Holy crap! Daniel, we’re not in Hogwarts anymore….this is amazing! That rhythmic timing in the spoken words and also that modern yet classic voice of his! It’s been a while since I heard Sondheim sounding like the good old days! Congrats for sure, Danny boy!!

Dan has only gotten better over time and it’s pretty impressive how multitalented he is. Triple threat, acting, singing, and dancing. lol I don’t think I at 11 years old he thought he’d get this far 😅

Each time I listen to this, I'm just amazed at how Dan does this without years and years of vocal training. The breath control needed for this, probably one of the toughest Sondheim patter songs, takes a LOT of skill. Not Getting Married is tougher, IMO - but not by much.

The synthesizer constantly appearing in the orchestration is an anachronism for 1973 (when this scene is set). Synths were around then, but they weren't used like that - particularly on Broadway. Most were bulky, unreliable, and wouldn't hold their pitch; sequencing - which this track appears to involve - was in its infancy. Stevie Wonder and some rock bands used them, but they weren't yet an important part of pop music. And on Broadway, where it HAS to work, every time.....

This is not a drill: The pro-shot is happening! I don't know whether or not Daniel, Jonathan and Lindsay will be the leads or their replacements, it depends on when it's filmed I suppose.

Honestly, he's great, but it's not as good as LMM version... The hysterical pace is missing, it's much slower... It's missing the feel of "I'm loosing it, my mind, my friend..."

Am I the only person in the world who will NEVER be able to sit through this show in the theater because I'll be an ugly-crying, sobbing mess?! I LOVE this song, but every time I hear it, knowing it comes at the end of the show, I can't stop thinking about that opening scene, where these sweet, loving, energetic friends have become jaded, mis-trustful and broken. The more enthusiastic I see them at the end, I can't help but think the whole play, including the title, is one big ironic twist. I know relationships change, but I still see beautiful tragedy....

Please let us not forget that in 2017 Merrily We Roll Along had a very successful run at the Huntington Theater in Boston with Mark Umbers, Eden Espinosa and Damian Humbley. I saw it 3 times and loved and was moved by every time. To cap off the run Maria Friedman gave a one night only solo concert of "Lenny and Steve" that I went to as well. Very memorable nights at the Huntington Theater.

I played Mary in the 1986 production of Merrily at TheaterWorks Silicon Valley! It was just TheaterWorks then. I even won best actress in a musical from the Bay Area Critics Circle Awards for my performance. We did it 5 years after the much maligned original production on Broadway. It holds a giant place in my heart. I don't have the money to get to NYC (I live in Oregon) but I am supporting and loving this cast and production with my whole heart. I just bought the cast recording. Of course the original cast recording is perfection to me (that overture and all those young voices❤️❤️) but this new one is brilliant!☺️
