    Hi I tried to color honeycomb but I failed. I used pomegrenate flower leaf but it did not work. I want an edible and red honeycomb lipbalm. How can I do that? And thanks for the video ❤

  • @SagerFamilyFarm
    @SagerFamilyFarm17 күн бұрын

    You could try some of the colorants here: www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/shop-by-craft/lip-balm-supplies/colorants.aspx I haven't used them before, but I use many of the other ingredients from this Wholesale Supplies Plus. They've got some food-based/edible colorants you could try (out at least could give you some ideas). In general, you want to stay away from anything water based, as it will not incorporate well with the oils in lip balm. Powders and oils will work best. Good luck!

    Hi! How long does it take the caterpillar to go from hanging in the J shape to molting/creating chrysalis? We have a little guy that's been "hanging" for a couple hours, and we are wondering if he is okay.

  • @SagerFamilyFarm
    @SagerFamilyFarm2 ай бұрын

    It usually takes about 24 hours for them to shed their final skin and reveal the chrysalis. If your caterpillar seems to "give up" and hangs straight after a day or two, that's when something has gone wrong. For me, this mostly happens if I raise the caterpillars outdoors/find a large caterpillar and bring it in because there are lots of tachid flies in my area (you can tell if there are two little white strings coming out of your caterpillar after a few days). It can also happen when the monarch has OE - in this case it is usually able to make the chrysalis but then the chrysalis develops black spots and the adult never emerges. I hope your caterpillar is nice and healthy and makes it all the way to the adult phase ❤️

    Would this machine work with hot honey? Would the dried pepper powder added to the honey affect the machine?

  • @SagerFamilyFarm
    @SagerFamilyFarm3 ай бұрын

    I assume you mean "hot" as in "spicy" - probably if you're using powder. The honey has to go through the gears, and while the manual doesn't specifically mention additives, it does say that it's a great way to bottle creamed honey (which has small crystals, maybe similar in size to the powder). If you mean temperature hot - there is a very low maximum temp for the machine, and it is meant to be used with room temperature honey.

    I just made this recipe and refilled some of my old chapstick tubes and jars, and this worked really well for me. The only thing I changed was I added 2 additional teaspoons of almond to make the balm a bit smoother. It’s really hard for me to find a formula that works well on my chapped lips but this combination works really well. I’m going to make my own from here on out :) Thanks for posting this tutorial.

    any oil carriers can do the job. for me, my DIY lips balm ingredients --> Beeswax (main), Shea/Mango Butter (solid oils), Apricot Kernel Oil/Camellia Oil + Grapeseed Oil/Rosehip Oil + Jojoba Oil (liquid oils), Tocopherol Acetate & a bit of Colloidal Oatmeals + Arrowroots Powder. not trying Sunflower Oil & Castor Oil yet.. its all depends on own preference (do some research 1st). just need to experiments & play with the ratios of Beeswax to Oils either 1:1.5, 1:2 & etc.

    How do you treat organically I’ve heard of using powdered sugar and then a paper towel of mineral oil and thyme

  • @SagerFamilyFarm
    @SagerFamilyFarm Жыл бұрын

    The powdered sugar method has been shown to be ineffective, and I'm not sure about mineral oil and thyme. Randy Oliver has some experimental treatments you can read more about on his website, scientificbeekeeping.com/ In terms of effective organic treatments, there are a few options. 1) Create a broodless period of about 1 month. You can do this by caging your queen for that time or splitting your hive. 2) Formic Acid (Mite Away Quick Strips, Formic Pro) or Hop Beta Acid (Hop Guard) is available at most beekeeping suppliers. You need to wear correct PPE for these and read/follow the directions carefully - these are what I use to control mites.

    I test monthly, typically March through November in coastal California (both SF Bay Area and Southern CA). I don't test hives smaller than 5 frames because there are just too few bees.

    Hi dear, can you please tell me the exact maeasure of beeswax in GRAMS not in oz, because when i tried this formula the lip balm turned too hard 😕

  • @SagerFamilyFarm
    @SagerFamilyFarm Жыл бұрын

    Oh no! I use 7 grams in this recipe - if it is still too hard, you can actually roll the tubes all the way up and put the lip balm back into the bowl to remelt the mixture and add just a bit more oil at a time. I typically like a pretty firm lip balm, so if you like yours softer, adding more oil will help.

    Hi plz tell ingredients qty into percentages for making more lip balms. Thank u

  • @SagerFamilyFarm
    @SagerFamilyFarm Жыл бұрын

    It's a little tricky to use percentages because some of the ingredients are measured by weight and some by volume. When I make this in bigger batches, I use a recipe like this: 170g beeswax 2.25 cup almond oil 3/4 teaspoon vitamin E oil 3.6 ml essential oil It's not in percentages, but it should at least help with the conversion from drops to a larger volume (in teaspoons or milliliters). That recipe makes about 144 tubes. Hope that helps!
