Do you recommend tapping foot in actual practicing? Tapping foot while playing instrument is kinda taboo, both in ensemble and in solo playing…I think the habit of tapping foot should be considered undesirable since it does not help the precise counting, although it may feel like so.

Technique inflation! Neat term. Why do you say circular breathing is the new double tonguing? Thanks for the video! I'm inspired to try and add this to my technique again.
@HyenaFox8 ай бұрын
"Creep" would be a similar synonym in this context- as in, so many pieces you're likely going to play are going to ask you do circular breathe that this technique has moved from an advanced technique to something most professional players are just expected to be able to play. In the same way that double tonguing used to be considered advanced but now most things you could play would need it. Kinda like altissimo on sax- super advanced, but tons of songs feature prominent altissimo notes to the point where you're going to want to be able to do it if you play a lot.

Okay, so. I'm a saxophonist. I deal with treble clef. If I'm on an Eb sax I can read bass clef as-is (useful to pretend to be a tuba on baritone sax), and I can sometimes - very sometimes - transpose, on-the-fly, C instrument music on a Bb sax (say, for example, to double an oboe part on soprano in a pinch, or euphonium on tenor.) I haven't tried it in almost 20 years, but I'm pretty sure I could go back to my college sophomore-level music theory class and sit in on a test and reasonably pass it. I even once embarked on a highly ambitious (and doomed to fail) journey to compose a wind symphony arrangement of the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 9th (in the hopes that my high school band would be brave enough to attempt it) but life interrupted and I'm pretty sure I still have a lot of that work in a box somewhere. What I'm trying to say is, I'm no superstar musician or anything, but I'm definitely not an amateur. I have never properly seen bassoon sheet music before. Does it always look like this? How do you survive? How are you not driven insane already? WHY DO YOU NEED MIDDLE C TO MOVE AROUND SO MUCH JUST LEAVE IT WHERE IT IS????? And how do you make it look so easy?

Awesome! I guessed wrong. In a few spots on the second one, the articulation sounded a little cumbersome, so I guessed it was a Heckel player playing an unfamiliar Bell instrument. To be completely honest, I’ve been out of my bassoonery for quite a while (although ironically, I have done a little with contrabassoon), so I’m sad to admit that I hadn’t heard of Bell! Nominally retire in three years, so start gradually getting my bassoon life back!

Spoiler alert for people who haven't finished it yet.. I guessed correctly but I think my reasoning might have been a little faulty. I was actually going by comparison of the second bassoon part in each recording and assumed that Bassoon 2 was playing the second part in the first recording, and Bassoon 1 was playing the second part in the second recording. But then I read the description and saw the recordings were made weeks apart so that may have not been the case. Either way, I thought that the second bassoon in the first recording sounded much better than that in the second recording. The lower register was much more resonant, full and clear, which led me to believe it was the heckel. The difference here was for me, more prominent than the difference between the first bassoons in each recording.
