Thank you docteur, so interesting, but one information to adjust..you mean the occupied Palestine not I S R A E l .. because I S R A E L didn't exist decades ago.. Palestine does as its Jesus's born country. Just wanted to correct the information.
Hm, thanks for sharing. I’m not sure what this has to do with the information in this video, but thanks for your view!
Thanks mam ❤
Is there a tuna salad recipe that fits well with the Mediterranean diet? Thanks
My strategy is simple: I don't buy fresh produce unless it says "Hello!" to me. LOL
I grind up walnuts and sprinkle in oatmeal or other cereal and in yogurt, fruit mixture. Sometimes I make a mixture of walnuts, almonds and raisins and eat as a snack.
Too long by 8-9 minutes, at least.
Thanks for your view!
Guacamole for a healthy dip as well.
Yes, absolutely true!
That part of the video showing yogurt looked like it had chia seeds on them. Chia seeds - what a super food ❤❤ . When you were in Italy, did you find the Italians incorporating chia seeds in their cuisine? Just curious. Another great short.. thank you❤❤❤
You are correct - those are chia seeds! In Italy, they have health food stores where you can find those things certainly. Lots of Italian cooking includes nuts like pistachios, almonds or pecans I found more often than seeds. Other parts of the Mediterranean incorporate lots of sesame seed in the whole form or as tahini. So it just depends!
Don't forget salsa.
Oh yes good one!!!
😊😊
Glad you liked it!
Eating pistachios as I watch this!
Love that!!
Can you make printable version of your recipes? I like to have them on hand when needed.
I am working on these! I hope to be rolling them out in the coming weeks, and not just recipes but full food guides and grocery lists :)
I like to sprinkle chia seeds on my peanut butter toast....
Awesome! That’s a good one
All of these tips is exactly how I prepare for the grocery store. I did not know the “bonus” tip though. I will start doing that! Thank you!💕
Glad it was helpful!
Any suggestion for an avacado alternative? I'm allergic...
Great question! If you want something plant-based, hummus, nut butters, or good old olive oil will all still have that creamy texture. If you can eat dairy, ricotta is pretty spreadable and has a good bit of protein too! Then there are other tasty but slightly less healthy options like cream cheese or soft cheeses like chèvre (goat) cheese
Do they eat meat in the Mediterranean?
Sure do!
I kove making an egg bake, lots of veggies ( i get precut veggie hash from trator joes) spinach, mushrooms, cheeses such as cheddar, colby, gyer , Gouda, parmasean/ pecarino romano, and cream....olive oil...i bake this on sunday and eat it tgrough the week. I started eating and an apple too for Fruit and fiber...should i add toast with peanut butter? I eat daves power seed bread and Costco 's real peanut butter On a qick day i will have greek yogurt, fruit, and a few cashews
Sounds great!
Shakshoka is an Egyptian recipe. please check your facts .
According to many of your fellow viewers, they have told me it’s from Lebanon, Turkey, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Ottoman Empire, Palestine, and Jordan. So I am not sure if there is a specific origin 😅. But the great news is it’s healthy and very Mediterranean!
Hey Dr. Anna,,,, I just found your channel and so far love it because my wife and I were toying with the idea to go Mediterranean Diet to control blood sugar ... thank YOu
Wow I’m so glad you’re enjoying the channel content! Thanks for being here - glad to have you both!
I'd like your opinion. What Sea Salt do you use? I use Tuscanini Coarse Mediterranean Sea Salt from Sicily (I add to my grinder). Many swear by Real Salt brand or Himalayan Pink Salt. I use to use Celtic gray course sea salt. Just wondering what you use and if you think the brand I use is okay. I buy from Amazon..
I think they are all good! And I particularly love Real Salt. But I will often buy Italian sea salt from the Med to keep in my kitchen too.
Why would anyone listen to a medical doctor when you guys have very little nutrition training?
Good question, and I happen to be an atypical medical doctor, since I also have a uni degree in nutrition and dietetics
@@annapleetmd what would you tell someone with short bowel syndrome to eat?
I always have a Greek salad with tomatoes, olives and cucumber in the fridge. When I need a snack...I grab a fork.
Delicious!
We add beans or chickpeas to our salads to turn them into a main dish.
Fabulous! Isn’t it so simple?
I made a quinoa bowl yesterday with all the stuff I had to use up. It was actually pretty good.🥰 I’ll try bean dip this week. With warm weather I’m eating more snacks.
Thats awesome, way to go!
Did u add any seasoning to it? Salt etc ?
Sometimes! But I will often just add some salt and cracked black pepper, or some herbs, nothing fancy
Desert should be fun, not healthy.
Exactly, healthy doesn’t mean not fun!
A little correction: zucchini does not belong to the nightshade family.
Thank you for this! I learn so much from all of you :)
please activate the Greek language as well
Done! Never knew I could do that - thank you!
Thank you for this video and the abundance of information. I’ve been struggling for years going between the vegan diet and keto diet. It’s been my worst nightmare. I believe I’ve found the answer thanks to your videos. I was overthinking this entirely and I see how well balanced the Mediterranean’s way of eating is & beneficial. You’re cutting out all of the bad stuff and eating more clean. It’s also a way of living so I will remove the word diet because to me it is a lifestyle. Thanks again.
I couldn’t have said it better myself! Thanks for being here - I’m an glad you’re getting use out of the content. It’s definitely a journey. We are here to support each other along the way
Love eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms. They are SO Good !!
Right!!!! The flavors!!!
If you’re new here, Dr Anna is a gem. Stick around, and you will learn a lot, like I continue to do!
Aw shucks! Thank you so much for your support - I'm thrilled the info is useful for you!
Great information mam...❤thank u
absolutely my pleasure! Thanks for tuning in :)
I had Mediterranean mince tonight, before watching the football game and it included cherry tomatoes, red capsicum, with cucumber, red lettuce and feta in wraps this evening and I feel proud as a beginner that I can provide my family healthier food. Thanks for helping us get there.
That sounds wonderful! Thanks for sharing with us :)
People have moved on, its now animal protein and animal fats
Hey there! Thanks for your thoughts. Im actually not advocating for “this or that” - it’s all about both in the right balance. Plus, it’s what health research suggests. Just passing it along
Thank you Anna. ❤
You’re so welcome!
As a Mediterranean we eat a lot of meat and seafood....
You bet!
What is your opinion of avocado oil?
It’s great! Not really flavorful so I personally don’t use it as a salad dressing, but I love it for high heat cooking. Price can be a barrier for some
What about potatoes?
Good question! Potatoes are not all alike, both in the variety and the cooking method. For example, a French fry is very different than a baked potato! I think potatoes can be okay in the diet considered as a starch as opposed a vegetable. They shouldn’t replace other veggies but can definitely be a nice addition to meals.
@@annapleetmd Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏾
You are so welcome!
I normally eat bread. I don' t k ow what to buy
Sprint. I am not a read eater.
Recommend a bread for me
Great question!!! It depends on your taste, but any bread that has whole grains or sprouted grains are great. Some folks also love sourdough or rye too. Just check how much added sugar is in there!
Eggs, avocado and something green
Fabulous!
Dark leafy greens have oxalates, no?
This does not make them unhealthy ! It’s sad there’s so much misinformation out there on this topic. Our body has the ability to handle these compounds when eaten as part of a healthy diet. And there are many many many other important nutrients in leafy greens besides oxalates. Benefit far outweighs the risks for most folks
Thank you so much for these tips! I was going to message you recently regarding inflammation. I’ve been on the Mediterranean lifestyle for 7 months. Within the last 4 months I’ve been experiencing inflammation of different muscles. I started to wonder 🤔 if I’m eating too much of something. The foods you mentioned I eat 3 times a day. I will increase these particular foods in my meals to see if the inflammation elevates. 💕
Hi there, good question and thanks for the comment. This would definitely be something to discuss with your physician, and perhaps get some bloodwork done if you’re due for it!
I love to make smoothies. I do large batches and put them in mason jars, then freeze them. I pull one out the night before and set it in the fridge so it has time to thaw out. I like to use frozen berry blend (raspberry, blueberry and strawberry), banana, a little peanut butter, avocado, oats and for liquid I will either add some type of lactose free milk or premier protein shake. After watching this video I plan to start adding some flax or chia seeds as well.
Love that freezer idea! That is so helpful when short on time ☺️ thanks for sharing with us :)
Thank you for great teachings. Can you direct me to great Mediterranean cook book please.
You’re so welcome!! I’m thrilled you like the content. I usually refer people to The Mediterranean Dish - she has both a wonderful social media presence and a website, in addition to her physical cookbook. @TheMediterraneanDish
Where can I find the recipe
I did not write it all down, but I certainly can! I’ll add to the description - thanks for the suggestion :)
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you liked it!!
I’m guilty of oil in the water. I still do it. Yes, oil and water separate but I believe that the oil sticks to the pasta. I will continue to add it. Maybe the Italians haven’t considered trying it. 💕
