"do you listen to panchiko?". i immediate looked you guys up on Spotify and listened to d>e>a>t>h>m>e>a>t>a>l>. i fell in love and watched a video on your guys story. truly touching, started to binge listen, and have heard almost everything. gwen everest always has been my favorite. but the song was only like a minute long. so glad i found this. i love you panchiko 💕

Tous mes groupes préférés n’ont pas eu le succès qu’ils méritaient hormis CAN et les Talking Heads. Polvo a eu du succès, ils se sont accrochés, mais les journalistes et les labels leur reprochaient de « ne pas accorder leurs guitares ». Les journalistes musicaux sont souvent arrogants, quand même. Unwound n’a pas eu le succès qu’il méritait je trouve, contrairement à Sonic Youth. J’ai été l’un des premiers à l’époque sur KZread en 2007 à uploader des trucs des « Rallizes Dénudés », groupe japonais de shoegaze des années 60 (!), 30 ans avant Slowdive et son superbe « Souvlaki ». E-H Little Big Muff, Telecaster made in Japan et guitare Teisco, du talent et un endroit quelconque au Japon. Un succès immédiat puis: plus rien après… jusqu’à KZread. Pareil pour la City Pop. Internet fait des merveilles parfois: il invente la Vaporwave, il déterre des trucs, fédère des communautés de passionnés… À l’époque où ce titre est sorti, les gens n’en avaient que pour Thom Yorke et ses potes. Les journalistes qui ont reçu le CD 💿 ont brisé les espoirs de jeunes gens qui croyaient au départ en leur musique (en français, une phrase résume tout: « c’est la vie! »). Mais ça reste quand même nul car j’aurais aimé grandir avec ce titre (j’ai la trentaine), avec Panchiko, et peut-être même perdre ma virginité dessus - c’était sur « Luna » des Smashing Pumpkins, petit clin d’œil au passage. Ça me rappelle ce journaliste qui avait insulté un jeune duo français de « Daft punks! ». Souvent, ça ne tient pas à grand chose, le succès ou l’échec. Si Panchiko avait eu du succès, la vie aurait été bien différente pour eux. Pas nécessairement en bien, d’ailleurs. Ça aurait été juste différent, mais à quel prix ? Panchiko aurait peut-être signé pour un label et aurait eu du succès durant quelques mois ou années, on aurait vendu leur musique chez tous les disquaires et même téléchargé leur musique sur Emule et on l’aurait gravée avec Nero, comme on faisait il y a 20 ans. Et enfin, le groupe aurait sombré dans l’oubli. Mais avec cette histoire de CD à 49cts (que j’aurais acheté rien que pour la pochette, tant elle a un petit côté punk qui ne me déplaît pas), l’histoire est encore plus belle et plus dingue aussi. Si un type n’avait jamais déboursé 49cts en espérant écouter du vrai death metal hardcore sans doute, peut-être, la musique de Panchiko aurait été perdue pour toujours. 49cts et plus de 20 ans plus tard, les gens aiment cette musique. C’est encore plus beau comme histoire. Panchiko s’est battu contre son propre destin, son oubli programmé. On ne pense jamais à ce que ça a dû faire aux membres du groupe. Se souvenir de cette fille qui nous a largué, le service militaire, et ensuite les pages de l’existence qui se tournent, insidieusement et rapidement tant 20 ans c’était hier. Mais grâce à tout ça, moi comme d’autres, on se souviendra de Panchiko demain, et après-demain. Je reviendrai en 2030 si le Monde n’a pas explosé d’ici-là dans l’hiver nucléaire permanent. Et je posterai avec mon mauvais anglais, car certaines choses ne changent jamais: « 2030, here ? » Merci les gars.
