Beautiful explanation. What is relationship between the mouthpiece and stopper. I dont seem to see much difference on my flute in frequency.
@VindyDays7 сағат бұрын
You mean, what is the impact of the distance between the blowing hole and the stopper cork on the pitch of the flute? Position of the blowing hole has an impact on the pitch of the flute. Position of the cork also has an impact on the pitch of the flute. But the cork position seems to have less impact. I don’t know the precise relationship. But I do know that flute makers adjust the cork position to fine tune the flute. Usually they finalize it by gluing it. Maybe, a flute maker following this thread can throw some light on this.

@VindyDays4 күн бұрын
Most ethnic Indian woodwind instruments are open holed. As you close or open a hole they transition gradually from one note to another. WARBL is open hole instrument emulator. It mimics these open holed instruments well. As far as I know, WARBL is the only one that emulates open holed instruments. I haven’t tried artinoise re.corder. But from the videos, I can tell that it wouldn’t come close to mimicking open holed instrument transitions. That’s the key differentiator for me.

Then when to use regular pa hole 🤔
@VindyDaysАй бұрын
No hard and fast rules. Depends on which of those two options is easier in a given passage. Typically, when Ma to Pa or Pa to Ma transition does not involve meend or gamak, it is easier to use the regular Pa. Also regular Pa to Dha1 transition is easier than the thumb Pa to Dha1.

Many keyed wood wind instruments like sax, Oboe, flute have this concept of multiple fingerings for the same note. Player chooses the one that best suits the situation.

Sir why does Flute makers say G base is tuned at 440hz but when tested it comes down to 396hz
@VindyDaysАй бұрын
I presume when you test, you find G to be 396Hz. When they say ‘tuned to 440Hz’, they mean A is set to 440 Hz. That is the standard. When A is set to 440 Hz, G should be 392 Hz. Your measurement says 396, and the difference is negligible. The difference could be a testing error. Even if it is the making error, it is really minor and negligible.

This instrument can detect half holing and gradual closing of a note hole and respond. However, my experience with this instrument is that half holing is unreliable. The designers did not put much emphasis on half holing accuracy, I believe. You can still make it work with some effort. But, unreliable. I believe a different version of this instrument should be made with focus on half holing accuracy.
