Annual Inspections are not required for ALL aircraft ...Home Slice... check §91.409, and there are many other issues like your preventative maintenance ...you must be the owner of the aircraft and hold at least a private pilot certificate, with your Airworthiness determination and Definition but this one is embarrassing. Stick with just teaching flying...maybe.

To the guy who asked what to do on a night flight when the weather changed- when you fly VFR you always do a weather check before you fly for your intended flight path or area, even if just toddling around. An hour of flying would give you plenty of info about any weather conditions that may affect your VFR flight. If you notice conditions changing you either start back immediately to your home airport to land or contact air traffic control for flight and weather information to proceed to an alternate airport. This should be part of your flight plan. Even toodles are a chance to practice planning flights and practicing skills. Fly safe.

I watched your video because it mentioned risk management. I had just watched a KZread video by Meghan Kelly about the Kennedy and a book about RFK jr. called Ask Not. They ended up with the air crash as an example of the Kennedy men’s tendency towards risky behavior. They talked about new information I hadn’t heard before and your video was the most recent. I’m glad you mentioned that he didn’t have flight following, but he had also turned off his radios so had no communication with anyone during the flight. She also said that an American Airline jet was on a collision course with him and that they nor the nearby airport couldn’t raise him so the American plane had to divert around him shortly before his erratic flight maneuvers. I think the biggest factor in this case was Kennedy’s inflated sense of confidence and ego because of his family history and way he was raised. The boys especially were expected to always win at everything they did no matter how they accomplished that, to not accept personal failure or responsibility, and to be “the man” in all situations. Kennedy needed to get his wife’s sister to her destination to impress her family members that didn’t really approve of him, especially since he and Karoline were having problems. He needed to prove to his wife that he could take care of her and her sister to try to smooth things with her. And flying is a macho thing to d which fits into the Kennedy playboy image. John jr’s past relatives and history got in his way.

As an instructor, when you do or say something, it must be correct... My critique is that a more succinct outline and bullet-points be written and followed. At times, the discussion strayed or got l-o-n-g. If you are going to go in-depth on the workings or physics of a system, please research before creating similes that are, frankly, incorrect (eg., the alternator/ battery function and operation description). Although it is nice to give a deeper context of a system for the student to relate to, it would be better to leave it out than create an erroneous understanding.

I had to make a note on this. I am studying for my private checkride and your student references the 747 crash in Afghanistan. The first officer was one of my friends. I think about him everytime I fly and especially in stalls.

Dude - A really great training video for the 172! Thank you putting it together, explaining the material so eloquently, and for sharing it with the world outside the original presentation group. To explain how a gyro works to others in a group setting, I take an old computer hard drives and plug it into a usb harddrive dock to spin them up. Once spun up, ask a student to remove a harddrive from the dock and pass it around to the other students. The look in their eyes as they struggle to handle the spinning harddrive is magical as they can feel and see the spinning harddrive's gyroscopic effect and instantly understand how a gyro can help them stabalize and/or orient their aircraft when flying.

The fuel vent main purpose is to allow air to enter fuel tanks, not fuel to escape. The vented caps are secondary to the fuel vent.

Great video! Using it to help me study for my CFI checkride. One small correction- you mention that the fuel vent is to allow for expansion, which is true but not its main purpose. The main purpose of the vent is to allow air into the tanks as fuel is consumed to prevent a vacuum from occurring, which could lead to fuel starvation. The check valve in the vent is there to prevent fuel from coming out, but it does have a small weep hole that allows fuel in if it's submerged to prevent the tanks from pressurizing. Some aircraft also have vented fuel caps in addition to this for redundancy

For day VFR there is no requirement for a manifold pressure gauge for a constant speed prop as you stated. FAR 91.205(b)(8) requires it for "each altitude engine". Section 1.1 defines that as "producible from seal level to an established altitude" which is things like turbocharged engines. That being said its probably not a good idea to fly a constant speed prop without knowing the manifold pressure. Great video. Thank you!
