  Los ojos tristes de Vivian...Yo recuerdo haber leído que en su infancia fue muy desgraciada. Sus padres la dejaron en un colegio de monjas durante muchos años y a una edad muy temprana. Pero lo peor fue que durante todos esos años no la visitaron. Este hecho tan significativo, de ser cierto, ya nos puede dar una idea de muchas cosas.

  "Anna Karenina" bellissime scene di film dei tempi passati con bravissimi attori che ci hanno lasciati anni or sono. Non capisco perché queste pellicole le tengono segregate negli Archivi di tutto il mondo, quando potremmo usufruirne carpendone la loro grandre ricchezza per cambiare questo mondo così tanto frivolo e insignificante. Preferiamo la mediocrità a questi grandi capolavori.

  So-Called "Deborah Kerr" wasn't even her real name. She was born Deborah Jane Trimmer. She obviously sold-out her birth name to the greedy & deceitful music business moguls and with anticipation of greater recognition & money. It also implies parental & heritage disrespect.

  Leigh is superior! Garbo is wooden, affected and mannered. The Vronski in the Leigh is excellent - all boyish charm and passion. The V in the Garbo is a charmless tool. The Karenins in both versions are superb - Richardson and Rathbone. Must watch the Garbo again for Basil Rathbone - a particularly sinister K.

  Both Vivian (age 35 in 1948) and Greta (Age 30 in 1935) played their role as Ana to perfection. Imo: Vivian's interpretation has more of a sense of vulnerability and girlishness than Greta's interpretation; which I find more melancholic and jaded. This may have something to do with the direction and the era as well as with the two women's style of acting in the films.
