the 6.5 creedmor is just one of the latest moves by the gun industry to get people to buy new guns that are built cheaper. the 6.5 creedmor does actually nothing any better than cartridges whose roots were planted in the 1910s and 1920s. just a way to separate more money from your wallet. the marketing of new cartridges and "premium" loadings has contributed as much as anything to the massive ammo shortage that has been going on for over a decade. The big rifle makers push out inferior rifle lines to save money and to make money at the consumers expense. They convince consumers that their crappy rifle lines are as good as the ones they built their companies on. Its like trying to convince people that your basic can opener is not different than the ones built in the last half of the 20th century, when in fact if you had a can opener made in the 70s it would still work today while one bought in the modern era might last you a year if even that.

The 7mm prc is just another over hyped cartridge. Like Randy Selby says, you need more case capacity or much higher pressures to produce high velocities. The 7 prc has neither over the 7mm rem mag. It's really simple math. The only newer cartridges that really impressed me were the WSM and WSSM family of cartridges. I have several 25 wssms, and they really do something that the prc family of cartridges don't do. The 25 produces almost identical velocity to the old 25/06 in a 223 length cartridge. It will handle 65,000 psi all day long, which is how it replicates 25/06 velocities using around 8-10 less grains of powder. Great cartridge in a real handy little rifle. To me, the 7 prc is like the 6.5 creedmoor to 260 remington comparison. There was never anything wrong with the 260 it just didn't come out at the right time. It's slightly faster than the creedmoor, more case capacity. Simple math.
