I'm so sick of people thinking they have the right to criticize one of the greatest people to ever strap on a guitar!!! Stfu

IT'S CALLED HEROIN!! Page played better live between 1969-73 because he was not a heroin addict yet.

I appreciate the distinction this video makes of Jimmy's playing. Being a guitarist, since the age of 12 and a Zep fan even earlier, I've always been bothered by naysayer comments on Jimmy's playing and the troves of people who repeated it. Anyone can have an off night, especially when you're in the middle of a tornado the size of Zeppelin. But 1973 and prior, Jimmy was an absolute master. Faster, more versatile using more stylistic approaches, and just more original than anyone before or at that time. By 1975, lifestyle choices and age started to catch up, and although there where still occasional breathtaking moments, there was a lot more of what happened and what could have been. In fact, he was never able to duplicate the early 70s ability.

In fairness, he was sloppy. probably due to all the drugs in his system. In studio, and while sober, is where he was really good.

As a sloppy guitarist, the same songs played the same way gets boring. Its a lot more fun to improvise instead of note for note, especially if you're high. Cant blame one of the best of all time for living like a rockstar and having fun.

As a composer, he's an absolute legend and created some of the most iconic songs ever. However, as a lead guitarist, he is overrated and sloppy. Especially during his heroin years 75-79.

I was driving a cab in the 70s and a passenger said he was going to drum clinic put on by Ginger Baker. It was a small music store and there was a small group of drummers waiting for Baker to show. I parked the cab just to see what this was about. Baker came with the owner and was a great guy. None of his reputation. Super kind and helpful to all the musicians. Great memory.
