In 12-note equal temperament every octave is double the frequency of the previous octave (exponential growth of 2). There are 12 pitches in an octave evenly distributed multiplicatively (not linearly). Therefore note frequency grows by multiplying the previous note by exactly the twelfth root of 2 ([2^(1/12) ] ~= 1.0595 (the 5.95% you derive numerically).

Making a good flute is a fine art and skill. Measurements are available. But it takes a lot of experience to get everything right. A lot of material gets wasted before you reach perfection. A straight flute or penny whistle has the same fingering as a regular flute. A Recorder has different fingering and I don’t know the nuances of it.
