Try something, learn something, make something...Join me on my journey to becoming a Master Bladesmith. I'm an Apprentice with the ABS(American Bladesmith Society) and I thought I'd take you all along with me on this journey of learning and exploration as I forge knives, swords, axes, or anything made of metal. I also enjoy melting metals and casting things. So if you like watching REALLY hot metal and fire, or even want to learn a little bit about metalwork, this is a good spot for you. Moving to slow and swinging it too wide, but everyone has they're own play on welding technique but it usually all applies the same idea, anyone who's getting into welding just needs to do research on the basics and mess around from there it's all trial and error no machine or rod is gonna function to a T,they'res to much variable when it comes to stick welding, basically unless you spend alot of time refining your skills to make it pretty the main task is to make it structurally sound for the project your working on,one of my first welds that I made money from was done on a Sierra's(truck) rear shock absorber top mount,I used a E6013 rod on maybe 65amps with a multiprocess titanium welder, the guy paid me 120 and he drove to NY to FL and back to MA with what I did,now the weld was ugly but it did its job and that's all that people really care about, the only one who's gonna shit on how a weld looks is if you lay boogers with fluxcore, burn through,or they know welding personally, other than that people want the job done and thats it sometimes you gotta put some extra work into it just for satisfaction but that's extra (p.s. I work entirely with harbor freight gear and it all functions perfect from drill press to welder to ppe,you don't need to spend a fortune to get into welding and it's a huge source of money if you have the drive to put yourself out there and take up challenges)
I sincerely appreciate your comment fine sir. To be honest, I found this technique out myself, have NO idea if its correct, I just found it to be helpful in what I was doing. I welded my anvil stand with this technique (well, 3/4 to be precise, I struggled with the first 1/4 until this). I know I'm not the best welder, I'd classify myself as a farm welder, I get the job done and I'm always learning. I love welding, I think its an artform as well as a practical trade. You mentioned the variable in stick welding, I couldn't agree more. I've learned that the amperage itself is a HUGE factor in the weld (other than the obvious limits of rods), just going up or down a couple of amps makes a difference. I think welding is a crucial trade, like blacksmithing.
@@IntoTheFire777 completely understand and I'm not being mean or knocking you down in anyway that's why I put so much time into my comment, and I'm happy you agree with alot of what I said because everything is constructive criticism, but with 6013 the main goal is to get and even buildup of the flux but moving quick,I'm personally trying to get used to 6011 because it doesn't put out as much flux it doesnt like to hold a arc for long as the 6013 so it penetrates like crazy better for thicker metals for sure but it's definitely hard to get used too but I'm sure you've messed around with a few sticks by now,and perfectly as you said you're a farmer style welder so 6013 is a good all around,it's definitely helpful to open up the arsenal a bit though, anyways keep up the welds for sure you have alot of actual potential,I underwing alot of people to see they're abilities and some people just don't have the "touch" for it(sucks 6010 isn't available in stores for me it's a really good filler weld if you can use it right)
Also angle it more going directly down gives a awkward heating/pooling/stacking/and just all around harder to handles the weld,it might just be the camera though
