When you build a house that close to a dam where the edges of the river are soft dirt instead of solid rock, then it's only a matter of time until this happens.
Does anyone know if the dam will be removed next?
The city needs to compensate the homeowners house due to the city's negligence.
Wonder what the timeline is on the rock face?
I don't know the whole story but this is a lawsuit just waiting to happen. Who owned the dam city, state, private? There appears to be some negligence in the loss of this property and income.
Two weeks after this vid, 20 X 400 more feet of land collapsed into the river. A foot off the black pole on the first plot to on the corner of the second plot, all gone.
This is exactly why a lot of old dams need to be removed! Its heart breaking, these poor folks have lost their house and their store! 😢
Nice home.
Always time to demolish and sometimes even rebuild, but never to preserve.
How is not having the dam going to affect life 50,100 or more miles down stream?
Not much at all. Power was not generated for 6-7 years, and it had been run wide open for some time now too. Probably affects upstream more than anything
And yet billions go to other countries, and not to AMERICA’S REBUILDING! This dam was old, this should have never happened! We are in climate change weather now, these dams are from the Stone Age!
This is the best footage yet. Thank you. I really feel for this family and the community. It's hard to lose a generational landmark that brought so much of them together. I hope they rebuild somewhere new. I'd make a special trip out of my way on one of my frequent road trips up there to support them.
thank you for not adding music.
I usually do, but didn’t seem that it was fitting
@@SHAREMediaBK I would rather hear natural sounds of the video or nothing. Any video with music added I watch muted. Added music interferes with my own emotions of the video subject matter.
A business should never be that near to a Muni Operation
Y'know,.I think about the loss of memories of my familiesthis HOUSE and a STORE taken away by historical disregard, and then I think about this HOUSE and a STORE. GOY
Nature keeps displaying how our planet is being affected by our activities. We have been given choices and are not changing our habits or our lifestyles. Deny it if you must, but keep youreyes open and watch what is coming down the line on a global scale ...
Why didn't they move it?
YEP ANOTHER BIDEN FAILURE TRUMP 2024 OR ELSE
that idiot on the cat looks like he does not know what he is doing,,, who oked knocking down the store..
I grew up 3 minutes away from the dam. We used to drive on the bridge over the dam when I was a kid. Absolutely heartbreaking and Jim warned about this two years ago, but it fell on deaf ears. Praying for them.
Kinda stupid to tear that store down looking as how far it is from the edge of the river. Smart money would have been moving it although it would be tricky still a better option than trashing it.
biden: $250 to everyone effected. Ukraine needs another $60 billion
Thank you Biden!!! Instead of money to maintain our infrastructure, send trillions of dollars to other countries. Ukraine cough cough. Minnesota wants him to declare a state of emergency? LMFAO, he did nothing for Hawaii.
❤❤ I'm sorry,,, pour humor ,,,,,, I feel badly for these people
Well now they know where to build the highly needed spillway
And they still teach students the grand canyon took millions of years to form....
Looks like the river got the message that dams are becoming less and less popular or cost effective and decided to act on its own.
why is no one trying to repair the dam?
How come they didn't remove the power pole?
They should of removed the Fuckin Dam. It's worthless
Guess they shouldn't of cemented over those other 2 spillways huh?
I don't think the store would have fell in... why tear it down.
Wonder who paid for the demolition
Why would they destroy the store?
The eroding bank was coming for it.
Dam isn't very important, save store.
Blue Earth County makes a big mistake to buy and then destroy historic gone. Should save and bring to a safe place. Some people said they wanted to fire Blue Earth County employees. I know it's too late.
Breaks my heart that it is gone, but I don't see that dirt bank as stable, so it was probably necessary. Still a terrible thing that a family lost their Home and Business of Decades. Perhaps they can rebuild in a nearby but new location. I've been canoeing starting at Rapidan MANY times. It is a wonderful area.
The water level is 20’ below dam now. look at video. Dam is dry
What a shame! Though not from Minnesota, it's these out-of-the-way places we love finding and enjoying with the locals when traveling to new places.
Should have cleaned all the debris from the gates and the water may not have overflowed the dam in the first place
They had many years to put in an emergency spillway and failed to do so. It breaks my heart to see that store gone. No more pie for me. What a shame.
I’ve been watching this from Ca since this all started. I was heartbroken when the house fell into the river, I was hoping the store was going to be safe. This is very sad. I wonder how far under the store and property this erosion goes. They might loose all of the property I hope the city compensates them for the entire loss and at a good price including taking in mind how many decades the store was there.
Us at best…
Why blame the dam for, the land was going to give out whether the dam was there or not. The ground was weak and when the high water showed up it ran underneath the ground bank and weakin the bank even more. That dam was there for a few reasons, power and water control. Look at Michigan, this happened the same way . Dam broke and water went around until they were able to move back where it is suspose to be.
😢 so sad 😢
I wouldn't want to be those workers standing on that bridge...
Why wasn't the debris cleared from the spillway under the road? One man on an excavator with a thumb attachment could've prevented this mess. Reach over the edge, grab the logs, pitch them over the dam. Load them on a truck if possible. We do it on low water bridges everytime it floods so cars can pass and not get washed downstream. Whoever is in charge of the dam should be asked the same question.
This sets a bad precedent for any property that may be in a flood zone. Is government going to buy my house before it ever sees a drop of water?
Why demo the dam store?
Yeah cuz taking away somebody's livelihood makes way more sense than just destroying a part of the Dam....wtf
