I like your remark about what happens if you miss your exit from a roundabout. I've done it more than once over my driving life. Even once with a 40 foot articulated rig. The only time it makes sense to put traffic lights on a roundabout is at motorway/A road interchanges where you would end up with traffic queued up for miles on the motorway during rush hour because the traffic on the A road wouldn't give traffic coming off the motorway a chance to move.

I hate driving in England! When I passed my test it was fun. In 2022 it's a nightmare. Selfish bad driving, and cyclists everywhere slowing everyone down. Your driving was ok. You need to learn how to 'roundabout' 🤣

I prefer the use of "left, central or right hand" lane, not least when they all exist. The average traffic speed and acceleration of any given vehicle can also affect the movement between lanes when negotiating a roundabout safely. I am a veteran of London's Hyde Park Corner when it used to be like jockeying for position. Toot-toot!!

A English hint if you approaching Island and don't know witch exit you want move to onside Lane and driver round as many times as you like reading the songs then. Indicate across to lane needed. Everyone's a winner.

I got hit by an American at a Roundabout, as I was going all the way round, he entered without stopping, hit me in the side at full speed so that my car span out of control, turns over as it met the curb and rolled through a sign post and into a field. No one was hurt, by the grace of God. When we met at the side of the road I asked him why he crashed right into me. He answered, because he was told that at roundabouts there is no need for you to stop, you just drive right on! Then I passed out and woke up in a Travel Lodge foyer surrounded by people who witnessed the crash.

Maybe I should have recorded my drive today in Glendale, California: stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, average speed 6 (yes, SIX!) miles per hour, and a citation for turning left at the wrong time of day, not having seen a new, tiny sign saying I shouldn't. FUN. NOT.

Excellent comparison between UK and US,, I was born just south of London, moved to US when I was 18. Having used roundabouts, I think the US would benefit from adopting roundabouts. Apparently, many negative comments about lane usage, repeated adnausium, by negative minded people failing to appreciate a complimentary video. Mark thank you for this vid, apologies for the misguided judgements you received. Anyone like to critique my spelling also? Cheers from San Diego, Ca

Lack of indication that will land you up in a accident. Especially on round about you ment to signal then signal left when you come off. You almost crashed when you went all the way around. And yes you do have to stop and their is traffic lights

Britain would be the best place to drive most classic American cars, if only they were small enough. That said, hang up your keys and take the bus. It's better than on our continent (ex-Brit Canadian here!) for sure.

You are one of the few U.S. citizens who seem capable of understanding the concept of ´traffic flow´. You are confident and have obviously adapted well . Ever thought about starting a business to help other U.S. citizens taking a vacation in the U.K. to understand how to drive ? You are a natural talent .

I recognised that main road, the A505 with the sneaky speed cameras. Coming up to that roundabout one evening I witnessed one of nature's wonders, of one of those mass starling bird flocks in the sky above it, all wheeling around in unison. Marvelous; then they all dived down into the spinney of trees growing on the roundabout to roost for the night. And yes, do take notice what many others are telling you about roundabout lane discipline. Being in the wrong position is especially dangerous if you have motorcycles around you. However, there's no law to say you can't drive round and around on the inside lane all day long.

So close to having an accident at the roundabout as you were in the wrong lane all the way around it. There was a point where the 4X4 could have pulled out as it would look like you were leaving at the previous exit and you never indicated where you were going. 😳🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🤠

I know Tesco Royston quite well, tho I prefer Tesco Baldock! I know Ashwell quite well too as my sister lives in Newnham, a couple of miles down the road. That A505 is a shit road tho! If you enjoy roundabouts, tho you're lucky not to have caused a crash, and you find yourself around these parts again, why not pop into Letchworth and have a look at the first roundabout in the world.

its better on the right side, because i can show my middle finger better to the oncoming traffic on my motorbike, but left side driving gives me the possibility to hit the car driver with my clutch hand, which is stronger then my gas hand...lol

This video is not at all representative of driving in the UK. In reality our roads are grotesquely overcrowded and due to mass immigration they become more crowded by the day. Even on open motorways it’s likely cars will be stationary for some part of the journey and generally speaking its impossible to calculate how long any journey will take.

Cricket ground on the right at 5:31. You can see the sight screens. I think I played there in a Sunday League game in the early '70s. Looks a bit familiar, though grounds I played at once 40-something years ago can sort of merge in the memory. At least I haven't confused Ashwell with Ashtead, as I remember the latter all too clearly!

Word of warning, you shouldn't drive around the roundabout in the outside lane. If you're in the wrong lane you should just continue and then comeback to the roundabout and start over. crossing over lanes is fine when nobody is there, but is classed as a major fail in a driving test. If your not sure which lane to get / which exit to take get in to the right hand lane to go to the inner lane of the roundabout, go round the roundabout and see which exit to take. Getting in the left lane and not taking your exit will cause problems if you have cars around you.
