This channel provides campers who want to camp in Colorado with videos of Colorado's best campgrounds, including their facilities, campground loops, and campsites. Videos feature the top campgrounds in Colorado's National and State Parks, State Wildlife Areas, BLM lands, and select private campgrounds. Whether you are a tent camper, pull a trailer, or drive an RV, the videos will help you decide which campgrounds you want to target for reservations. What's more, the companion website, "Colorado Campgrounds-What you need to know" provides you with specific details for each campsite: campsite photos, type of views, spacing, amount of shade, length of campsite, grade, electric, water, and sewer services, distance to the bathroom, and campsite amenities such as table, shelter, grill, and fire-ring. Also provided in the companion website is information about marijuana, alcohol, fireworks, guns, altitude sickness, high country driving, and what you need to see while visiting Colorado.

What about the safety there? *
I stayed in the Prairie Ridge Loop on the lake and had no issues. I had several other trailers around me. Try Arkansas Point which tends to have a lot of campers around if you are concerned for your safety. Happy camping!
Steve, This was an amazing comprehensive video. Thank you!
Thanks for the compliment. Hope you subscribed to the channel where I have all of Colorado’s camping State Parks posted. Happy camping!
Do you know if you can kayak in the reservoir? Or just boating seasonally? Thanks!
I went to Palomo SP in the fall and the water level was very low as the reservoir is heavily used by the farmers in the valley below. So I did not see any boating activity on the lake when I was there and the marina was closed. I did find this paragraph about the boating activities. “Boating: Water skiing, boat fishing, and general recreation are the main water activities on the 337-acre reservoir. Motorboats, sailboards, and other personal watercraft are permitted” Therefore it does appear that kayaking is permitted. You can always contact the state park administrators. Happy camping and thanks for using our KZread channel.
@@coloradocampgrounds-whatyo7709 thank you so much for your reply! Heading out there next month and your video was helpful.
Spell check got me. Should have been Paonia SP
Just looking at 11 mile this week for a quik getaway ( only bout 1 hr 45 mins away from us ) I used Goog Earth to view Sat image of the campground so we could reference trees, shade, rocks for wind protection and where we could put a tent. There seems to be a few good sites at Rocky Ridge , however most are pretty wide open as evidenced from your Recon video. RV'ers do fine here but tent campers need to pick the right site otherwise they will get hammered by the winds coming across the whole of South Park valley -which is incredibly huge. Thanks for producing these videos its a tremendous help when trying to figure out a campground here in CO
Thanks for sharing! Very informative!
Thanks. Enjoy our KZread channel and Chatfield SP.
Nice video
Sylvan Lake is a great camping hideaway. Take a look at Rifle Falls SP further west off I-70. It’s another of our favorites.
Great video! Thank you so much. Very well detailed.
Thanks for the feedback. Cherry Creek is a gem with the beach, lake, and bike trails. Happy Camping!
I am adventuring out to Timber Creek Campground for the first time in the coming days and found your video. This was extremely helpful information and I appreciate the drive through of the campsites! Excited to be visiting.
Great that you found our KZread channel. Hope you venture into RMNP and see some elk and moose. The Trail Ridge Road is a must drive above treeline and across the alpine tundra on the highest continuously paved road in the U.S.
Hi, thanks so much for your video. Love to see it and I subscribed! I am looking to go here in a few weeks (early June). Staying in Witchers cove. Wondering if all the roads to get there are in bad shape? Do you think it’s worth finding a different site? Looks beautiful but scared it will mess up my car
I haven’t been there this year so I don’t know if they graded the road to knock down the gravel washboard. If you go real slow you will be alright.
Is there a fishing pier?
No. There is a small dock at the marina but not suitable for fishing. You can rent boats and pontoons at the marina.
This is a year after you posted this, but the timing was perfect for it to come up on our YT feed. We'll be hosting at Timber Creek this year (24) and have only done a very brief drive through previously. So thanks for giving us an enhanced lay of the land. We'll be heading there next weekend.
I really like staying there and am sorry I didn’t take my fly rod to fish the headwaters of the Colorado River which runs through the Kawuneeche Valley and along Timber Creek. Enjoy and thanks for viewing the video. I hope you subscribed to our KZread channel. The website which used to accompany the KZread channel was hacked 2 years ago and I decided not to rebuild it, losing three years of work. Oh well. Enjoy camping at TC.
@@coloradocampgrounds-whatyo7709 I bought a fly rod and license when we got to Colorado with the idea of doing something I haven't done in 40+ years. Hope to find an unclaimed spot in the National Forest to do some panning as well. So much to explore and do and so little time.
Great review 🍻
Thanks! Enjoy camping there.
I live 3 minutes away can't wait to take my new to me pop up camper out there
A good place for a test run. Enjoy.
Great video! We’re going next week and I hope the lakes aren’t still frozen. What time of year did you go? It looks green but I see snow still on the mountains.
Thanks...I shot this video May 31 - June 1, 2018. Lathrop was the first Colorado State Park. I suspect the lakes will not be frozen, but then it is Colorado!
Thanks for your videos. Your web link isn't working.
Thanks for viewing/using our videos to plan your Colorado camping trips. Hackers destroyed my website which took me three years and a significant investment to build. I decided not to rebuild the website but plan to keep the KZread channel going. I will update the videos at some point, but it will require me to re-edit each video to remove the multiple website references and links.
Oh man that stinks. I'll continue to enjoy your videos. Thanks!
Thanks for all your hard work. I love state parks
I appreciate your positive feedback. Colorado is blessed with great State Parks.
Road will kill you they have hundreds of pot holes. Be careful
Yes, if you approach Eleven Mile State Park from the west, the road is in rough shape. If you approach Eleven Mile from the north, the pavement is in much better shape.
Thank you. This helps me plan ahead!
You’re welcome. Go to Big B’s Orchard in nearby Hotchkiss. Great outdoor cafe/music/orchard venue.
Great job, thank you for doing this, very helpful!
Enjoy Cherry Creek. Great as a home base to explore Denver.
Thank you. See you soon
Thank you too
Is this a safe park to camp in
I do not have any statistics to back this up but my wife and I felt safe when we camped there. We were in a trailer in the main campground.
We were in Reverend’s Ridge Loop C.
Beautiful camground!
Yes it is. The old cottonwoods provide some good shade. Happy camping!
Love your videos....keep up the great work!
Thanks for your comment. Happy camping!
Great tour. I have lived in the Denver area my entire life but never been here.
Thanks for the compliment. I hope you subscribed to the channel. Check out the video of Rifle Falls State Park with its triple 70 foot waterfalls. It’s out in western Colorado but worth a visit. Happy camping!
Hi do I need to book for the camp site for my car it’s not a camper I’ll just sleep in a car then .. what link if ever I need to pay btw I pay my registration so I don’t know if I still have to pay for the camp space thanks
When I visited Elk Creek Campground it was privately owned; it recently became a KOA. You will need to call them to see if they allow car camping. 888-562-0503. Good luck.
F loop camping this year was not good. The grass and weeds have grown up 3 to 4 feet in height everywhere below the dam, serious fire danger, don't know why they can't mow this mess. we will never camp here again. The restrooms were clean.
Sorry to hear this. We camped in Dutch Carlie when I shot this video and it was in great shape.
Booked at Site #1 in September to see some nice leaf colors for fall! Super excited to put my kayak on the lake. I'll have a great time with my family.
Should be gorgeous. Thanks for using our channel to check out Colorado’s campgrounds.
i lived there for about 4 months . I worked for the park ranger 4 days and the gypsum plant in Eagle for 4 days . The park ranger Joe Starbuck gave me a a job and a place to stay along with my wife and 2 young children .His cabin and ours are no longer there i see . Boy its nice to see this video all the same .We were there around 97 i think .Thankyou
Thanks for your comments and historical relationship with Sylvan Lake SP. What a beautiful place to live although I could imagine winters could get harsh. We sure enjoyed our stay there.
@@coloradocampgrounds-whatyo7709 Yes it gets a little snow !!!!We left and moved to Rifle Co. in September. I am going to come for a visit one day
Awesome video, thank u for showing the camp grounds
Glad you are finding them helpful. Happy camping!
We set up our tent in the darkness next to the river and were alarmingly awakened in the middle of the night by a horrendous screeching sound and a light as bright as the sun beaming right into our tent. We thought for sure we were about to be abducted by aliens, until it passed and we realized it was a train just across the river screeching up the grade. Phew!
Mmm…I have hiked those tracks to fish the Arkansas and thought that track was abandoned.
well it was around 1987 or '88@@coloradocampgrounds-whatyo7709
Love your videos...we are heading to Colorado in the fall...any suggestions for lower elevation camping for end of October?? We are in a Class B Leisure Travel Van
Which direction are you coming from?
Will be coming from Moab heading east to Black Gunnison then back toward Denver@@coloradocampgrounds-whatyo7709
I assume by your comment that you mean that you are traveling the southern route across Colorado and stopping at the National park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison. You may want to check out the Great Sand Dunes National Park which features the largest sand dunes in the U.S. Further east is one of our favorite state parks named Mueller SP (electric hook-ups). A small hidden gem near Mueller is Eleven Mile Canyon (not to be confused with Eleven Mile State Park). Eleven Mile Canyon has no hook-ups but is very unique with three 1800’s train tunnels that you drive through along a stunning cascading river between towering canyon walls. At Colorado Springs, we have camped several times at Cheyenne Mountain State Park (near NORAD) which overlooks the Colorado plains and Fort Carson (you can hear taps in the evening). Finally, in Denver Cherry Creek State Park is on a Reservoir with several camping loops in an old cottonwood grove. You can view videos of these campgrounds on our KZread channel. Happy camping!
UPDATE!! CHIMNEY VIEW NOW HAS 50AMP SERVICE
Thanks for that update.
Great job on the video 📸 I'll subscribe 👍 Very helpful.
Thanks for subscribing. Enjoy your time at State Forest. I am sure you will see some moose.

Thank you so much for subscribing! Enjoy our channel and find just the right Colorado campsite.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! ❤️
Thanks for checking out our KZread channel. We have Colorado's four national parks and all of the State Parks (offering RV/trailer camping), as well of some of our campground favorites. Enjoy Colorado camping!
Cool. Nicely done
Thanks for checking us out. Enjoy our channel and Colorado camping!
Thanks for sharing! Just subbed!
Thanks for subscribing! Enjoy Colorado camping…it’s the best!
is non-potable water available that you can fill your RV fresh tank with at the campground?
I assume you meant potable (drinkable) water. Reverends Ridge has a potable water hookup at the dump station. Many of the loops have potable warmer faucets but it is more difficult to hook up to them to fill your tank.
@@coloradocampgrounds-whatyo7709 yes, brain fart. thanks for the info
thank you for this video; it was super helpful :)

We stay here in a few days. Nice to get a good look at it first. great video!
Thanks! Sylvan Lake is a favorite. Thanks for using our channel to check out Colorado campgrounds.
Very helpful. Thanks
You are welcome. Thanks for using our KZread channel. Be sure to go up the road from Rifle Gap to Rifle Falls State Park if you haven’t been there. Rifle Falls State Park has a triple water falls.
Is everything super unlevel or is that just the distortion of the camera?
Hi Stephen, I use a GoPro which tends to give a fishbowl perspective. A high percentage of the 924 campsites in Eleven Mile SP are flat or have a slight grade. Following are the campsites to avoid as they have a severe grade: 9, 25, 31, 46, 60, 67, 68, 72, 79, 110, and 815. Thanks for using my KZread channel. Steve
@@coloradocampgrounds-whatyo7709 Thanks for the reply. I hear a lot about mosquitos. How are they in late July? Also, other that the side of the lake, is there a better side to be on than the other (North side vs south side)? or just personal preference.
I didn’t experience any mosquitos when I was there. The more developed and more used campgrounds are on the north side of the Lake. The marina (with a small grocery store) is also on the north side. The south side is accessed via a gravel road which has ridges and rattles your vehicle and your bones. Not fun to drive on.
@@stephensharp8091 The mosquitos tend to only be out in the early evening in Summer, bring some Deet and you'll be fine.
the marina is run by jerks
Really? I've been going there for over 15 years now, they have always been professional and friendly.
GREAT CHANNEL! Subscribed! :)
Thanks for the feedback. I have another video to be released soon of Elk Creek Campground and RV Park up at Grand Lake near the west entrance of RMNP. It’s a great little private campground with moose roaming the grounds.
Thanks so much for posting this. I really like the campsite # callouts. Good to see another camping Jeeper on there. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Cheyenne Mountain SP is a unique place. We enjoy listening to the bugle calls from Fort Carson below. I am working on Golden Gate Canyon State Park. I should get it posted in the next week or so.
Helpful, thanks! Just subscribed 😊
Thanks. We enjoyed our stay at the Great Sand Dunes. It is a special place. Glad you subscribed!
