    Thank you so much Tom. I have a Hohner engraved wood 21 button C-F accordion with all bad reed valves. What size of reed valve do I need to order as I see a variety, i.e. 40mm x 6.5 or 5.5 or 6.0.... Thank you and love your videos...

    I noticed something when trying this out, I used the same app you are using here, and when I downloaded it, it defaulted to showing A G F E… instead of A B C D like the screen in the video, so I scratched up one reed pretty badly because I thought I was doing the right scraping but I was doing the exact opposite and making it worse since the tuning screen was backwards, Also, I have 2 accordions, one is near perfectly in tune, I checked the reed block of the in-tune one on my test bellows and the tuning was consistently higher on each note outside of the accordion, this should be noted when tuning like this, otherwise you’ll put the accordion back together and it will be slightly out of tune.

    Hey Tom, I'm sad to see you put an end to repairing accordions. I've used your videos to help me repair my own accordions. I lack a lot of tools but accordion repairs is something that interests me. Let me know how I can contact you. I'm from the US but I'll cover all shipping costs like you mentioned.

    Tom, so sorry you are going, but I just wanted to say thank you. I learned practically all I know about accordion repair from your videos and they have served me well. I have restored one box and was able to tune another from a dry to wet musette tuning. Very grateful for the time you took to make these tutorials!

    Oh no!! Hey Tom - just wanted to say I'm sorry to see you go. I started watching your videos a little over a year ago and I have to say they gave me the confidence to try out something crazy like attempting to repair my own button accordions late last year. Please do keep this channel open. Just a possible thought for the future (unless I've missed it): perhaps live/interactive Q&A repair sessions? I'd certainly be willing to pay for something like this myself, if that helps any. Best wishes to you and thank you thank you thank you so much for all your guidance in your very helpful videos.

    Hello Tom, I took up playing the button accordion during covid, I have attended 5 different workshops on repairing button accordions and found it so difficult to follow the instructions on how to repair accordions . Recently I have seen some of your tutorials and made everything so simple to follow. I am belong to a "Mens Shed" in Dublin Ireland where there are about 50 members all retired men. The come from all backgrounds as in electricians - Plummer's -Painters - Clerical Workers - Train & Bus Drivers -Carpenters ect. we come together twice a week have tea and coffee and of course talk and try to help one another with our different skills, I will be 78 on the 20th. of March and watching your tutorials has given me the confidence to tutor people in repairing button accordion's. In Ireland the button accordion is a very popular with the young Irish people and their are very few people that can repair accordions. So Tom I would love to have the opportunity to use your tools . Thanking you in anticipation, Kind regards Patrick Foley

    Hi! I’m interested aswell! I’m from Germany and currently restoring an old Hess accordion but I lack a lot of tools. I already managed to fixing some leaks in the bellows and now I’m about to put on new wax for the reeds (with the help of your video). The equipment and tools really would help me out making a good restoration of this old beauty.

    I begin playing Button Melodeon next week. I wonder if I eventually need to buy another as a backup while it’s away being turned/serviced. How often does a (Saltarelle Bouebe) does one of these need to be tuned? Note that I’m a beginner and will probably play about 40 minutes a day. Thanks! 🙂😎🎻

  • @TomsMusicShop
    @TomsMusicShop4 ай бұрын

    I mean, as long as you take care of your instrument, and store it in a dry place (not the attic or basement), the tuning should be good for quite a while. Tuning gets mostly affected by the metal reeds oxidizing, getting, dusty, etc.

    Hello Tom, thanks for your videos, they are very helpful. How about replacing the buttons? I have an old Venezia with badly worn buttons, it would look so much better with new ones. I have not found much information of methods or replacing them. Getting them to level up seems like it could be difficult. By the way my 1st accordion was a Hohner Corona ii GCF red. Got from a fellow on the street for $100, wish I still had it... Thanks Brian

    Hi Brian! I've tried replacing buttons, but it's so hard to get them off, and press the new ones on. I think you might need a special press for that, but I am not sure. Good luck!

    Okay man. First of all, we tune the reeds IN the accordion. You can tune it outside, you put it pack and your tuning isn't okay anymore because the accordion house modifies the frequency, specially in bigger accordions. The other thing, we scratch alway the inner side of the reed tongue, NEVER the outter side. Finally, the tuning depends on the intonation of the reed tongue (distance over the hole). And in the end: you tune with an iPad software instead of a real tuning device... LOL.

    This is how I learned from a german guy who tunes for money, so that's why I do it this way. You don't have to follow suit.
