Should I tape my ankle if I don’t have any sprains? Should I tape if not m just now beginning to play?

It's sad. I sprained my ankles most of the time. And it hits you physcologicaly , now I'm afraid to play ball or run without an ankle supporter. . There's that feeling you gonna role your ankle again, I'm starting to be dependent on my ankle supports. And it's sad. It's not comfortable at all. Wearing it all the time

One of the best ways to prevent ankle sprains is to look at the sole of your shoes and see of the part right before your pinky toe has an elongated or wider surface. I have sprain my ankle countless of times and shoes with wider outer foot soles have helped me the most, after high top shoes.

Wear when you play and walk within the brace. And also stand on the rehabbed ankle by itself to strengthen the ligaments around it sometimes.

What everybody forgets to consider: -ProPlayers get their ankles taped -Curry often wears an additional brace for protection -there is no info on the SEVERITY of the sprains in these studies...huge difference whether it's a high sprain and wheter it's grade I or grade II sprain - previous studies showed that the thicker the air unit, the more severe is the sprain...not sure whether they differentiated between high and low cut. The nerves on your foot just react too late, if your soles are too thick. I have a 35 yr history of playing basketball and many many sprains. My doctor told me a few yrs ago: your body and face look like you are 15 yrs younger but x-rays of your feet look like you should be in a nursing home. I'm almost 47 now and exclusively play in old school hight tops (Jordan 12, Reebook Question, Even Air Force 1 high) and use an additional ankle brace. All my sprains with the ankle brace have been a lot less severe. My worst sprains came from stopping at full speed...mostly in new shoes. All my sprains OUTSIDE of basketball, happened in low cuts...but I had sprains since I was 5 years old...it's my weak spot...in 35 yrs of basketball I"ve had countless ankle sprains, 1 miniscus injury (age 22) and a partial tear of my achilles (age 43) and chipped teeth, broken nose, cuts, etc. But my lower body it was always the ankles. Even my knees look like I"m 20 yrs younger in the MRT cos my feet took all the damage 😞 I used to dunk until I was 36 so 10 yrs ago and I"m only 5.9 tall or 177cm. In 2010 I partially dislocated my ankle, never dunked after this. I was the fatsest guy my entire life on any court, but today I only play at 70-80% speed. I can still run faster if I want to but it's the landings and stops I"m worried about. I"m like an old sports car that can still go full speed but the tires and brakes are not up to it any more. Anyway my pro tips to prevent sprains: Strenghten your ankles (google proprioception training ankles) Use a balanceboard Do deadlifts (or other core strenght exercises) Walk barefoot around the house, "write your name" with your big toe on the floor, or pick up pencils with your toes and place them on the other side of your body Use resistance bands to strenghten your feet See a foot doctor and get insoles if needed Brush your teeth standing on one foot only Warm up and stretch ALL THE TIME And most important tip: Don"t play basketball 😉

I injured my knee due to the using of an ankle braces. It's good to reduce ankle sprain but they restrict the dorsi flexion And it damages the knee. Smh

I do believe that football players have really strong ankle joints and all of them wear low tops. Since most of their ankle mobility is not in their shoes but they build naturally by wearing low tops since it requires more activation of the ankle while the high tops prevents activation of ankle

I currently walk with a can and sure would love to walk a bit without using. a cane. My job depends upon it. Even if I could walk a bit better. Thanks
