Hello, and welcome to my KZread channel.

Rhine Labs Preforms Chip Programming, PCB Rework - Post Production Correction, primarily focusing on industrial PCBs rather than consumer electronics. On occasion I will accept consumer electronics and automotive.

I'll create videos showcasing my passion for a variety of interests, including PCB repairs, laser engraving, unboxings, reviews, and teardowns of the products I use. My content will encompass device repairs, machining, aircraft, live music, firearms, and documentation of my experiences and travels.

Some Politics and wild comments and rants when required.

    I haven't bought DDE, but JBC's current products have indeed shrunk in quality. I purchased the CD-2BHQF, which used to come with a transformer. However, the latest batch of JBC's CD series soldering stations now use a switching power supply instead. I emailed JBC to confirm, and they informed me that they will gradually transition to switching power supplies. The funny thing is, the manual included with my soldering station still mentions the transformer component.

    Even, if you were allowed to repair it, Milwaukee sell most of the inside components as a set. So you, if your switch is not working, you need to buy set which is battery contact, control board, switch and part of the motor/whole motor. To all Milwaukee owners who wonder why Milwaukee send you new tool instead of fixing. Cause its cheaper for them. Not to mention USA get 5 year warranty, while rest of the world gets 3, if you register the tool. Milwaukee is a DIY brand now. They are more powerful than other tools, but with a cost of longevity. They will die fast, but its "not a problem", since they replace the tool. So its the same as going to a big box store, buying their brand, use and abuse the tool, then when it dies, you got return it and get a new one.

    If they just provided the value of the inductor or a part number for it, it would not have escalated this far!95% of electronics parts can be sourced from places other then the manufacture of the item you are repairing i am sure this Inductor is a common part just needed the value. Why replace a tool when a $0.02 to $0.15 can fix it. They do brag about sustainability and part of that is keeping items out of landfills and reducing e-waste.

    @@Rhine_Labs In Europe many repair shops do not try to fix them as they would be worth 70-80% worth of a new tool. One dude called Dean Doherty on KZread repair tools as a business and often state its not worth the wait for the parts and that it will cost almost as a brand new tool. Now apparently they are also in hot water as there might be a US based lawsuit of allegedly using force labor prisoners in China to make their gloves.

    True, just avoid Milwuakee. Their repair policy is just horrible. Also their spare part politics. I mean why should you buy the whole electronics kit, from the battery terminals until the armature, if just the switch has a problem. Milwaukee (and also Dewalt in some cases) doesent sell the switch alone, it's a whole assembly which is as spare part almost as expensive, as the whole new machine.

  • @Rhine_Labs

    @@WolfgangWittler1984 (D) If a manufacturer does not use an authorized repair provider, “fair and reasonable terms” means at a price that reflects the actual cost to the manufacturer to prepare and deliver the part, tool, or documentation, exclusive of any research and development costs incurred.

  • @WolfgangWittler1984

    @@Rhine_Labs That's not the point: I pay a fair price for the spare parts which covers all the costs for the manufacturer with the labour for the guy who is packing and shipping the parts to me. I have no problems witht his. But what Milwaukee and Dewalt are doing, is that when for example a switch is broken, then they will not sell you just a switch. They will sell you a whole unit from the battery terminals up to the armature, with everything (including the whole electronics) in between. Nothing of this broken, there is simply no reason for them to bundle this stuff. If they would be fair, then they let me just buy and pay for a switch for a reasonable price, if just a switch is broken.

    @Rhine-Labs Hey Rhine, Just got my DDU (DDE-2C), the unit doesn't go to sleep mode. The unit is running the infamous 8886448 firmware. I tried to download the latest from JBC with the hope that such issues would be patched. The unit freezes when I insert the USB stick. I tried many other USB stick, same issue. Have you found a workaround as of today ? or is there a specific firmware which works that you got directly from JBC ?

  • @Rhine_Labs
    @Rhine_Labs7 күн бұрын

    Contact JBC they are aware of the issue's they may say they have never herd of it (that's seems to be their default) or they will ignore you but they are aware of the issue. If you have a unit with a Downgraded MCU you are probably may be out of luck. They did recently update their software download page www.jbctools.com/software.html and the DDE-C Says SEE TABLE and list of serial #'s so not sure if they are making custom firmware for units affected?

    @@Rhine_LabsThanks for the feedback. My unit is not listed on their website. @@Rhine_Labs Hey Rhine, so I got in contact with JBC support (spain). I got a very quick and friendly support regarding my issue. They asked me to actually update my unit with 8886905 (my unit was not listed though...). I think that they update the online device list based on customer complaints. Sleep mode and hibernate are now working just fine. Note that the process for updating via the USB stick is slightly different from what's described within the "Firmware Update Manual" found next to the binaries archive on their website. You actually have to plug in the stick and then boot the unit. I used a FAT32 stick. Note that the file size for 8886905 (3 Mo) is significantly smaller than 8886903 (8 Mo)...maybe it's related to the MCU downgrade not being capable of handling big binaries, so 905 is probably made for these units. I don't really know...anyway, it seems that i got a better support experience than you or other people complaining here. Let's see how this unit performs in the future. I have 5+ years old JBC equipment at work, I love it. That's why I invested in one for my private usage. Let's see if the quality is still there. Anyway thanks for your investigation work and for sharing your experience with us :) !

    So many companies are like that. For example Raspberry, a company freaking formed around "makers" and engineers. They think they are some kind of wizard because they built a circuit and us mere mortals couldn't possibly understand or fix their incredibly simple designs that they try to hide with their secrets. They slip in proprietary stuff too, not to make it better but to make it more difficult to repair. Don't get me started on appliances, power tools with coded batteries, firearms tools, other tools, etc. A child could build and understand most of this stuff... but they're wizards! No, they're assholes.

    Those flex cables with crimped pins at the end are the spawn of satan. Once the metal oxidizes at the interface between the pins and the traces, bad things happen and you have to replace the thing with hopefully something more reliable. Discrete hookup wires twisted together work well and will outlast most things :)
