Thanx for a great review of that board, it looks like a modern pig model, do you think it should works with a D fin? Usually i use a pivot fin with a large base

I have been using a high speed in mine all the way back in my 8’8” wilderness and it it feels great though you have to baby it. I’m curious in trying the power blade now but I think the board is meant for a high speed template because the board want the spring and acceleration out of turns. It’s not designed to pivot. It’s designed for speed and rail to rail surfing. So I am curious why people wanna use such a upright fin like the power glide.

Really well done review. I like your using the level on the bottom profile and in depth observations with some shredding! I just ordered a Harley Diamond Drive and now I'm second guessing but you said you'd take maneuverability over nose riding? That kinda hit because the Diamond Drive is described as a HPLB. Anyway, my first longboard purchase. I usually ride shortboard/fishes. Again, well done.

Would this be too big of a jump from a 9 ft 6 longboard? I'm finding in bigger waves the board is a bit bulky, but scared i'm not going to be able to catch anything at first since it's a whole foot jump. Surfing out in Montauk and thinking about this for the fall season... any advice would be appreciated!

I own one, and surfed it in all conditions, from ankle mush junk to over head, as a single and 2+1. It's definitely a small beach break machine, 2+1 recommended on those conditions, surfed it as single in over head and it gave a scary ride, so no more over waist size surf for me on that one. But i do recommend it for anyone surfing a beach break and wants to sit next to the longboards in the lineup.. 🤙

I have a bunch of Vee bottom boards and they ride completely different to anything with a Concave. The reason I started with that statement is to help people understand why it's difficult to nose ride at first. Once you get used to it, the V really helps smooth everything out, it helps in so many many ways, BUT, it's a tough transition to and from a concave feel.

I liked your explanation of hulls and how they ride. There are a few other vids out there of guys reviewing hulls and they go try to surf it like it's a performance thruster and of course, give it a poor score because it didn't perform like a higher performance board. It's nice seeing someone who has experience with hulls already and understands how they ride, give a proper assessment of the board. I got into hulls by accident when I bought a 6'0 Wilderness Stubbie shaped out of Santa Barbara off craigslist. I knew nothing about them and bought the board anyways. That was when I started researching convex bottom surfboards and learned that I was on a displacement hull. I recently just got a 7'6 hull and it is the best board I've ever owned. They are so cruisey and really encourage the rider to just kick back in the cockpit and enjoy the ride. It's so fun just squatting in the center of the board with your feet less than shoulder width apart for max trim and just feeling the glide. It's so peaceful and really teaches you to not try to force turns or surf a certain way - but rather enjoy the ride. Another thing is I've found hulls significantly easier to get to the nose on. I've never had the balls to just suddenly start walking to the nose in the middle of a ride, but with my 7'6 I find sitting further up on the board feels way more comfortable and I've hit cheater 5's countless times. Check out the Koz McRae Mistress hull, your Fantastic Acid is very similar to the 7'6 Mistress I have.

Yeah thanks that’s helpful. I’m looking at the 9’6”, but our waves are really soft, low energy and although 170lbs not a heavy footed surfer, do you think I’d still need to go above the 10” version?

Hey great to hear. I ended up returning the Farberow flex fin (it was a really bad fit for my fin box - too loose). I’ve been mostly using a 10” Sallas x Kelis which apart from looking really stunning in teal, is a great nose riding fin, lots of drive with its medium base, and still whippy when time to turn. When the waves permit, I’ll try the Sub 10 again. Thanks for the update.

I really appreciate your reviews, especially this one for the Apex. You obviously put a ton of work into it and I find your breakdown extremely helpful. Looking to get the 9’6” and pair it with the 10” Volan version of the Power Flex for our sometimes peeling beach breaks and use a 9.5” Classic pivot for a slow peeling river mouth/sand bar break. I weigh about 180lbs in a wetsuit if anyone has thoughts about this combination. Thanks again for your great review.
