Thank you - I learned so much! My mother worked at Ladies’ Home Journal in the early 1950s and still remembered the big comic book scare. How she and the other staff laughed at the ridiculous accusations being made, especially about the more mainstream comics.

I couldn't agree more about The VVitch. It disappointed me so much when I saw it. Everything that was built from the beginning was thrown away at the end. Like yeah, the witches are real, the devil is real, all the tension and ambiguity don't mean anything. It just there too fool you. I am so grateful for this documentary. I am from Yadkin County, born and raised (but now living on the coast for the last decade). This is one of those small moments that has changed my life because, yes, I got out, but I still visit home. And it's more and more difficult to do so and yet feels increasingly important to bear witness to. It's complicated to describe the fine copper wire of sadness that wiggles hard within my heart when I go "up home" or when this doc ended, but I bet you felt it so very many moments while filming, writing, researching, editing, recording, and I imagine most of all sitting with her in her house, listening to what we all listen to when we go to visit our elders: the musings of a very lonely person in an isolated town. She raised you in her own way, and people like her raised me. Though of course she was and is a pariah, she's not one there on her own couch. The locals and the "ones who stayed" ironically, or maybe within some sort of poetic justice I wouldn't wish on anyone, sound just like her. Their stories sound just like hers. Their bitterness sounds just like hers. Oh, that I hope that i can forgive even the cruelest of worlds, and that my stories on my couch (if anyone comes to hear them) aren't bitter, aren't full of hurt.

I just wanted to say thanks for this video. This and part two dropped during a very difficult time for me and these helped me out with inspiring me to continue working on my comics. I was in a dv situation which was hard to escape and even harder to come to terms with for years to come. I was only able to pull through and emotionally recover by turning to writing and comics. I'm very appreciative for all the research you put into your videos and share the understanding that horror can mean so much more than just blood and gore. It helped me articulate my own pain. It is cathartic, it is a means of exploring the hardest and most intangible aspects of ourselves and the cruel world we live in. My artwork and comics enabled me to transfer my pain into something physical, making it easier for me to understand and manage. Anguish was slowly transmuted to joy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I really hope you are doing well.
