    I recognize that view. Looks like you're riding a VStar 1300, I bought a leftover 2007 Vstar 1300 in 2009 and ran that bike for 12 years. Great bike, never let me down! I traded it towards my forever bike, a 2019 Indian Springfield. Yamaha makes some good bikes that are well worth it used if you're a new rider with limited funds.

    Dang. Some of the comments here are rough. You did fine. Continue to practice and evolve your braking skills. We aren't born MotoGP riders, so like anything in life worth doing, it is a developed skill. I am glad to see you on two wheels and safe to ride another day. One item to keep in mind at an intersection like that - practice learning to look at the car's front tire. They move 'sooner' than the car and can give you a heads up someone is about to pull out in front of you like that.

  • @200degrees

    Glad you uploaded it, I certainly had my close calls both learning and experienced. My thought has always been: react to save myself, horn later. If I have time to think about the horn when I am still in danger, I could have been focusing on evasion more! But you didn't get tunnel vision, you evaded the crash, you were conscious of what you were doing so good job there! Like you said in a different comment you're working on braking and getting more comfortable which is great. I have so little belief the horn actually helps it took me months before I realized my bikes horn had fallen off, had to scroll back through pictures to see when it left haha Stay safe!

    Dude. Learn how to threshold brake and your reaction time was comparable to a sloth. Stay off two wheels until you get better defensive riding skills.

  • @RettTheRegret
    @RettTheRegret2 ай бұрын

    I don’t think my reaction time is the issue, because I saw them from the time they came out from behind the bridge. I would say it is my braking skills that was more the issue and I could have stayed behind them but in the moment I tried to get my point across to them by going around them and waving my hand, which probably didn’t do any good. Thanks for your input… and the comparison. Have a good one.

    @@davidj4662 LEARN HOW TO THRESHOLD BRAKE!!!!

  • @Zero_Phux_Given
    @Zero_Phux_Given2 ай бұрын

    Hey Bud, don't learn the hard way, I was afraid of the front brake too and if you're not comfortable with it you're severely increasing your chances of crashing into something. Start at 5mph and gently squeeze your front brake, then 10mph, 20mph, etc. You'll quickly learn you can go from 100+ to 65mph in a couple seconds without any issue. Good idea to practice in a parking lot or when you're on an empty road and you make sure no one is behind you. Rear brake is great for low-speed, front brake is great for high-speed. Also, may wanna look at the FortNine video "Out-braking the ABS Myth." Lastly, not sure if you have riding boots, if you do, cool, if not - may want something to protect your ankles, breaking a bone and learning to walk again isn't fun. Ride safe and have fun brotha! 🏍💨

    @Zero_Phux_Given Thanks for the advice and I will definitely be practicing for the summer riding coming up. Braking is one of the last skills I really need to work on, everything else is pretty good. The main reason I didn’t use the front brake as much in the video was because of the salt and gravel from the snow plows, which I now know I can still use my front brake even with that on the road. Again thanks for the advice and ride save.

    @@RettTheRegret Good job even posting your riding, not everyone is open to constructive criticism. A lot of people put off practice and it can be as simple as practicing one thing for 5 mins before or after each ride. Next time you're out it you just get comfortable using that front brake I'm sure you're gonna be a lot safer. Again, good on ya for posting, would be nice to see future videos showing how you're progressing. 🏍💨

  • @roadracingrelics
    @roadracingrelics2 ай бұрын

    Since you can't see what the right hand is doing why do you say that? The rider avoids a collision and gets a point across to the car driver by passing on the shoulder, may be making it look like he had no choice but to do that.

  • @KapitanPisoar1
    @KapitanPisoar12 ай бұрын

    @@roadracingrelics If he had used the front brake he would not be worried about locking up the rear. Also if he knew how to use the rear, he would not have to be worried about locking it up in such a slow speed.

    Didn't want to lock up the rear brake? That's why motorcycles come equipped with front brakes, you know, where all your braking power is. Terrible riding. You’re just reinforcing the stereotype. Consider selling the bike because you’re not a good biker. You’re actually a bit of a danger to yourself. 4 wheels is probably more your speed.

  • @RettTheRegret
    @RettTheRegret2 ай бұрын

    I get what your saying, but I’m a newer rider and there is salt and gravel on the roads still where I live and I wasn’t sure if that would make it easier to loose traction or not. I’ll keep practicing progressive braking from now on. Have a good day man.

    I did this and my ac control stopped working right after. What would cause this? Is any electrical signal being sent from this wire to the head unit? I figured since it was a ground wire that it would have no electrical signal.

    @@Lorangebeatrice It’s been awhile since I did it now… but I’m pretty sure I hooked the backup camera to a constant power-source, so it can be on without the car being in reverse. After I hooked it up the the constant power I also connected the head unit to the reverse signal wire, that way the head unit knows when to automatically turn on the camera display for reverse. Hopefully this helps and if not let me know what is confusing so I can go into more detail.

    @@RettTheRegret You're correct, I spliced my hot wire into the main power wire using solder and heat-shrink for the radio and the negative I grounded to the frame. Then the "Reverse in" wire(should be purple with a white strip and be labeled it also will be a very long wire unless they trimmed it where you go it installed) has to be connected to the positive power source that turns on when you engage reverse...aka your reverse lights will work fine...I used a fuse tap from autozone to install mine to the fuse for my reverse lights...however if your car comes with a back up camera it might be easier for you or if its already installed and working only in reverse....then you will just have to connect the camera positive wire to the radios positive so it receives power constantly when the radio is turned on not just when the car is in reverse....sometimes people will install the cameras positive wire and the radios "Reverse in" wire to the same power source for reverse (reverse lights) that is what will cause it to be only on when in reverse.....hope all that made sense I feel like I mansplained a bit...
