Los Angeles County Fire Department

Los Angeles County Fire Department

Welcome to the official KZread Channel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

We are a highly responsive team of over 4,300 firefighters, lifeguards, haz-mat specialists, foresters, helicopter pilots, dozer operators and business professionals working to support our public safety mission to keep the public out of harm's way. Each day, we provide fire protection and life safety services to more than 3.8 million residents and commercial business customers in the largest county in America. When we're called into action as members of California Task Force 2, our Urban Search and Rescue Team, we'll travel around the globe to respond whenever a major disaster strikes.

The only thing I did to train was get a 2 week trial membership to LA fitness. I did the stair master & held 2 30 lb weights/10 mins a day for 2 weeks straight. The stair master is the hardest part.. meant to wear you out early

I just came here to comment on your confined space rescue video.... Other then the fact that a rescue team should have been standing by for him to enter the space and the atmosphere should have been monitored prior to and during entry. Your snails pace was painful to watch. Also the guy fell out inside of a confined space so it shouldn't have even been a question. I'm sure in any real situation you would have known that because you would have been told in the emergency call. The only question you should have had is where is he and we'll your guy asks that he should already have a 5x or similar device in his hand and getting it into the hole we'll your entrant is gearing up. The tripod should have been up on no time flat. That is why so many people die in confined spaces and why a good number of them are firefighters. Hard to watch that demo. My job is confined space rescue and high angle rescue. I take it very serious and hope you see this comment. I'm not trying to dog on you but for real that was a really bad demo.

I guess It depends which machine you have at your gym. The one at mine does resistance 7 for 60 steps per minute. I usually just do 20 secs at level 6 then 3 minutes at level 7!

This is what happens when the chief union monopolizes the agility test. 150 bucks every year for this thing when the biddle is a WAY better test of fitness and only costs 20 bucks.

GREAT VIDEO! The CPAT can definitely be a little overwhelming at first if you don't understand the test as a whole and more specifically if you don't understand your strength and weaknesses of each event. I recommend anyone who is preparing to take the CPAT first watch a well instructed CPAT instructional video, then go out and train in the specific skills the test has to offer (i.e. the stair climb, forcible entry prop, etc.) All in all, the CPAT is very doable. Just be sure to train prior to the test and continue your training even after the test because the CPAT is the minimum physical requirement to become a firefighter. Once you progress on in the firefighter recruitment process and are fortunate to be offered a firefighter position, the real physical test of the fire academy comes and it will continue throughout your career. (Note: There are some fire departments out there that are adopting a 3rd and 4th round to the firefighter hiring process where you'll undergo a "Pre-Academy." The pre academy is like a combine where your respected fire department will put you through several events such as: - firefighter skills - speed, strength, and condition testing - Group projects - and more The pre academy is designed to test your physical ability, your teamwork and communication skills, and your ability to handle adversity). Be ready for anything and everything when it comes to the firefighter recruitment process. You never want to mess up or miss an opportunity. GET YOUR MIND RIGHT, AND GO GET YOUR DREAM GOOD LUCK FUTURE FIREFIGHTERS!

This test, for the most part, is very easy. The only thing you need to train for is the treadmill test w/ weighted vest. After the treadmill test, the remainder of the course is mostly upper body endurance. Cheers
