    Is it easy to set up these two together Is it just midi mapping?

  • @GauthierM
    @GauthierM5 ай бұрын

    Push is natively scripted for Live, meaning there is no mapping to do (you can scroll from one tab or device to another, parameters will change in real time). FaderFox is like any general MIDI gear: you map it by going in Ctrl+M menu, click a parameter in Live, touch the corresponding knob/fader/switch on your device, and save the project as a template. Then you have mixer controls (EQ, VCFs, FXs) per channel on the FaderFox, and macros assigned on Push for which a screen becomes handy.

    Hello, The Cunsa is versatile and can be an all in one filter for different purposes: 4-in-1 single source saturation/filtering, two dual filters, four separated voices filtering, quad VCO by making the filter self oscillate, ping the four filters with rhythmic triggers and output different perc tones… it can be clean or dirty by having fine control over its input drive, character/resonance parameters and output drive. Overall it can replace many filters by being surely able to do what you would expect from a complex VCF. It still doesn’t replace dirtier filters if you like more industrial or hardcore sounds. Personally I always liked the clean design from Frap tools so I will keep it for a while in my system. Hope that was somehow helpful to you. KR Gauthier

    1. Left rack: A-100LC9V from Doepfer, mostly for VCOs 2. Right rack: A-100LC9V from Doepfer, mostly for modulation & interaction with DAW (16x I/Os via ADAT) 3. Top rack: A-100LMS9V from Doepfer, a monster case for additional modules (I rarely show on youtube, but you can see it on my vertical instagram videos), filled with 2nd intention & large modules I'm not powering when starting a patch, like the Fumana or Panharmonium 4. Bottom rack: Eurorack Go from Behringer, mostly for sequencers and controllers. The signal path goes initially from left to right, then modulating from bottom to the top. I tried most popular sequencers and kept the René Mk2 for the tactile interaction, the Hermod+ for precise sequences and just added a generative and simple sequencer, the Next Tuesday from TINRS. I also love step sequencers with faders for both pitch & modulation like the Metropolix, but replaced it with a Step 8, Muxlicer & Step Fader Mk2. Most important feature for a sequencer IMO is non-destructive randomization, meaning you can alter the sequence when progressing through the track, and go back to the initial sequence when reaching the outro.

    Hi, I'm loving your videos and music jams. I got into modular about a year ago. It's fascinating. I have 3 eurorack go cases and its set me back about $8,000. I'm curious to know how long have you been into modular, when did you start?

  • @GauthierM
    @GauthierM7 ай бұрын

    Hi Michael, thanks for the kind words. I'm into DAW/desktop synths since 15 years, but I dived into modular only when Covid happened (my 1st video is dated may 21st 2020), which also gave me the time to finally create a youtube channel and learn premiere pro. I planned about 3k but rapidly expanded to try new/different options, as long as I can. It went up to 1568 HPs in 6x racks somewhere in early 2022, but it isn't growing for 1,5 year now and should slowly be reduced to streamline my setup and focus on individual stem printing rather than multi track recording.

    I take it the morphagene part was added in later, because as soon as you showed it on screen, the next cut shoes morphagene isnt plugged in. 😅 Nice vibes

  • @GauthierM
    @GauthierM10 ай бұрын

    Hello, correct: I used Morphagene as another take to randomly resample/transform my loops into glitches. It extends an initial idea by creating small details and new textures. I usually use it (also many other samplers) only after having already a few other voices ongoing. Otherwise, results are a bit too wild and somehow more difficult to use consistenly in a track. Cheers

  • @borisborisov500
    @borisborisov50010 ай бұрын

    @@GauthierM Gotcha. If you're interested, a reliable way I have found to use morphagene live in a techno mix is to NOT have it clocked. Use a sequencer to trigger the sample rhythmically. Use the "gene size" knob as if it is a decay/release envelope on the sound. Keep the "decay" fast so only small parts of the sound get through, and then use the position knob to find nice parts in the sample. Then as you jam, you can open and close the "decay" to let more of the sound through, when it makes sense. I do more things with it in a live setting, but this is the basis for being able to jam any sample into a mix without fear of it being too messy or unpredictable. It took me a while to find a workflow I could confidently jam with in a live setting on that module. Once I found it, it opened up a load of possibilities.

    @@GauthierM I found this video while searching for the CSL. I am thinking about buying one. As a techno guy, would you recommend the CSL? Has it remained in your case?

  • @GauthierM
    @GauthierM10 ай бұрын

    @@borisborisov500 I love the sound of Instruo, especially the FM on the CSL is quite warm and musical. Kept it for a long time, but I sold it recently to move to new VCOs (only when I knew I would not add another rack). It is an inspiring module like most of Instruo for sure. It makes you feel like going back to it and explore its I/Os, though for others, the panel can also be confusing in the beginning. I would also point out that Instruo VCOs are quite "musical" by nature (saich, csl, troika...) meaning you'll get quite a clean sound out of them, that is best suited for melodic techno. For harsher/industrial techno (the one that shouldn't focus on actual melodies), I would not add a CSL but aim at digital ones like Three body, Polygogo or a Shapeshifter.

    Sounds great. What are you controlling with the faderfox and how do you like it?

  • @GauthierM
    @GauthierM Жыл бұрын

    The MX12 left third controls four dry voices from the modular (faders assigned to volume, knobs are assigned to non-resonant HPF/LPF). The middle and right third (the 8 other channels) control two parallel FXs (100% wet) the same way for each voices. It is built as an instrument rack in Ableton containing three parallel chains (a dry and two wet). The PC12 controls 4x 6 inserts FXs placed before the MX12 controls. e.g. a saturator, a dynamic processor and complex filter VSTs etc that will improve the signal before MX12 distributes it to the pedals. It is also configured on my empty template to send these four channels to VSTs sends effects: 2 delays and 2 reverbs by default, but it could be Guitar Rig or Infiltrator complex FXs that my pedals do not cover. On the upper right side (above the 4x4 sends), I also put a group HPF/LPF to control all channels at once (these ones are resonant, for intros & outros filter sweeps). Lastly, the 4x6 knobs on the left third of the PC12 are currently not assigned, but I have in mind to use them for sequencing purpose, to send MIDI events (melodies or LFOs) to the modular.

    The faderfoxes are great man. I have 2 UC4s and an EC4. Over time the endless encoders have gotten a bit jumpy. Only complaint. I don't think you'll have that problem with the standard faders and knobs. It has made DAW integration much more tactile, and opened access to some parameters on Elektron boxes that would require a page change. Much more immediate for performance. Your sound is the shit man. I have worked to get my stuff closer to your quality...still workin. Thanks

    This was great! Thanks for posting it. What are you using for hi hats? Got a tips for processing them?

  • @GauthierM
    @GauthierM Жыл бұрын

    Hello, offbeat hats are done with simple samples, whereas 16th hats are played with the Ableton « Drum synth » device. I put clips where 16th hats should play, and automated the decay. For processing hats I mainly use « drum buss » for saturation and « erosion » which gives nice results on hats. Then there is usually a 24dB HPF around 800Hz to clean mid frequencies.
