The Wood Whirler

The Wood Whirler

I learned to turn wood totally by watching the many fine turners on KZread. I don't think I could have done it without them. I don't know anyone who could have mentored me. I want to pay back by sharing what I have learned and some methods I have developed on my own, based on my many years of building experience with show cars and airplanes.

    I wish I had bought one of these when they still had them. I always knew they could be converted for metal for a small amount of money but now all of their lathes are a pittance in size compared to this one.

    This is only the second video of yours I've seen. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time waiting for the bowl to launch! Take a guess which video I saw first. Thank goodness you kept it together. I will be going through your videos for sure. Thanks!

    Thank you again for the video. What type of glue did you use at first, before you covered it up with the sawdust?

  • @TheWoodWhirler
    @TheWoodWhirler2 ай бұрын

    Not glue, Winwax water-based sealer. You want to make a paste out of sealer and sawdust. Then rub it in. A little messy, but worth it. Larry

    Could I ask, what are you wearing on your face to protect your face while you are using your lathe? I see a piece of leather hanging down and want to get something that will protect me while I am working. Thank you very much for this awesome video!

    you have to sharper the bit the same way you sharpen round carbide bits on the face of the bit one cutting edge will cut and the other one wont just like a twist drill

  • @TheWoodWhirler
    @TheWoodWhirler5 ай бұрын

    Thanks for your concern. However, this is a wood drill bit, not an end mill or steel drill bit. The tolerances are not as important unless there are unreasonably large differences. Minor differences would go totally unnoticed. Take care, Larry

    @user-jv7ie5jv9l6 ай бұрын

    you screw up the cutting edge by filing the top of the cutting edge you have to file the face like a router bit other wise you will not have the same cutting depth on both sides

    Lets save ACKS! I've been in touch with Tom from ACKS abrasive paste. They are about to shut down their business do to sagging sales. They are a small mom n pop operation and make/sell a couple of great products at a VERY reasonable price. Fellow turners lets support this small business.
