Honest Fiction

Hi! I'm Jess

I am a Rutgers graduate who spends the majority of my time reading when I'm not busy whooping my husband in board games. I'm a coffee addict who prefers to drink pumpkin spice iced coffee all year round, no matter the temperature. Although I’ve always been an avid reader, my love of reading really started in college when I read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith.

My favourite reads last month were When the Moon Hatched and Magnolia Parks: The Long Way Home. It wasn't the greatest reading month for me either though. I feel like there has just been too much going on workwise to properly let go and sink into another world. Fingers crossed July will be awesome. 😊

the singing didnt bother me but the giggles were TERRIBLE at higher speed. i did slow it down to 1.5 speed and it was fine then.

Maybe that's why the laughs didn't bother me. I was listening at 1.5. I still thought they were noticeable and a bit odd, but so too is Lark. 😅

Oh my goodness, I completely agree with the audio of Leather and Lark! The laughing was horrible. I think I would have liked the book better if I had read it physically. I listened to it at about 1.5 speed and the laughter was still super weird. I’m just glad I’m not the only one that thought it was odd.

I loved A Court This Cruel and Lovely (I rated the first one 4 stars), but I also listened to the entire series, and the narration, particularly the female, was fantastic. Fun fact, the female narrator recommended this series to her partner, who normally doesn't read romantasy, and they loved it also. That's neither here nor there I just thought it was a fun fact to share lol.

A Court This Cruel and Lovely I had to DNF. The pacing wasn't great for me, didn't connect to the characters. Felt it was rushed in some parts and slow in others.

Thanks for your videos! I read the Drowned Empire series by Frankie Mallis. While it can sometimes get a bit repetitive with the characters internal monologues, overall, I thought it was fun and look forward to the final book coming out. I really liked Ryhan, the male lead. Very slow burn.

Similar thoughts on How Does It Feel & the sequel. If you enjoyed the unhinged villain, try reading Kathryn Ann Kingsley's the Unseelie Prince. 4 book series. Better pacing, world building and character development.

You should do a reread, rewrite, and burn on completed series. Sometimes the second book isn’t that great but if you do this on a completed series, it gives us all an idea of what to push through.

But I desperately want to dip my toe into fantasy , I have watched so many series that involve fantasy and I have always absolutely loved it , but I need to start with something pretty easy , what would you suggest for someone’s first fantasy read , with some romance in it 😊😊 thank you , Jennie❤

You could have tandem read tod and eos, that way it's not just him 😅 I think people who love a Court of Silver Flames love tod, both having healing and redemption and stuff. I loved both these and you hated them both 😂 The heart vibes with what the heart vibes with.
