    Thank you for the video sir. Very impressive! How much does your plate weigh? I'm eyeing the Tacticon lvl 4 6lb multi-curve plate but also debating between that or buying their SRT+ 4.1lb just for affordability and weight. I don't expect to get shot with 30.06 defending my home but am concerned about the m80 green tip in SHTF in a mountainous/urban environment. Wonder if I minus well just break the bank, save up, and buy lvl 4s just to have it but my concern is also its weight. I'm trying to get my plate carrier to weigh about the same as grunts/SOCOM guys or at least a reasonable weight to carry under possible 80-100-degree F heat. Based on what I've read, it looks like people's carrier setup ranges from 15 to 30 lbs. Any thoughts or recommendations?

    Tactical competitive shooting forces you to weigh your plate carrier at 22 pounds so that's probably a good spot for a plate carrier weight but of course lighter is better.

    Most properly manufactured standalone plates shouldn’t need a trauma pad at all unless the need for the trauma pad it implies the plate is underbuilt or mislabeled to be standalone when it should be ICW. Curious what that pad is made of though. PE or aramid material or just simply foam padding?

    I agree my cheap solution (for CQB anyway) to defeating level 4 armor was through shear blunt force trauma with a 12 gauge magnum slug. I wish someone would trust 3 inch slugs especially the brenneke black magic against hard armor and clay behind it

  • @AlaskanBallistics

    @AlaskanBallistics

    20 күн бұрын

    Easily level IV armor would stop that. Most 3A pistol rated armor stops slugs. I don't think the backface deformation would be even half as significant as the .300 win mag loads used here.

    @@AlaskanBallistics whooteewhoo channel tested magnum hard cast slugs against a level 4 and the backface deformation was massive like 2 inches , however I did more research and the way he had the plate held with nothing backing it can exacerbate backface deformation so that test would in theory incorrectly show true backface amount if it was up against a body because of different force distribution.

  • @user-oy9zy4ds9m

    @@AlaskanBallistics black magic magnum slugs actually have more momentum than 300 win mag and even some 338 lapua loads. I did research and momentum can contribute more to backface deformation than kinetic energy because momentum is more efficient energy transfer lol 🤷‍♂. Stuff is a bit over my head I’m no physicist 😂

  • @user-oy9zy4ds9m

    @user-oy9zy4ds9m

    Basically a lot of kinetic energy transfers into thermal energy upon impact so heavier slower projectiles with less kinetic energy but more momentum can cause more blunt trauma because the ceramic easily absorbs the thermal energy

  • @AlaskanBallistics

    Good reason for trauma pads. So the .22-250 cartridge is a very fast 22 caliber with a casing that is larger than .223rem and based on the old 250 savage cartridge. Or was very popular with groundhog hunters as it shoots a bullet so fast that the drop isn't bad and the wind doesn't have time to catch up to it out to 300 yards. I've got a video with exclusively different .22-250 loads testing against armor. Here's the link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5ye1amFo6etacY.htmlsi=3iUcIna04AbDNl5r So a 5.56 nato out of a 20-inch ar15 sends a 62gr bullet at a max of a 3150. This .22-250 is sending the same bullet 3620. I've got 40gr bullets at over 4200 fps. Either of those will be like a hot knife through butter on your ar600 armor. But you don't really have to worry about it, only us rednecks with reloading benches will have that. Also with ar600 steel, the bullet splatter can be potentially lethal, cover it with a soft 3a pistol armor and glue/epoxy it on really well. I've got links to botach who has a really cheap (but works) 3a pistol armor for like 60 something bucks.

    Buyer beware!! Ordered my set of plates and trauma pads on the 2nd of April. After doing many hours of research I ordered from Tacticon. They seemed reputable and knowledgeable. I still haven’t received them. USPS priority is garbage. So far no one knows where my order is. Called Tacticon and they basically told me if you didn’t ”buy the insurance” there’s nothing we can do for you. I receive packages from Europe and Asia without an issue. But I guess USPS priority shipping is a joke. Meanwhile I’m out the money I paid for this order. I didn’t take the insurance because I didn’t order ceramic plates. Figured they can’t break the ar600 steal plates. Needless to say I’ll never buy from Tacticon again. Customer service is garbage. They would even try on their end to find out from usps where the package is.
