    I see a problem with the male white ribbon guppies. They both have the ribbon finned gonopodium. They won’t be able to fertilize the females. Hopefully the females are already “hit” from the seller’s tank. You might want to hit up the seller for a working/regular finned male from the same stock. If not, maybe consider using the full gold males. They’re close enough in color to make it work. 🍻

  • @HobbyTimee

    my thoughts exactly! I am going to give it a few weeks to see if the females show pregnancy signs, if not, Ill likely try to acquire some more white ribbon males to keep the line pure, last case scenario, ill mix them with full golds.

    Hi I justed subscribed to your channel. And I have a 10 gallon tank. I get my fish from our local petstore but if buying online is better , what website do you use?

  • @HobbyTimee
    @HobbyTimeeАй бұрын

    big box stores like petsmart/petco are okay when you're first getting into the hobby as they're the cheaper option, however, they don't take care of their fish as well as a breeder or a vendor that specializes in fish, because they're just an employee hired and paid minimum wage. also because these big box stores don't treat their fish with the highest level of care, they're very prone to disease and poor genetics. I feel they're both fine for brand new folks in terms of price, but sometimes a bad experience as when the fish die, people sometimes give up. Buying through local fish stores or some online vendors typically yields you with a better quality fish, but they also come at a higher price (shipping etc.) When you buy online you want to make sure their DAO (Dead on Arrival) is adequate. most places will have a 100% live arrival guarantee, and if they don't arrive alive, or die within 12-72 hours of being in your tank, they offer a full refund excluding shipping, but each vendor is different and they'll have this DAO policy on their site. I am at the mercy of needing to go through online vendors versus local fish stores since I am pretty geographically isolated in Alaska, so I have bought from the following vendors: -Aqua Huna -Dan's Fish -Coast Gem USA -Aquarium Co-op -Modern Aquarium -Some Amazon vendors (for plants/shrimp/snails) -There a ton more online vendors, but i havn't purchased from them yet. Hope this info helps! If you have questions, just let me know!

    I don't know oh well babies would travel if shipped, so your best bet is to start doing some research on local axolotl breeders. I didn't think there were any in my area and come to find out there's a breeder within a few miles from my and another business the next town over that imports them. They seem to be everywhere if you dig in a bit!

    Baby axolotls are very delicate and difficult to take care of. I would recommend going for a juvenile or adult axolotl, though all axolotls do require high maintenance and knowledgeable care. Axolotls should only be bought from reputable breeders, not pet stores. Ask yourself/check these things when looking at breeders: -Are these stock photos/photoshopped images of axolotls? Do these show images of specific axolotls, or is it just something like 'leucistic axolotl buying options include 5-6 inch male, 7-8 female, 4-5 female, etc' with stock photos? -Check what people are saying about the breeder across multiple platforms -Check the health of the axolotls in the photos: are they a proper weight? do they have mutations such as dwarfism or small toes? do they have visible illnesses such as fungus or wounds? -Can the breeder tell you the lineage of the axolotl 3-5 generations back? -Does the website have axolotl information that is widely accepted as true? -Are they being clickbait-y, saying things like 'SUPER RARE', severely overpricing, or advertising an axolotl as a morph/color that does not exist? -Are the axolotls being sold over 2 inches long? Make sure you have done all necessary research about medical care, tank sizing, parameters, temperature, dangerous substances, hazards, and so much more. Your tank needs to be 29 U.S. gallons at bare minimum with 40+ gallons being preferred. The tank needs to have been cycled. Cycling sets up the nitrogen cycle of beneficial bacteria that help to break down ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites. Cycling takes several weeks to a few months. Temperatures need to be between 60-66 F. Over 70 F is dangerous and over 75 F is deadly. Axolotl tank set ups are expensive, and I would not recommend them as a beginner pet unless the person has done tons of research and is fully prepared for the expenses and care.

    I recently adopted an Oscar and two Pleco's from a friend. It threw me into the fish scene fast! They gave me a mostly bare 75gal tank, so I have been trying to deal with an Oscar at nearly 10in with two Pleco's that are currently 4ish in but growing. They were fine when smaller, hiding behind filters, but it is harder for them to hide from the VERY territorial, grumpy and hungry Oscar once they got bigger. So, I just placed drift pieces in the tank after letting them soak in a tub for weeks periodically flushing the tub to remove the tannins. I replaced the above filters with a canister filter that could handle that size of a tank. I staged it with the bio from the other filters. And the idea was to have the canister work as a medium so the tank could change a bit as the Pleco's mature, without causing too much stress.

  • @HobbyTimee
    @HobbyTimee2 ай бұрын

    pretty sound solution, Oscars are definitely a hard one to keep with other tank mates, especially smaller things as the Oscars will indeed bully anything that is smaller then them. Do you know if those pleco's are common plecos? or bristlenoses? common pleco's will keep growing and growing, can get to almost 2 feet in length, which for a large tank like a 75gal, that's not so bad assuming you want larger fish. bristlenose only get to about 5-8inches max depending on species, perfect little cleaners for any nano tank! These Blue Phantoms are on the larger end of the bristlenose family (although they do not grow bristles) and tend to max out at about 7-8 inches, but they are incredibly slow-growing and will take years to achieve that length!

I will be doing some videos shortly on rebuilding my fish room from the ground up, and the Blue Phantoms are definitely on my to own list! There are very few reported cases of breeding in captivity, but from what I have gathered, Blue and Green phantoms grow very slowly, they are not capable of breeding until at least 3 years or roughly 4.5inches long. so the ones I had were still far from breeding capable.. but one day, I do want to breed the Blue Phantoms!

    I would suggest not drip acclimating... There's no need and it could potentially hurt the fish. Plus, you combined the bags... The bags were absolutely different ph levels. So drip acclimating the way you did way 100% pointless. Enjoy the fish tho. I love my phantoms too. God bless

  • @HobbyTimee
    @HobbyTimee Жыл бұрын

    I am interested in hearing more, could you elaborate? why is it potentially harmful to the fish to slowly introduce them to the new tank water? I also combined the bags because the seller had them in the same tank/water before, so the only thing that would have changed is any waste produced in the water during transit, minimal water differences between the 2 as they were shipped and received in 24hrs.

  • @jimfiore4671
    @jimfiore4671 Жыл бұрын

    @@HobbyTimee So when fish are in a bag for an extended length of time they build up ammonia. Now when the bag is air tight this ammonia isn't nearly as toxic as the ammonia it forms as soon as you let fresh air into the bag. So personally I always float the bag for an hour or 2, unopened, with the light off. That way they calm down and I don't add stress to them. Then I make sure I have everything already set up and ready to go so when I do open the bag they are out of the bag asap. I dump them over a bucket and into my net and put them in the tank. So doing it the way you did it could give them ammonia burn. When the air and water inside the bag hit fresh air it shoots the ph up and spikes the ammonia in the bagged water to very high levels. I'm not entirely sure how it works, that's just what happens. And as far as mixing the 2 bags of water. So ph in your aquarium is forever changing. It never stays at any level. It goes up and down all day every day. So the ph in the bags, even if they came out of the same tank, does the same. 1 fish could go to the bathroom more than another, 1 could breath or be stressed more than another. So the ph being the same in the 2 seperate bags is almost impossible. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions I'm happy to let you know what I know. My comment wasn't meant to be anything other than informative. It looks and sounds like you care about your fish. So I hope you didn't think I was just being an A hole. God bless

  • @HobbyTimee
    @HobbyTimee Жыл бұрын

    @@jimfiore4671 Didn't think you were being an A-hole :) very useful information, I know a lot about the ammonia in the bag, ph levels differing opening the bag causes a spike etc. but I've always heard drip acclimation is usually the better option for plecos, as well as some other aquatic species, while some can just be dropped right into the tank after floating for a while. I've always drip acclimated my fish and havn't lost any during the first few days in a new tank unless they had obvious issues. nor have any received visual signs of ammonia burn, since you're diluting the bagged water immediately. I've always chosen this method as a way to introduce them to your tanks parameters slowly, as if they were used to being in like.. 60ppm nitrate water, then just get thrown into 10ppm, that could cause a shock. (might be a bad example, but same could go for ph/temp/ammonia/you name it. I also choose this method cause the fish, (especially pleco's) produce alot of waste in the bag water, so drip acclimating slowly gets them used to lower ammonia levels before throwing them right into a clean tank :) theres several ways of doing it, all are great, and im sure all have their downfalls too, guess its personal preferrence. One thing I am going to change in my next unboxing video, is im not going to dump them out into a net, ill likely pick them up by hand and place them in the tank, as I have found that pouring pleco's into a net could damage the fins, unlike your typical fish.

  • @jimfiore4671
    @jimfiore4671 Жыл бұрын

    @@HobbyTimee using your hands for most fish is usually a better way to do it. Most people don't want to pick fish up, so I don't ever suggest it. I guess a good example would be my clown loaches. I hand placed them in the tank and all 3 stabbed my hands with their head eye bone things lol. But before I acclimated the way I do now, I did drip acclimation and it had always been more stressful for me and the fish. I always lost fish just days after. But since I've stopped dripping, I have yet too loose a fish. So I can't say it's definitely due to dripping but it's the only thing I know I changed. So I'm guessing it's that.
