This is a really good video, Matt - I think many people try to force that move to 4:00 on the backswing, whereas thinking “3:00” will make the move to 4:00 automatic. And for me, after a little forward press, that hip move to 3:00 is the very first move I make in the golf swing. I don’t start by taking the club back with the hands, arms or shoulders…I let that hip shift to 3:00 sort of drag the club back and “heave” it into the backswing, keeping tension out of my upper body. I’m a believer that tension in the hands, arms and shoulders is the No. 1 killer of the golf swing. I view the arms/club unit as a tension-free pendulum that is powered by the hips and legs. Your discussion here of the lower body is exactly how the motor for that pendulum should work. Well done; I think Mike and Mike would be proud. 👍

Like your videos Matt thanks for posting. How would you say the Mike Austin method compares to the Manuel De La Torre/Ernest Jones method? I mean in what ways are they similar/different?

Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. I couldn’t really say how it compares because I am not familiar with their method.

@@yoursimplegolfswingthanks for responding, that’s fair. The De La Torre/Jones method is mostly club-focused, basically treating the club like a tool and showing how to use the tool. Whereas most other instruction is body-focused, teaching body movements. Just wondering if the Mike Austin method is more club-focused or body-focused. I know a lot of people I’ve talked to have really positive things to say about the Mike Austin method. I just can’t seem to find anything on whether it’s body focused or club focused. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated!

@@yoursimplegolfswingStraightening the right knee is simply an incorrect teaching method and can lead to some very bad habits. Transferring weight and rotating the right hip does not equate to straightening the right leg.

@@Blacklabs2000I teach the Mike Austin swing method as taught by Austin and Mike Dunaway. I do not advocate the swing principles of any other method. Mike Austin was the longest driver in history. Mike Dunaway was praised by John Daly, Ken Venturi, Davis Love, Greg Norman, and many others for being the longest and most accurate driver of the golf ball in the world. My students are reporting massive gains in distance and accuracy with this method. If you have the courage to watch the entire video you will see why. If you dive in to all my videos or take my course, you’ll be in shock. Or you can stick to other swing methods not allow yourself to learn something new.
