    as a year 11 student, by any chance would you say that using the words 'may', could, but, perhaps in your analysis you are reaching those top levels in the mark scheme.

  • @StreamEnglish

    it doesn't automatically mean that, but it is certainly a good sign that a student understands how to express themselves in an English essay. Those words become more powerful when being used to evaluate (it could mean this... but it also could mean this...); successful evaluation IS a top of the mark scheme skill.

    hiya! Could you say that the sky is a synechdoche for freedom at 36:44 or would that not be correct? :)) ❣💕

  • @StreamEnglish
    @StreamEnglish3 күн бұрын

    Afraid not as that wouldn't be correct use of the term. Synecdoche is when a part of something is used to represent the whole. For example, 'heels' is synecdoche of 'high heels' as you are using one part of the shoe to refer to the whole shoe. Other examples would be 'wheels' for a car or 'the crown' for the monarchy.

    For the quote: "Your apathy is like a wound in salt". Could it also suggest that in the long run, despite the initial breakup being painful, it is what they needed, just like how salt in a wound in painful initially but heals the wound in the long run? And that this may imply that the relationship could have been toxic. This idea is reinforced as "apathy" shows how their partner did not care, highlighting how the relationship and the speaker's partner may have been toxic.

    I would say that there isn't enough evidence in the poem to reach that argument. I think you're amazing for working on having your own interpretation as well, though! It's such a great skill to be able to hear someone else's interpretation and then build on it with your own.

    for the introduction you said its not possible to explain an inspector calls without mentioning what happened between 1912 and 1945 but for edexcel context isnt marked so do i still need to?

  • @StreamEnglish
    @StreamEnglish22 күн бұрын

    I have read examiner comments from Edexcel that have said, while context is not assessed, if it is used well then it can give validity to the argument being made. You can therefore view some context as being an incredibly useful defence for your analysis and still worth using. You wouldn't want to spend ages on it, though. The 1912-1945 example is one I WOULD keep to help evaluate the significance of all the dramatic irony and allusions in the play.

    I believe the part 'huts of history's shame' is a metaphor literally alluding to the way in which the African were placed on the barracks in hut like cages to be sold off into slavery. Infact it was a historical shame that their fellow Africans can round them up in such a way just to gain financial or economic development. But the encoded meaning speaks to the life of Maya Angelou where she was raped by her step father at the age of six. After which she became mute for 5 years being encompasses in fear and shame. But eventually she rised from the huts of historical shame finding her voice and identity in her literary career

    I well agree with the time point that you brought up as in text there was so much going on and when Mrs Mallard went to her room obviously when someone you love dies you need some space or like some alone time to be more specific and I mean by that it could take an hour for that as well if you know what I mean; to recover from that pain and grief so yes she needed some time so you're right by the point of time there, and tysmm for the video helped alot for my boards ❤✨

    Does “Faustian Bargain” make sense when describing Macbeth or especially Lady Macbeth?

  • @StreamEnglish
    @StreamEnglishАй бұрын

    It's very close, but I don't think it is a clear cut 'yes'. The reason I say that is because a Faustian bargain implies the individual has actively made a choice to give up the moral value; part of the debate of the play is whether Macbeth is making a choice or just fulfilling fate. One could certainly make the case for elements of the Faustian Bargain, but I would argue that would be at least an A Level standard essay and not a level of argument required for even grade 9 of GCSE.
