THIS IS WONDERFUL!!! I am going to make an alternate Sgt CD like this but they only thing I would change is to use the Rarities version of Penny Lane since is the stereo version with the trumpet tagged in at the end. Thank for the inspiration!

Producer George Martin said leaving Penny Lane /Strawberry Fields off Sgt Pepper album was a big regret and John was disappointed not to have SF on the album .They would have fitted in perfectly to the continuity and theme of the album and could have replaced, when im 64 / within you without you ,which could have been released as a double sided single

Yes, sort of. To make it fit they would have had to drop a sign from each side. The 2 weakest tracks were "getting better" and "lovely Rita." Ding those 2 and you've for a great album.

I never thought much of Penny Lane, seems a throw a way track. Strawberry fields top notch though. So if those two were added to Sgt Pepper I would be a bit mixed on it.

I do think you've hit on the best way to stitch them in after the fact, but we'll unfortunately never know how knowing they'd be on the album from early on in its creation would've effected the style of other songs.

Strawberry Fields w/ When I’m sixty Four should have been the single and Penny Lane should go where When I’m 64 is, it works perfectly. Also I would have liked Paul to have held back and waited for George Martin to be free to orchestrate She’s Leaving Home from the beginning. Still it’s my favourite album of all time and therefore can’t complain too much.

I've always thought that Sgt. Pepper (including "Strawberry Fields" and "Penny Lane") and Abbey Road feel like they could go together as a double album, in terms of the production style and the diversity of song styles. Most of the songs from Magical Mystery Tour would fit pretty well in this lineup too...could almost be a triple album! Anyone have any ideas of what track order could work on such a double or triple album?
