What its like being a working Boat Captain
Over the years we have expanded into a diverse operation of all thing yachting. I have taken the last 20 plus years of my boating/yachting experience and built a business with many facets. Yes, we do harbor tours and charters of all kinds. We are a five star charter company catering to private groups looking for an experience and not just a boat ride. We cater to bachelorette parties, Bachelor parties, corporate outings and provide the perfect venue and backdrop for that perfect marriage proposal. Carolina Marine Group is also you first choice for yacht management in the Charleston. We also provide yacht deliveries throughout the US and beyond. We try to keep most projects in house to provide the best service and the best price. If we can't take on a project we can manage it to insure on time delivery and cost control. We love what we do, This page is dedicated to the day to day repairs and maintenance that go into owning and managing yachts. Thanks for watching and subscribe!

RIP old girl.
Thank you! And thanks for watching. 😊
Nice work! Appreciate the troubleshooting tips!
Beautiful vessel
You're a skilled Captain sir. Enjoyed the ride!
@@Matthew-wn8oq thank you! I promise I will be doing some docking videos to share some of my knowledge and tips
Thank you for the great content!
@@AD-bt3wv thank you so much for watching!
The pump and tank all enclosed in the Steering wheel Hub (I Think) made by seastar
@@IamSpectre2020 yes you are right! Very surprising on a 48’ boat. But there it was… just the fill on the helm. Only like 2 qts in the entire system.
Captain Dave is a golden GOD that will never be stopped!! Love Matts guest starring,,, you lads are mad
@@GabrielRussell-sw2dy thank you my friend!! See you on the water. Hopefully on a trip!
I think Azimuts suck, and I bet even you cant stand up in there engine room.. sorry would need more info on how that system works, seem as the electrical part is calling for the thruster to engage , but seeing its a newer M T U its probably hooked up to a computer :) good luck
Im not a fan either lol Friends don't let friends buy Azimuts lol
Do you have anyone in New Jersey that can do this work?
I don’t specifically have anybody in New Jersey, but feel free to call me and I can try try and diagnose it for you and then help you work through the issue issue
Slow down your camera panning! You’re making me want to throw up!
Sorry for making you through up. 😊
Not great....no shot of where the impeller is located..
hey how did you solved the problem with oil entering the turbo from the valve cover vent? i have a pair of john deeres that are doing the same thing and at least 3 times a year i have to clean the aftercoolers because they are constantly being clogged
More than likely it’s coming from your turbo. How old are the engines? How many hrs and how many RPMS do you run them at?
@@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston good morning, thanks for responding. I'm not the owner of the boat, I'm a junior mechanic who has been doing work for the company. The boats are work boats and they have plenty hours. According to the guy I work for who is the lead mechanic these motors has always been doing that even before I was hired. The oil is coming from the engine vent. At 2100 rpm and higher, you can see engine oil coming from the vent filter These motors runs fine as long as the aftercoolers are clean.
@@steelblackface I would take a look at the turbo if your air cooler is getting clogged with oil first 😃also if they are not running them up to proper rpm that will also cause excessive build up in the coolers. Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting
What a nightmare! Great job Captain.
Thank you!
I thought all hynautic took MiL-H-5606A aviation hyd fluid (red)?
No! 50/50 glycol with no additives. Or you can use the expensive Hynautic stuff. Most people use the 50/50. 😃 other systems do use the red hydro fluid but not this.
Sounded like a piggy back filled with coins Captain.
😂🤣pretty much!!! Wow it was filled!
Even on a big Fleming, I would be terrified beyond belief!
You get used to it. Lol. Thanks for watching!!
@@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston I’d love the chance to get used to it! AND, you have two engines! My favorite of all owner/operator yachts 💕
Yes great boat! I think I have an engine room tour if you want to look that up. 😃
Is that Captain Heath working ??? Woah !! ❤
This is a working sailboat, we all have jobs to do😂🤣 no matter what your status is😂😂😂
I’m so proud of you motor boaters. 😂😂
😂😂🤣hay! We can do sail. And we go all in! Tall ships? Who does that!?😂
Fantastic install and nice choice on the pattern, color could be a little light but hopefully stays clean.
Thank you! It was pretty easy.. I have done my 36 Hat 3 times already. And if everyone follows the rules of no shoes the color should be fine. 😂😂 I just did not want to make it to dark and make the room look small
Carver?
Yes 40 something, foot Carver
Looks good as new! How much do you want for that injector Captain?😂
I just put it all back together again with flexseal and polished the tip. So I’ll probably looking for full price. I know what I got so don’t lowball me.😂🤣🤣🤣
@@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston😂
I mite have missed, what's the beam, & draft & height, didn't see a contact info 😊
I think the beam is around 18 draft is about 4 1/2 and I would have to check the height probably around 18 feet for rough numbers for you
Weld something to put the slide hammer on….? Sparkle wrench? Cant be tight if it’s a Liquid… Ice it, freeze the plug, and shrink it while Heating the block. Looks like a bitch.
All good thoughts, we tried slide hammers with a vice grip on it pipe wrenches heat anything I could think of I finally got the top out, and the bottom casing was welded to the head. I had to use a cold chisel and a screwdriver and lube. pride off the side and destroy it and then used a three-quarter inch out to get the bottom out of it. I will post a quick video of that, it took me two days to get the thing out. Unbelievable. But I got it up and running about half an hour before Charter. Both engines have been condemned by Cummins but I was able to get them to work for Charter.
@@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston hell yeah buddy, just in time eh? As long as the old girl got out and made them ducats its all groovy then right? I look forward to seeing more content from ya!
You got it!!! Brought them back from the dead!!! 😂🤣
Purchased the same exact water tank should be in next week I’ll do a full video of what the result is. I’m going to try and just get the tank out leave the casing there and then redo the insulation and hopefully slide the new tank and its place. Worst case scenario, I’ve got a rip out that entire tank by destroying it, and then put the new water tank in the bilge along the centerlineand plumb and rewire both hot and cold but I’ll be doing full video next week
That's putting a positive spin on the worst feeling ever when you snap that sucker off and know what it's gonna take to get it out.
Well that very true! But I guess in this instance, I had another Macanic that snapped them off and just wanted to buy a new housing so within a half an hour I got both of them out. Well I got one out and the other one I had to tap.. saved $1000
Oh...😮
Great to hear your shoutout to Western Branch, Andy there is very helpful and has helped me greatly with parts for my DD 6v92tt engines!
They still can pull through!! lol
It was a mid or late 1970s Bertram 68. I think to completely re-wire that boat would cost as much as buying another one that didn't sink. I think everything was shot except the engines and generators which were pickled. The owner said the wiring was fine but I wasn't convinced. He didn't have a problem selling it in a matter of two weeks, which was faster than most boats that go on the market. Boat was sold for 175k last year and he was asking 49k..
That’s amazing. But I think you dodged a bullet anyway. All of the electrical definitely probably would’ve had to get done. I’m sure some of the stringers got wet floor got wet not worth the effort. Were you able to get anything else?
Looks awesome! The Hatteras 61 is such an awesome boat
Thank you so much it was well overdue to replace it and yeah it’s a great set up
Welcome to the real world buddy 😂
🤣🤣😂man that makes me feel good. You should be a therapist. 🤣😂
Cut the tank buy a blader and dont worry about it.
We try and replace everything to original standards and manufacturer specs, to keep the value of the boat, the same. If we start cutting corners that will devalue the boat and they may start looking at what else was cut or done on the cheep.
@@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston yea I can appreciate that.
Why did it sink?
Broke free in a storm. We lost several that night. Very sad. This was a hand build wood boat. They were going to travel all over with it. Dreams on hold now…
Can you cut it out and just put a smaller one in its place that fits?
We thought about that. It’s only 11 gal now. You also have to think about resale and what someone else is going to think. If we cheep out or do it the seat way, a potential buyer may not like the idea of 1/2 the original volume. That may be a deal breaker. So we always try and keep original manufacture standards unless we are upgrading and making it better.
What's wrong with it in the first place all the parts are serviceable unless someone didn't drain it before winter and it split. So why aren't you saying how hard they are to work on. I had a 390 searay express I used to work on and it was like your boat. But this one had 454 merc's even a little tighter.
The boat is in Charleston. So no winterization. The I think the tank has split. You physically can not get to the unit. And I’m 5’2”. lol. Stay tuned for the removal. lol
B.O.A.T = Break Out Another Thousand $
Several now for inflation. 😃
They know only people who buys these are people who have more money than brains. When the majority of your customers are mindless douchebags, these sort of inconveniences are not an issue.
"Built a water tank around the around the boat, should that be the other way round. Water is heavy, and the designer's work by weight distribution, be careful where you put the tank it might cause the yacht to list. They also built the yacht around the engine. Designers dont worry about maintenance, they design.
Moving 213 pounds from outboard of the engine to amidship isn't going to make any difference. That's only slightly more than what most adult males weigh.
@@PikachuG5 what, full of water?
Very god call I have done navel architecture. So I would like to put it back in the same spot. Centerline in the next best thing. I’m going to do a vid on the replacement. So stay tuned for the cursing. 🤣😂.
You mean they built the boat around the water tank. See if they build a water tank around a boat that would suggest you have easy access to the water tank because it’s on the outside of the boat.
Technically the boat was built to be put inside a water tank
🤣🤣😂 very astute. And true. It would be much easier that was as well. I would not be in this predicament. 😂😂
Well, it’s job security. Need a new water tank? Buy a new boat. 😎👍
Always the logical solution 🤣😂time for an upgrade.
I was on a 21' Bayliner Trophy. Trophy went to the salesman. But it was a good boat.
My buddy wanted by a boat shop and have me run it....i told him absolutely not.
🤣🤣😂keep your ideas! Actually it’s not a bad job. It’s just amazing that they don’t think when they build this stuff
Yachts name is "Next guys problem"
Can’t see it from my house is also acceptable
Get a bladder for it....
The first thing I thought of too.
Exactly. What is so wrong with the current tank that it cannot be fixed?
It has a hole in it. And a bladder would be last resort. We try and keep our boats to original standards and equipment.
@@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston That's respectable. Been there, done that. Any details? I may offer some suggestions based on my experience. Most recent was swapping a 4 cyl Diesel for Electric in a 37' Irwin. Worked Intrepid, Sovereign, Duckworth Steel Boats, lots of private stuff.
Grab a shrink wrench
What will you do when the engine needs replacing?
Well, hopefully that’s not for a very long time and when that time comes more than likely, we will have to cut out the entire deck and use a boom crane to go through the back and haul the engines out. The engines are definitely oversized for that boat, but even if they were smaller engines, there’s no physical way to get them out.so yes, even that was poor design. They should’ve made access hatches on either side to get access to the outboard side of the engines.
You see this Engineering on the highways in Houston all the time. Someone should find these engineers and declaw them.
Berber?
Wool. Apparently the best stuff to use on a boat. Also the most expensive. And I believe it’s a low pile wool carpet.
Awesome!! Nice Peter, Sharon and Cupcake. ❤
I love that this is such a small trawler community that you know who’s boat I was on lol. And yes, they did a great job. Wonderful people and learn very quickly.
Glad it’s not just me that runs into these issues!
😅😅well I’m glad I have company! Wait till you see the Sailboat I’m working on Next. You’ve got to be kidding me lol.
If the pump is bad anyway, bust it up into a coulle peices
The problem is replacing the pump, can't break that into a couple pieces before fixing it in lol.
Very true! It only took me 4 hrs to change out 3 wires. 🤣😂😂🤷♂️
God bless you sweetheart 😂😂😂😂
😂😂thank you. I feel better now. 🤣😂
