be wanting a parting tool.
Great video. I learned alot. Thank you.

Thank you so much for showing uses how to make the sharing jig i got a lot out of it i me a new bee to wood turning.
Hi Nathan. Welcome to the channel. Thank you for watching. Glad you found it helpful. Lots more tips across the videos posted. Happy turning.
Just wondering what speed you normally turn at it look like at one point 2500 rpm
I turn at the fastest speed I can safely turn at. I don't like to give speeds out, you have to turn to your ability. There are no set speeds. Every piece of wood is different. Just take care and turn safely.
Awesome Glenn thank you for a great video
Thank you Joe.
Well done Glen, another good demo, it’s not quite as easy as you made it look though. But definitely worth watching . Thanks
Thanks Neil. Glad you enjoyed it.
Every time you say 1 more cut the jeopardy intensified, then it was over and I took a breath.
I love doing these cowboy hats and trying to get them as thin as possible. It needs to be thin, especially the rim, so it will bend. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great idea. I went out and looked at my Laguna 18/36 lathe and the controls were on the spindle handle side like yours. I have not messed with it but guessing it is the same action as yours. I was putting my chuck on the spindle and it has holes and numbers that I really gave no mind too. They are both Vicmarc chucks the VM100 and VM120. Paying more attention there are square holes by the Allen key hole all the way around. Just need to build the arm with maybe a screw to hit the hole. You are right easier to see than having to look on the back side of the lathe every time. Thanks for the idea.
Glad it helped Bruce. Vicmarc is not that easy to get hold of here, only certain vendors have them and I refuse to pay out that much for a chuck.
Oh I see how you get the 15mm. Divide 360 by 24 and it comes out 15. Shhh don’t tell anyone but I am using metric more for measuring in my shop.
I wish I had found your channel a long time ago; so informative, so many tips... brilliant. Thank you.

Top notch wood turning using carbide. It is a shame you don't ship your tools out of the U.K. I have learned a lot by watching your videos!
Thank you Richard. Welcome to the channel. Yes, it is a shame. The US customs and Postal service are the issue. Returning stuff back with no explanation. Can't take a chance these days.
Love it I am going to try making them thank you Glenn
Yes, give it a go. Let us know how you get on.
Great video Glenn and Liza
Glad you liked it Joe. Thanks for watching.
