    I really do not like the work "manipulation" because I associate it with negative descriptions of troubled children. Although without this association I suppose the word is innocent - simply something done with your hands, originally, I guess (I haven't looked it up yet.). But it doesn't sound very "you", Kathryn, so I am glad you only said it once or maybe twice at the beginning and then used lots of other lovely words!

    I agree and understand that association. That's why I called the week 'cloth folding' rather than 'fabric manipulation' 😊

    I remember at school we were told loo came from the French l’eau - in England after the Conqest when they emptied their night potties out of the bedroom window they used to call out ‘Gardez l’eau’ to warn the unwary below!

    Dearest Kathryn, truly my favorite in every way. The color, the stitching, the texture, the soft traffic sounds, the treasured pin (thank you Sheila) and auntie's bed linen. Mr. Williams’ sweet quote folded away. xo

    I do enjoy a properly folded garment - although I put more things on hangers now so deprive myself of the pleasure. But don't talk about folding fitted sheets! I used to iron and fold them for my mum, but I don't bother with either for myself. Mum was like the Princess and the Pea about creased bed linen - she felt it all. I am the exact opposite!

    Always cut your thread on a slant it is easier to thread. I am enjoying this series if I was younger (I am 90) I might be tempted to stitch all 52 squares but I have 2 large quilts to quilt so I doubt I will have time to start anything new. Greetings from New Zealand all though I am from the North of England.

    I know, I did try it on my lap size kawandi, one and a half rounds but I really wasn't enjoying the process and for me that is the most important thing so I took it out. Call it 'kawandi inspired ' ♥️

    “My head is bursting with the joy of the unknown. My heart is expanding a thousand fold.” Rumi I have done a few pieces of this type of work and it is that joy of the unknown, that element of surprise which I love. The structured form of the mandala was a challenge which I enjoyed, but this intuitive way of working is definitely my “thing”. Wonderful contrast between the two projects - so grateful dear Kathryn. 💜 Cath

    What a beautiful piece, texture and color! And the words to tenderly finish it off. I have been watching this video in several short sessions due to hectic household issues but i feel i may have to watch it as a whole at some point because it seemed so relaxing and interesting. Have a lovely time in the UK Kathryn (I very much admire and appreciate that you still manage to have videos ready for us to watch while you are away form home)🥰🍀💖

    Thank you so much for catering to the recovering perfectionist who might find she needs to do this in neat little restrained rows rather than glorious, serendipitous swirls! Goodness knows I am capable of producing puckers and folds inadvertently. Now let’s see how I go with doing it on purpose 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

    Small suggestion thread the needle before cutting the thread. The thread has a twist to it and if you thread the needle first you will not get many knots in your thread. I was told that when I started to quilt a few years ago. Regards from New Zealand.

And it is the icing on the cake with the bit of your Auntie's pillowcase (it looks like a bow). What a great exercise you have given us. Although I have loved them all. Oh, this looks fun. I just purchased some silk from India in an online sale. I can't wait to try it. Hey! We in the USA want our missing 4 ounces back in those pints! Now I gotta read about who here established our liquid measurements - they cheated us! Oh, (listening further) you told us, thank you 🙃 Watching further, it occurred to me that the way you are stitching this could be done by free form machine embroidery. Still having to put that quilting foot in my machine, I am wondering if it is easy or difficult to manipulate the silk under the foot of the machine. (Just sharing my thoughts as I watch. ) It is later in the day now, and I have chosen and prepared my fabric. I can't help but think the folds remind me of the draping of dresses in those old masterpiece paintings. Think I will invest in some silk embroidery threads. I am using a gold metallic on this piece. I am wary, though, of doing French knots with metallic thread! Ohhh, I love that traveling pouch! Re the structure of the Mandala, verses a more free-form embroidery, I am in agreement - the free form is more for me. Just saying. Hummm, folds in the house - my room divider has folds! Thank you for another fun page.I look forward to every Monday.🌷🌷🌷

While I listened to you (and sometimes watched) I made little folds in a piece of silk that has been a blouse and stitch the folds on to a piece of felt that has been a sweater. Oooh - it looks like melted chocolate with tiny pearls scattered over it. When you do you, some kind of alchemy always makes it beautiful 💟 The Sheldon folder is a real item. I bought one for my daughter who was obsessed with The Big Bang Theory and she has folded everything ever since. For a folding rabbit hole, look for Japanese head or neck scarf videos. You're welcome. My late husband kept sheep on our croft in the Outer Hebrides and we used sheep hurdles (a single, metal, five barred gate) clipped together to make pens to corral them for shearing etc. We used two hurdles at either end which folded over each other for extra strength - hence the sheep fold or pen fold. My grandmother would die again if she saw it 😂! But I loved to see Sheldon folding his clothes (I hate comedy series, this is one of the very few I loved 😂) So I love this and I think I could incorporate a technique like this as embellishment for a piece. This would be great in a blue fabric to imitate the waves 🌊 and then add some shells 🐚…. Oh, so many ideas and so little time 🙃🧡💙💜💚🤎❤️🩷🩵💛♥️

    I grew up hearing my dad quote, "A pint's a pound the world around." Both being 16 oz. So, I'm curious, then is a quart 40 oz in England now, or still 32? And a gallon? It's different, but oddly somnambulant hearing the cars pass instead of the usual sounds of your woods & farm, or the tick-ticking of Stella's claws. I fold just about everything, clothes and blankets, in to 9 - 1/3 each direction. I'm not sure where I got the habit, but it just seems like things fit in whatever drawer or space I need to put them. Except my husband's trousers. When I fold them, and sometimes he folds them, he specifically asked me to fold them in 8, first in half matching the legs, then quarters. Not sure why, just his odd preference and the 1/3's I used bugged him. Small price for marital contentment. Finally, as I worked, I kept remembering my mother's skirts when I was a little girl, maybe 3irsh. She had a soft cotton, orange/yellow plaid house skirt with a pleated waist, sort of balloony, that went just past her knees. I remember visually running down the hall into the kitchen and burying my face in the folds between her knees. The cloth was soft and folded around my face.

  • @k3n.clothtales
    @k3n.clothtalesКүн бұрын

    That's a beautiful memory of your face in the folds of your Mum's skirt. ❤️ No, a pound in Britain is also 16oz, and we also use stone for weight especially of people which is 14 lbs. Also our hundredweight is 8 stone or 112lbs whereas in the US, a hundredweight is 100lbs. A British quart is 40 fluid ozs and a gallon is 8 pints or 160 fluid ozs. I hope I got all that right, it's quite confusing. 😂 I believe dress and shoe sizes are also different. 😜❤️
