Why do you not ensure the height of those small drawer cabinets match your table saw so they can be used as extenders for larger cuts?

Recently I have seen a pretty cool video of a woodworker who uses a piece of wood to add a router to his DeWalt table saw. Pretty ingenious, and cheap too. Unfortunately he doesn't have a fence and suggests moving the wood to the other side of the table to use the fence. This idea appears to be a much better solution and should work out just fine. Thank you so much, for this really clean and easy solution. Using the 2 x 4 in the center of the fence is just brilliant. Great video!

Wow! Here's a video 3 years old now in 2024 and I thought this was a newish model. I bought one a week ago and I also have the DW745. The passive exhaust system on the 745 is not very good but I know I either need to install a vacuum exhaust system or just wheel the saw outside (which is what I do anyway). I've used the DW7491 once so far and I was amazed how much of the sawdust came shooting out of the exhaust pipe. After operating the DW745 I had to air blast to remove trapped sawdust but with the 7491, I used the blower as it's a cleanup habit I have and . . . no sawdust came out. Big improvement there I reckon. Taking your (negative) comments one by one: My opinion is that the exhaust system on the 7491 is good even without a vacuum system attached. DeWalt may have improved the design of the blade cavity because it seems to work really well. As for the fence adjustment knob well, if you don't use it, why mention it but I usually move the fence by hand too then fine tune the distance using the knob, that's what it's there for and it has to be easier than tapping the fence back and forth while trying to read the measuring tape. My drop gate on the fence is not so hard to release. I use only nominal force to release it, aka not a problem. I am not a fan of the tilt adjustment and thought DeWalt would improve on the DW745 maybe using a rack & pinion setup as it is on the fence. I simply cannot have the needle accurate at one end AND the other. It is not possible. The adjustable internal stoppers at 0 degrees and 45 degrees allow me to just jam the wheel up one end or the other, ignore the needle but know I have 0 degrees or 45 degrees. I set needle accuracy in the middle, at 22.5 degrees using a digital slope meter advised by Karaon. Cheap, effective and leave you with two hands to make the tilt adjustment/locking. Tripping your workshop circuit breaker isn't a negative feature of this saw; it's a power issue at your end. The power switch is an advance on the earlier models and is a safety feature. Difficult to turn On accidentally but easy to turn Off. It's safer than the DW745 but maybe not as convenient. The power cord on power tools should never be overly long but on my 7491 it is over 1M long which is plenty long enough. Overall, a good saw but could use one further improvement tweak in the tilt mech area. Thanks for your update on the saw Cornerfield; good to know it is still working well for you.

Thinking about buying this to replace my DWE 7480. Glad to see you can use it without the stand. The dust collection seems to work pretty well on my 7480 so I don't understand why this saw doesn't work so well. Anyway, thanks for posting.

Beautiful build. Looks great! Genius idea with shimming under the top to fix the height. Sign of a good wood worker is being able to solve problems like that. Also just wanted to say, I love that tool wall at the end! That is actually what made me want to comment. Definitely going to watch your video on that soon. Thanks for posting this, and thanks in advance for the other one that I'm sure I'll enjoy!

Hi, it's a nice project, I also have the same table saw as you. I wanted to ask you, why did you leave a void under the saw table? Doesn't sawdust fall underneath? HI.

I start my build tomorrow. I have the Sawstop which has the dust lift at the rear which lead me to one significant change to the design. Will have a cabinet under the outfeed table to house a shop vac.

You can modify the first design. 1. Make a cut with width equal to the width of the wood in the left piece starting from the center bottom to half the length. 2. Similarly cut the right piece but with the cut starting from the top instead. 3. Now you can join the two pieces by inserting them together on the cuts. Creating a similar stand in an 'X' shape. You save wood and it is kinda more portable. You can detach the pieces and carry easily in your backpack. No glue neede. (The design is not my original)

I like the this table design which sharing the fence with the table saw. Is this Marita compact router power enough for a table route usage? I am debating whether buying a regular router(bigger) or a compact/trim router. the Compact router should be good using by one hand but no sure whether is good for table.

Nice setup. The advantage of this system is it's cheap to build. I went with a French cleat system, which is good for allowing me to rearrange shelves, cupboards & larger tool holders. For most of my smaller tools, I've found magnetic strips ideal. Very neat & easy to access. In the UK Lidl regularly sells them for around £3. I've got dozens of them over the past few years & use them all over my workshop in every spare bit of space. You can screw them onto boards with a cleat on the back or screw them to shelves or to the wall. Great for organizing things like router bits, screwdriver bits, forstner bits & also larger tools like saws & hammers. The good thing is its easy to swap things around, as they're not cut to size for specific tool profiles.

Just glueing up some boards to make my own tool wall. Three years later since my first comment. And I still didn't change my mind. I will go with your solution Rico. No french cleat. Maybe I do 2-3 single french cleat holders for a specific group which I want to be mobile eg. Bitholder. But most of the tools stay permanent in their respective spot. Best from germany
