    Dr Kwon has proved that this is the most efficient and powerful way to swing a golf club. He says trail hip goes back and up and then the lead hip goes back and up. Mr Austin figured this out without Trakman, force plates, super slow motion cameras, fancy software, etc. Pretty amazing when you think about it.

    Tom, thanks for sharing that with all of us. It truly is amazing all of what Austin figured out on his own. He was said to have held a doctorate in kinesiology, but he pursued that after perfecting his swing theory. I think his interest in kinesiology was driven by a desire to better understand why the swing he developed was so efficient and effective. Once again, thank you for your contribution.

    This is an important video, what he says about starting down with his feet is overlooked, he feels like he's raising his trail foot heel and pressuring his lead foot heel into the ground then its an underhand throw into the ball also his compound hip explanation is so powerful for speed. Last he said you can't teach position you teach the swing. I 💯 agree.

    @@yoursimplegolfswingthanks for responding, that’s fair. The De La Torre/Jones method is mostly club-focused, basically treating the club like a tool and showing how to use the tool. Whereas most other instruction is body-focused, teaching body movements. Just wondering if the Mike Austin method is more club-focused or body-focused. I know a lot of people I’ve talked to have really positive things to say about the Mike Austin method. I just can’t seem to find anything on whether it’s body focused or club focused. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated!

  • @yoursimplegolfswing
    @yoursimplegolfswing17 күн бұрын

    The only way you could do 4 to 8 is by turning your hips without the weight shifting into your left side properly. We do a Compound Pivot, not the traditional hip turn. Don’t make the mistake of mixing other teaching methods with this method. There is another instructor out there claiming to teach the Austin method, but in some of his videos he claims Austin was wrong and that Dunaway didn’t know what he was talking about. Austin had a Doctorate in Kinesiology and he was an engineer. Austin was crazy long. I trust his teaching

    This is a really good video, Matt - I think many people try to force that move to 4:00 on the backswing, whereas thinking “3:00” will make the move to 4:00 automatic. And for me, after a little forward press, that hip move to 3:00 is the very first move I make in the golf swing. I don’t start by taking the club back with the hands, arms or shoulders…I let that hip shift to 3:00 sort of drag the club back and “heave” it into the backswing, keeping tension out of my upper body. I’m a believer that tension in the hands, arms and shoulders is the No. 1 killer of the golf swing. I view the arms/club unit as a tension-free pendulum that is powered by the hips and legs. Your discussion here of the lower body is exactly how the motor for that pendulum should work. Well done; I think Mike and Mike would be proud. 👍

  • @yoursimplegolfswing
    @yoursimplegolfswing20 күн бұрын

    There are many different methods for swinging a golf club. I tried most of them in my quest to find an efficient effective and powerful swing that is simple and easy to repeat. This includes stack and tilt, gravity golf, natural golf, and many other methods. The Mike Austin swing is by far superior to all other methods in terms of achieving those things I just mentioned. Many of the other methods contain components of the Austin swing, but none of them contain all of the necessary components.

    Matt, One thing that has always confused me with the start of the downswing is the order of things. Is the firing of the trail hip causing the left heel to slam down or is the left heel slamming down what causes the hip to fire? Which motion should you focus on? Thanks.

  • @yoursimplegolfswing
    @yoursimplegolfswing27 күн бұрын

    Hi Mike, thanks for the question. They are simultaneous actions. You really can’t do one without the other happening. But I do understand that it is easier for some to focus on just one. Personally, I find the concept of slamming the left heel down and straightening, the left knee to be a good trigger. But you must still focus on bringing that right hip around. With training and practice, you will be able to think of all three things, heel down, left leg straighten, right hip fire all at the same time. When you nail that movement, you will find your most explosive distance.

I played shots I really enjoyed, hitting the flagstick chipping and putting so well!! 🤩 I birdied the par 3 hole I have been struggling even to hit for months and months!!! Distance returned without brute force. 😃 I hit an 8 iron from trouble and I still don't know how it went so far, maybe a friendly bounce or helping wind, but I ended up just missing a close birdie putt, but I still had a stroke on the hole! Today I played a coruse that in the past where I was hitting a 5 or 6 iron into the green I’m now hitting 8 irons. I’m driving the ball 250 yards when I used to average 220. I feel like I’m hitting better now than I did 30 years ago (I’m 74). My thought is to push back with the left shoulder and knee until my right leg straightens and the butt of the club is basically pointing at the target while concentrating on keeping loose without muscle tension. I’m getting a big shoulder turn that way. The game has gotten fun again!

    I picked up that knee thing from an old Mike Austin “skeleton” video and it was my missing piece…my “aha” moment. With a totally relaxed upper body, I sort of heave the club into the backswing by straightening my right leg and flexing my left knee out toward the ball. To start the downswing I just reverse it - straighten my left leg and aggressively flex my right knee out and around toward the target, taking my right hip with it. If you can keep your hands, arms and shoulders relaxed during this process, your upper body will pretty much do exactly what it’s supposed to do. I’m 80 years old…if it can work for me, it can work for anyone.
