    So in a nutshell, towing is a pain in the rear and a waste of time towing any further than 100 miles. Got it.

    I am very happy your experience has been satisfactory... Mine has been a nightmare! My original delivery day was April 26th... Then they told me on April 26th 2 hours before scheduled delivery that my car would be scheduled the next Friday, May 3rd... Well, as of today it is May 6th and my car is nowhere to be found. My "Advisor" is not picking up her phone or responding to any communication I have sent. I am completely in limbo and NO ONE at Tesla is communicating with me. Heaven only knows when (or if) my car is even going to become a reality. The "wonderful" online experience of having seamless buying is a JOKE!!! If my dream of owning a Tesla ever does come true, the delivery experience has soured me to where I will have no joy when it comes.

    crazy your car isn't turning on the battery heater. my 23 bolt euv turns it on everytime i highway drive and the battery is cold. even after it being plugged in and prewarmed for 20 minutes even. i wish i could control when it cycled, since it doesn't need to come on when highway driving. the draw itself should warm it. and the battery heater is a separate circuit from the cabin heater. they use the same a/c system though. i'm not sure what temp low is, but the setting above is the lowest i'd go in winter. mine says 17c. i drive with winter tires which i keep at 40 to minimize range drop from them. but i got the size for 16" rims for winter, to minimize loss again. think they are 1 size skinnier, but 2 aspect ratio sizes taller. or 205/60/16 i think to match the 215/50/17 height.

    I just towed the *smallest* U-Haul trailer from the DFW area to Las Vegas, NV, about 1200 miles. Despite the trailer being the smallest available and being very lightly loaded, We saw about the same energy consumption as you did, about 500 to 520Wh/mile. Apart from hitting nearly every charger on the way, the Model Y towed like a dream. Very capable and very stable (we hit some heavy crosswinds in New Mexico and Arizona, and the air off the semis on I-40 tended to blow cars around a bit.) Range and battery level predictions at each recharging stop were spot-on. If the car said we'd be at 3% at the next tsop, we almost always were. Never lower than the prediction, but sometimes higher. When navigating to a charger, the navigation system will tell you what the predicted charge level is and updates that in real-time. Very handy. On one occasion, we were driving 75-80mph and our predicted pwecentage dropped below 5%. The nav system warned us and asked us to slow down. By slowing down, we were able to get the predicted average back up and used that trick througout the trip. We'd also charge and extra 5-10% at each stop to either stretch our drive to another charger, or morre often, drive a little faster to keep up with traffic on I-40. The only blemish was in Flagstaff. Tesla's nav system insisted on routing us to a charger at a Courtyard by Marriott. It's a 12-bay v2 charger with ZERO amenities and was packed every time I was routed there (2 stalls free with several cars en route.) But less than 7 miles away, right off I-40 is a brand new charger at a Circle K. It's got 24 bays, all brand-new v3 chargers. Half are back-in, and half are nose-in and one is pull-through! MUCH better than the one we were routed to. In fact, while we were there, three other cars from the Marriott showedup for faster charging. Almost all the trip was done using Tesla Superchargers. The one exception was Williams, AZ. That was our stay for the night when we visited the Grand Canyon. We had to charge twice there and the only fast-charging option was Electrify America. Fortunately they were working and we got a fast charge there, but it was expensive -- over $0.50/kWh.

    Hang on?did I hear you right? it's going to take 2 hours still to fully charge the Bolt on the Tesla charger even though the Bolt was already at 80% capacity ?

  • @alexkno11
    @alexkno112 ай бұрын

    This product won't work with Tesla Superchargers. The charger in the video is a Tesla Destination charger and it supplies alternating current at the max rate the Bolt can charge on AC (48 amps). At a DC fast charger, the Bolt can do up to 125 amps, but at such a high state of charge you still won't charge much faster than on AC. You generally only fast charge EVs to ~80% because the charge rate drops off quickly as the battery fills up.

    We have that same trailer, and we are getting our first Tesla in a couple weeks. The Tesla will have the tow hitch. Are you saying the 7-pin will work with the electric trailer brakes without any modifications? Or do you also need to get a Brake Controller installed, so you can adjust the gain?

    Just stumbled upon your video! It's directly relevant to my camper and prospective Tesla purchase. I have an Aliner Ranger 12 that would be towed by any Model Y I got. That’s a 1600 lb dry trailer. Our current tow vehicle needs refueling every 170-200 miles doing 65 mph. Those always entail at least a 15 minute stop for stretching and snacks, so this wouldn't be too much different from what we do now. Thanks for the informative video!

    I don't supposed you've done this with a Mac? I've tried watching multiple videos but can't seem to be able to put everything on one drive (most of the time the car doesn't see anything. I've been able to do just LightShow on a drive and that worked, but no go on multiple drives on partitions.

    looks like the trailer can wiegh between 2000lb and 3000lb depending on how much stuff you take with it. Model Y should be good for a 3000lb trailer. It'd be interesting to see if the % changes in energy consumption is matched by the same changes in mpg for an ICE car on tghe same route.

    Unlock door using key. Press home-installed glow plug button 20 seconds to preheat chambers. Turn key to START firing preheated cylinders instantly. Run diesel a minute before pulling out of parking place. No recharge necessary as 115 amp alternator recharges battery and runs all loads, including heater water pump. Heater fan comes on heating cabin in 2 blocks. As cabin warms to toasty 80F, climate control lowers fan speed and mixes fresh air to keep from roasting us.... Recharge fuel oil next week if it gets low.

    In the beginning he is pulling 6 KW solely for the heating system, not charging at all because charging at these low temps would lead to massive degradation. This is also why Tesla's take so long to go from 99-100%. Tesla actually takes care of your Battery, while other brands just recklessly pump voltage into theirs. Looks impressive when it loads with 20kw at 99%, while actually just kills your battery for meaningless speed on paper.

Instant Range uses only the latest few data points to estimate the projected range. Something that would help slow charging infrastructure would be if they used 240V or something better instead of the anciant 120V. Just plugging in while at work would give a pretty decent charge.

    Couldn't agree more. Europe did it right! With the 12 gauge THHN wiring found in most newer homes, it's easy to convert an outlet with a dedicated circuit to 240V by simply upgrading the breaker.

    I would love to see a comparison with a Tesla plugged in overnight vs an ICE car after a snow storm. Are the windows clear of snow and ice or do you need to scrape, I live in Anaheim Ca and we see snow one a century unless you look up at the local mountains (Big Bear) when they measure in feet not inches of snow.

  • @alexkno11
    @alexkno114 ай бұрын

    The car will still be covered in snow and can require defrosting when parked outside. But it's easy to initiate these things from the app. If Sentry mode is on, the area around the front camera will melt the ice so the camera can see.
