The Wallace Collection is a national museum in the heart of London with an internationally outstanding collection of unsurpassed masterpieces of paintings, sculpture, furniture, arms and armour and porcelain. It is free and open daily.
Built over the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, it is one of the finest and most celebrated collections in the world.
So that it could be kept together and enjoyed by generations of visitors, the collection was given to the British Nation in 1897. It was an astonishing bequest and one of the greatest gifts of art works ever to be transferred into public ownership.
Today, our job is to maintain, research, and inspire the public to love and understand the Collection.

what kind of dagger is it? like what is the name of that form of ottoman dagger
Why has no one commented on the great commentary
I skipped ahead as the video started, heard Tobias voice and recognised him from those history movie reaction videos, and went back to watch the video fully. Love that guy.
Thank you for watching!
I got a 100 year old black n white print...he has rolling I stare into his eyes he's looking right at you then I burst out laughing...he's a character
The first bust we see fails the speakers' own 'test' of slavery, and doesn't show them in chains. This is self contradictory, and perhaps generalised, generic statements about all European views of Africans don't standup. As they're Italian, what empire are they allegedly representing - the Italians didn't have a colonial empire, not were they involved in the slave trade.
VERY POOR SOUND.
Rishard Wallace was hoodwinked more than once .
That woman certainly has long thighs.
Thankyou i love this and also own boulle copies
The vocal-fry is bad! Otherwise, it had the potential to be a great presentation.
Very Interesting.
Why doesn't it run anymore?
Another excellent presentation by Dr. Helen in both content and execution.
Excellent material and presentation! I will not look at 19th century French pieces with more respect.
send back to turkish
Maximilian's armour at 16:05 with the slick horizontal slit in the helmet has a distinct Robocop vibe about it. It looks so futuristic or maybe the creators of Robocop took unexpected inspiration in the artefacts of the past.
Thank you for making this.

Thank you for watching!

Thank you for watching!
Thank you Toby, very interesting.
Marie Antoinette had a great eye, good taste.
Very interesting, well worth watching, only sorry I didn't get to see the exhibition in person.
Hi there! You can revisit Frans Hals: The Male Portrait via our online exhibition here: www.wallacecollection.org/explore/explore-in-depth/virtual-exhibitions/virtual-exhibitions-frans-hals/
@@TheWallacecollection Cool😀
can you adjust the color on the thumbnail or replace it with the correct colors as the artist intended? - this pic is currently and obviously far too yellow (pre-varnish restoration obviously) - just move the slider in a photo editor towards the cool and blue side, do it for the future inspiration of real artists out there! This inattention to detail suggests a sloppy editor who is not trained in how to see fine art - you can fix this if you really care about keeping the public interested in the best art out there, please.
man the end is even more painful to listen to during the current war. wonder how many russians will never joust again...
I love these works of art. Nobody today can quite capture what these masters' paintings did. The other thing, is these paintings had a suggestion hidden in them, the more you look the more you can't not see.
Thank you for watching!
Many thanks. Good and clearly commented video. I would be interested to know how much you can still see of your opponent and your surroundings with such a helmet on your head.
Poor sound makes it hard to listen to. Need soft room not all hard surfaces. High reverb time = bad
Tell the V&A to give his throne back.
It is a sin to deny a dying man water so sad to deny.
dr capwell is badass!
I have an ottoman dagger
Wonderful exhibition ❤
Beautiful! What is the name of the song that is played? :)
The Qajar dynasty were us, Azerbaijani Turks.
Liar
Whoever is a liar in this case, let him be punished by Allah... @@sepehrfarahani4289
Once I photoshopped away his hat, clothing and facial hair. I was shocked to see, without his facial hair, that his expression is actually sad. I think that's the secret of this fascinating portrait.
It's a shame that regardless of poetry being practiced still till this day it's not nearly as inspirational as it was back then
Awesome, thank you🙏
Thank you for watching!
Very beautiful! However intentional, i found the little "easteregg" of the Theuerdank on the desk delightful.
Thank you, very good to revisit this a Couple times.
We're happy to hear it! Thank you for watching.
The jacket can be fashion forward, including the hat
I love his concept and inspiration for painting the characters.
Thank you for watching!
What’s the music in this video?
Thank you for the video! Ive always loved how vivid and bold Sandby’s work is.
Thank you for your kind words. Keep an eye out for our upcoming History of Collecting seminars!
Excellent. Thank you.
Thank you for you kind words!
African nations still can’t make something like this.
wonderful women! Not only huge knowledge but also skills to lecture and diffuse information is pleasurable way!
Very intresting, but the sounds of such bad quality should not have happen in XXI century on public museum channel. IT really lower the wole experience. Just some good headphones with micro would make huge difference!

This is excellent information. Just one critique: when you finish discussing a slide, please linger, pause, go silent, and allow the viewer to zero-in on what you are referencing within the slide and then allow us to contemplate what you have told us while we look at the slide.
