A real sleeper of a guitar, so many missed on this one. Despite it being manufactured during the Norlin era, they made some really great guitars ❤

Martin, it was a long time ago, but most likely those strings were light gauge (.012 on the first string).

I replaced the Takameni with a Baden around the time I posted this video. It's an excellent guitar but I wish I had just gotten a Taylor at the time. Now I'm lusting after an Orangewood. Never satisfied, right?

shame you sold this. i have an 89 en30c. I put a 12inch radius on the neck, re-fretted it with medium jumbo frets, built new bone saddles and nuts. Plays like a dream. Sounds like a dream too. You can hear a lot of fret buzz in this video, perhaps the truss wasn’t set right or the saddles weren’t high enough.
@mcouzijn3 жыл бұрын
What guitar do you use for fingerstyle today, David? I bought this EN-30c ten years ago and had it transported to The Netherlands (maybe I bought the guitar from you, maybe from someone else, I forgot) and still love it. Its sound is not paramount, but it plays like a beast and is a very reliable 'work horse'.
@ScreamingReel5004 жыл бұрын
They don't sell/cant sell these no more...as a classical they are the worst of the worst. But if you have one put acoustic guitar string super light gauge on it and see, it can have the sweetest sound ever.
@jaydenschmidt33354 жыл бұрын
This is a horrible guitar trust me , I wouldn’t recommend buying . It can’t hold a tune , the neck will be bent , acoustics are completely off and the nylon strings are awful . It’s about worth $10

JFYI The Gibson Nighthawk is a solid body as well.. I have a Blueshawk & Nighthawk & have often thought of picking one of "The Hawk"s up if the price was right.. These were the bottom dollar guitars of the hawk Line, The tuners use press in bushings instead of the thread in style of Klusons, No binding on body or neck & wraparound bridge.. Both pickups were 496R Rhythm pickups which are ceramic high output neck humbuckers, I assume that when Gibson tried hotter bridge pickups it sounded too bright & they used a neck pickup & it worked.. My 94 M-III Les Paul, See Avatar, has these pickups in it's neck but a 500T in the bridge + an NSX middle Nighthawk pickup in the middle position factory.. The hawks are 25 1/2" scale & have a very fenderish feel to them There's a Fruit of the Loom model at GC currently for $499 that was signed by the CDB www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Gibson/The-Hawk-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc About $200 more than I would wanna pay.. If anyone is looking at buying one of these give it a try if the price is right, A very underrated guitar IMO..

Seeing as you posted your comment 8 months ago you may have already bought one of these. If you haven't let me tell you that Gretsch does not make a case for this model. However, the G5810 fits like a glove in the case for the G6138. I bought my guitar and case online from Chicago Music Exchange and they even did a setup for me before shipping it (I knew it would have pretty low action from the factory and I prefer higher action more like an acoustic).
@MisterJWJ7111 жыл бұрын
I noticed the lack of binding myself. I didn't notice the knobs until reading your post. It is hard to tell for sure but, the guitar in the video doesn't appear to have the same strap buttons as the Gretsch G5810 either. Otherwise it looks just like the one I have.
