Haha True! I suppose you could always start indoors. Garlic, turmeric and ginger don’t mind growing in large pots and potatoes are fun to grow in bags (hessian sacks).

I wouldn't buy anything from Temu. I distrust chinese made goods, they're taking jobs from the western world, they produce poor quality goods taking your $ & my £ plus they're producing more CO2 than is good for everyone.

I’d be so worried about it breaking and hurting my baby chickens lol or not opening, and you go off to work expecting it’s opened and it hasn’t. And then the chickens are stuck in there all day. Temu stuff has never worked as intended for me, but maybe it will for you

Fair. The one I’ve used before from Omegle was $300 and included a door sensor so it wouldn’t hurt them as well as a timer function. My chooks have their water supply inside so I’m not too worried about them being stuck in all day.

Another banger vid! Question would it be possible to use Oaties letterbox contents ( recycled paper litter, poop and wee) in a compost pile? Would it be considered brown or green,both or neither don't use?

Ooh rabbit poop - perfect compost material. I’d call that 50/50. Actually maybe that’s a bit green, definitely balance it with some straw or leaf litter if you can. And be sure to keep lots of air in it so it doesn’t turn anaerobic

Been working on my compost pile at home as I attempt a food forestin the backyard in melb. I did import a delivery of coffee grounds and coffee husks which has helped me grow my piles into the required size. and my pile did stall recently but i added fresh material and it is back roaring. I check the temperature with my meat thermometer. I learnt alot from the book Teaming With Microbes Nice to see some Australian homestead content, wishing you guys luck.

That’s awesome. Yeah we used to run a cafe. Coffee grinds are the bomb! A proper compost thermometer is on my Wishlist- I’ve used them before they’re worth the investment. Never thought to use my meat thermometer - dunno if I want to put my fancy Bluetooth one in there though 🤣. Thanks for the encouragement! Good luck with the food Forrest.

Attach 2 ft to 3 ft of wire mesh to the bottom of chicken coop laid out flat on the ground. Add mulch over the wire and it will stop animals from digging.

Only issue I’ve found with that method is the mesh rusts over time and the mulch is difficult to change out. We’ll upgrade with some timber at the base of the frame to make it sturdier, but in my experience the best way to avoid digging from foxes etc is to move the coop at least 1-2x / week.

This is only true for indeterminate potatoes. Determinate potatoes don't need to be covered as they grow.

This is my first year, trying sweet potatoes and regular potatoes and just found out that regular potatoes can be determined or indeterminate, I did find out that even though determinate it’s still good for the plant to heal them a little bit so that if there is a few potatoes that make it up top, they don’t turn green 😅 😩 A couple weeks ago I thought it was as easiest though when a potato and a grow bag lol now I’m finding out so much more

You need a binder. Since it's normally peat and that is no longer allowed in the EU free blocking is hard. Rest of the world will probably be fine until peat gets banned there to.

I find they work just fine without. I’ve also used coco coir. But honestly, just a good grade potting mix as a base and they hold together fine.

I've used it all. Old yoghurt cups, egg cartons, toilet rolls... ...then when transplant time comes, it's ice cream tubs, yoghurt tubs, candy floss tubs etc. Their final homes are always fabric pots though

We bought 8 years ago when the market was better. And it’s totally unimproved land with no utilities. Not sure what country you’re in for comparison, but to give you an idea.. Total setup costs so far (Incl. land) are probably equivalent to a small 3 bedroom house, in a little town, 2.5 hours from a major metropolitan city. 😁
