Old School Millennial

Old School Millennial

If you love the outdoors, learning about and using tools and machines of all kinds, and the idea of self-sufficiency, this is the place for you! From tractors and chainsaws to classic cars and motorcycles, we’ve got it here! In 2019, my wife and I moved our family from the suburbs to the country. Two of the main reasons we moved were:
1) To have room for my tools and machines (of course!) and
2) to learn to cultivate the land and start a modern homestead.

Old School Millennial is the place where I share my love for and knowledge about tools and machines, and of course, put them to use. Everything you find here is guaranteed to be family friendly, so don't hesitate to let your little ones watch, too.

If this sounds like the place for you, hit that subscribe button!

I believe in my owners manual it states that it is not a primer bulb but rather referred to as a air purge for the fuel line and carburetor. I was told at the local husqvarna shop that it does not directly squirt fuel into the cylinder like a traditional primer bulb would and that all you need to do is push it until you feel/hear/see that the bulb is full of fuel like this gentleman does in the video.

I absolutely loved, how both saws harmonized with each other in the cut! Music to my ears.

This is why I bought the 550 over the 261. My mind was made up on buying another Stihl, and once I started doing my homework on the Husqvarna and watching comparison videos, the choice was clear, and I have not been disappointed. Husqvarna 550xp MkII all the way 💯

They tried to push a 20" 050 gauge bar and chain on me when I bought my ms261cm. I had them change it to an 18" 063 gauge. It seems as if Stihl is really pushing the 050 guage bars on all their 325 pitch saws these days. What are your thoughts and preferences on this, if any?

On mid saws I run "18 across the board. The 18 gets the most out of the 261/550. I have 24 on the 461 and multiple bars for the big boy.

I don't know how many hours I have on saws. I believe the 261 is one of the finest chainsaws ever Made hands down. I have two Infact. The 550 is better, at first I didn't like it, but by hour 8 day 1 of cutting I was only using it for the most part. By the end of my first week I was in love. I threw an "18 bar on it and sthil full chisele chain on. It is by far and away the best mid saw on sale at this moment. I am a sthil guy 100%, there's an 88 hanging up next to me on the wall as I write this. Husky big saws are garbage, but this 550 it's insane. It literally makes going to work easier.

Yeah I’ve not seen many people who use a green chain on a 261 in fact when I purchased mine it didn’t even come with a green chain, it was set up with the yellow off the shelf. Also had a 20” bar as well.

I have the ms 180c. Its great for lllimbs and small trees. Ive tried cutting small or decent aize stumps and can not get it to cut through that. So i suppose i need a bigger saw for that.

Good content; however the presentation is horrible with you saying "uh" once or twice per sentence. This makes it unlistenable to me after a few minutes which is a shame because like I said you have good content. A good way to get rid of your uhs and uhms is to talk in front of someone, and they have permission to raise their hand every time you do it. I'm not saying this to be mean, but to give you some honest feedback so that you can up your game and be more successful. Just go back and listen to this video and you will see what I mean.

I have stihl ms 261 non-mtronic WhenI try to put on the chain and the side cover, It is a bit difficult for me to turn the nuts. Does it mean that the threads in the nuts of the side cover are worn out or the threads on the bar stud is worn out? What can I do if either of those is worn out. Can I use it in this way because I can turn it with a spanner but can’t turn it by hand?

Hey Glenn, glad to hear your buddy randy is ok! I, myself always wear chaps gloves boots and eyewear when bucking/cutting firewood or felling. They’re definitely must have items in the field. I also always carry a good first aid kit. I had an accident once where i split open my left thumb pretty good using my Corona pruning hand saw limbing some small branches at my property up in the mountains. there’s no cell service up there and the nearest hospital is over 2 hours away, so taking proper precautions is an absolute must. Thank god I had the first aid kit. Changing the topic, wouldn’t the ms170 you got be a better choice in regards about overall fatigue than the 261 for small wood?

Kids changed from 261 to 550 once they heard you were running an xcut chain. Once its is sharpened it loses a bit of cutting performance. 550 is a beast

They are light but a pound is a lot in comparison I don't care if they are the same class, a closer weight comparison is the 362. Difference being half a pound, with a huge advantage in bars choice. This option comes at a big $$ increase though. Also are you running an xcut chain on the husky, you failed to mention the shorter bar. Bar length is huge, I wanted one of these for liming until I realized such short bars would eliminate any weight advantage The 550 is a beast at its price point, nothing appears to touch it.

Hydraulic control valve rods bent, seal inside tore, 1100 hours. On the unit. Our bobcats seem to be more heavy duty and a lot quieter in the cab. For $8-$10k more I think the quality of the bobcat is justified for the price.

Has anyone seen a video from anyone who has bought this tool. All the videos I’ve seen are from people who have been sent this tool. Would like to see and hear from someone who paid for it and how it has worked for them. Not saying his evaluation isn’t accurate and he did what the company asked him to try it out and say how it worked for him. Just wondering?
