In This episode I will be reviewing a 9’0 Mango Jam by Kai Sallas in Thunderbolt Silver technology
The Mango Jam is Kai Sallas answer to a low volume log that caters to a more high performance approach to logging. Although its still a single fin the rails, tucked edge and lower volume outline keep it lively under the feet. The wide point is pushed below center and instead of nose concave a slight v is prominent tip to tail. Is this the ideal 2 plus 1 alternative? Well let’s get a closer look.
The rocker is pretty continuous throughout and flips at the nose and tail.
The rails from nose to tail are full but the width of the board is low very similar to a shortboard rail. A tucked edge is starting 2 feet up from the tail. Bottom has a continuous slight v from tip to tail.

I have a bunch of Vee bottom boards and they ride completely different to anything with a Concave. The reason I started with that statement is to help people understand why it's difficult to nose ride at first. Once you get used to it, the V really helps smooth everything out, it helps in so many many ways, BUT, it's a tough transition to and from a concave feel.

I have the 9'4 with a 10" spiral. Killer combination. I find it to be a superb noserider. I've sold my log as I no longer need it. Mango jam is just brilliant. Very rewarding board to use.

Great review! I have the 9’4 Mango Jam & agree with nearly everything you said in this video. Not the greatest noserider, but surfing this thing from the tail is soooo much fun. Throwing this board onto its rail is insane. Very fun board. Highly recommend.

Really digging these board and fin reviews. I have a 10' Sprout and the Thunderbolt tech is legit!

Thank you very much. I will be reviewing the Sprout after the holidays. I had a 9’2 and it was a really fun board.

Good review, as always. What would you recommend between the CJ Apex and Mango Jam as an all rounder, for 1-4ft beachbreak surf, for a bit of noseriding but fun turns too?

I would suggest the apex as a better all around longboard especially if you want to be able to nose ride more comfortable. Not sure if you have seen it but I also reviewed a 9’1 Apex and it was one of my favorite boards

@@surfcraftunion thanks a lot. Yes, watched that review a few times! The Apex does look great. Tend to use a 5'8" firewire mashup at the Wave Pool, which is pretty ideal there, but it's pretty frustrating / low wave count in the sea. Tend to use a 6'10" egg most of the time in the sea now. At 40 years old (started at 21), 5'10" tall, 160lbs, only getting to go about once a week - beach is 1hr 15m away, and wave pool 20 mins away - a longboard just seems to make a lot of sense in the typical 1-4ft beach break waves we get here. Even the egg doesn't really come alive until 3ft+. Always envious of longboarders with their smiling faces, long rides and high wave counts!

@@surf6d769 the nice thing about the apex is it’s higher volume for float, stability, and paddling but since they put hard edge in the tail and the wide point is back it makes it super nimble. Keep in mind also the difference between the mango and apex is around 17 liters. I know they are both longboards but that is a drastic difference. Btw what a treat to have a fun wave pool. Hoping to try one soon.

@@surfcraftunion thanks, that's great. Apex sounds ideal. Yeah, hopefully you'll get to try a Wave pool soon! Sorry, last query - do you reckon the Greenough 4a fin would suit the Apex, or would the Skindog sub 10 still be best? Am a bit clueless regarding longboard fins.
