As a new player, it makes no sense for me to see the Old World as viable. GW doesn't seem to care about it and will likely pull the plug as soon as possible leaving me holding an empty bag
Bloody awesome! I love seen custom terrain it’s look great
I really like your idea of mixing 10mm and 28m (for strategic and tactical portions of) games into one giant scenario for Helm's Deep in your case. I have considered doing the same thing, with BattleTech where we have a club member with micro scale figures, while I have loads of old 25mm plastic models and old GW 40k minis. Part of the scenario would hinge on RPG type details you'd need to solve and fight out in 25mm, but to get there you'd need to get your units into tactical range using the standard rules. This concept should work will with fantasy scenarios as well, but with future SiFi minis, the super long ranges of weapons make tiny scales much more realistic for fighting out the basic battle.
Where's the base from? It's really nice
It’s a 3d printed one, can’t remember where I got the files from, pretty sure MyMiniFactory.
The Rat Ogres look great for Old World and another tutuorial for me to archive. I still have a new Island of Blood Box to break open when High Elves hit. Looking forward to this Skavenslayer project!
That Island of Blood set was amazing!
Mate absolutely great tutorial! Thanks a lot! 🙏🏼♥️
Thank you 🙂
Great vid as always!
Thank you 🙂
Yes-yes new skaven for the best game!
They’re lovely models, loads of fun to paint.
The heritage of WHAP, gw is just too daft to understand their own product.
They certainly seem to make some silly mistakes
Just got the huuuuge starter box that a friend an me are sharing, (im paintin it all as im a mad lad) and watchin your videos has been great inspiration! Thank you!
Best of luck working through the big box!
I had just gotten started with airbrushing within the last month and absolutely love it. Bought the .3 Mobius about 3 days after starting. Amazon had a 20% off code and I had some gift card that covered the rest. I was thinking about getting the .2 needle, nozzle, air cap, and cup. Amazon still was offering 20% and the discount code worked as well, so for just a bit more I got the .2. Thank you!
Glad to hear you’re enjoying them as much as me 🙂
Really seem like stellar airbrushes. Wouldn't mind winning and getting the chance to try one out!
Very best luck in the draw 🙂
Great video Stuart :) Unrelated to the video TBH; there was a video a few days ago by someone else that Citadel have changed their paints and not told anyone. Have you noticed any difference? Happy birthday to Jacob for November.. the big 10.. double digits :) Please tell them both they've done a great job painting their figures :)
Thank you Julian, I’ll definitely pass that on to the boys. I don’t use a huge amount of Citadel paint outside of Contrast, so the stuff I have tends to last a while. But I’ve not noticed anything myself.
Thank you so much, I've only just had the chance to watch this. It's incredible to stop and think how intertwined Gav is throughout my 25 odd years in the hobby. I love all of his work!
Very similar for me as well, glad you enjoyed it 🙂
You may want to look at Oathmark for fantasy. It's a simpler rule set than Warhammer fantasy. I have three boys that play it with me. My five year old daughter is already clamouring for a goblin army. I am glad you were able to find something to engage your sons.
Thank you. That’s a very good shout, I might give that a look.
When the second generation dwarf plastics came out, I was raving about how great they were on the old Warhammer forum that GW ran, back in the day. Mr. Thorpe actually replied to my post. Almost 20 years later, I still remember that day. It was as if Odin had shown up in my living room.
That’s amazing, such a different time for GW and engagement with the community.
Great video. Like you, i too am a wargaming dad. My youngest two who are 7 & 4. As you say, a slow and steady introduction into gaming, making and painting is the way to do it. My lads love painting. When it comes to gaming, Black Seas was our gateway game. Its a great game.i simplified the rules a bit, blue sheet down, a few rocks and stick some pirate flags on top of those lovely ships and we were away. Really good fun. Its a great hobby to share with your kids. Enjoy😊
That’s a great idea with Black Seas, Pirates and kids is a good combo.
Very cool video Stu. I laughed when you mentioned about your youngest cheating his way to victory. I know my boy loves to win and really dislikes the idea of not winning. Even with a small race if I come first he will still confidently state he won. I imagine all kids start out this way before learning the art of not needing to win all the time. I had a thought too that the original space crusade game could be decent for younger gamers. It has been many years since I played but I remember it has relatively simple rules and was played in about the same area as a standard board game (since effectively that’s what it was). I think I have a couple of copies in the garage. I bought extra since it came with “minis” that are pretty close to 40k minis albeit not as detailed, though part of that is the age of the game
That’s a great idea with Space Crusade, I really enjoyed it myself as a teen (after Heroquest kicked it all off), you should definitely give it a go with your lad and report back. I may have to see what they go for on eBay these days.
One Page Rules is another place to look for a rule set that can be played in quite a straight forward way. Thanks for the ideas here.
I do need to check those out one day
How I read the title: How to start your Children on Crack Cocaine
Interesting. I really hope they can afford Warhammer. It's way too expensive and addictive for most adults!
I hope so too, like most hobbies and leisure activities it can be expensive.
Step 1: put them through college to get a doctorate to afford Warhammer
😂 Very true, same with so many hobbies.
I'd like them to at least list all the old 6-8th edition Fantasy models that are still around in Age of Sigmar in the Old World section. A lot of people often come into the gaming groups I'm apart of, asking "is this model legal in Old World" and it's a model released in 2007. The Whole Daemon Range should be there, and Beastmen too. My friend was gonna start Beastmen until they announced that they were retiring them, only to bring them back at a later date for Old World.
I think this would be really sensible as well, and they should be proud of ‘dual branding’ them. I think sadly it’s driven first separation of IP, but secondly down to internal accounting. It appears that each department may have its own targets, and products purchased under one banner being attributed to the ‘wrong system’. I can understand why internally each department wouldn’t want that, as success through sales might reflect on their ability to do future projects, but the customer gets a worse deal out of it. Unfortunately the way of modern corporate business means that the shareholder is the most important customer, so as long as the sales targets are met overall, these ‘internal’ adjustments would never really be seen as a problem or priority. You may have given me an idea for a video though…
I've used airbrushes on and off over the years and no ones ever told me not to pull the need out the wrong way. Probably explains why I muff mine up so often
I don’t think it’s the worst thing you can do, but was taught that early on.
@MiniatureRealms yeah makes sense though. Cheers
I'm loving it!
Excellent, me too 🙂
Loved this Stu - really wonderful and heart-warming stuff - delighted you’re starting to develop that gaming relationship with your boys, loved watching and long May it continue! Damian
Thank you Damian 😊
Nah man not warhammer! start them on something else. They have all their adult lives to get addicted to corporate overlords and their plastic crack 😂
😂 very true
Excellent video and sterling parenting 👍 Get ‘em started early (on the Ansell pose)
Thank you 😊
thank you for the video, this looks like a good start for an airbrush!
I think the prizes are excellent starter brushes, but the Mobius 0.3 is also a very good option, and good enough that it wouldn’t need to be updated for a while or at all. The 0.2 I reviewed in this video might be a little hard to learn with, the 0.2 needle is probably better for detail work.
The GHAD-39 looks interesting, any possibility of a quick review of it before you post it?
I don’t have a review copy, just the sealed ones sent as prizes I’m afraid.
A brilliant video! Great ideas! My little lad is 2 so he's a tad young but i'm looking forward to being able to introduce him to wargamming! He already shows an interest, loves looking at the miniatures. Anyway, really awesome video! Thank you!
Thank you 😊
This video is gold. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you 🙂
Absolutely awesome video! and great for us new dads. Any thoughts of trying One Page Rules with your kids? could do fantasy regiments etc in that ruleset.
Thank you 😊 You know I still haven’t checked out one page rules, I really need to. I think it’s because I choose mainstream games that I can scale as they learn more, but I probably need to check them out.
@@MiniatureRealms Totally makes sense! again just wanted to say that this was great. As someone who has a 3 year old and another one on the way soon. Definitely looking forward to including them in the hobby in the future years.
Thank you, and hope your kids follow your footsteps into gaming as well. 🙂
Maybe for fantasy you can give a simplified version of the skirmish rules a try. I've recently discovered this set of rules in the link and like you mentioned you treat each individual as a unit. No face up/face down knocked down/stunned rules to complicate things, just fail a save and lose a wound. Could be a good way to get playing with the Orcs and Goblins you mentioned without needing a whole lot painted. bloodandglory.baddice.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/wfb-skirmish-2014.pdf
And dice towers. Use dice towers. My 5 year old had a great time playing Silver bayonet. But she really wanted to chuck dice
That is a really good idea, the dice do go everywhere!
Your kids paint better than me mate 😂😂😂 You love to see it, hope they have a good hobby experience
😂 They’re enjoying it very much so far
I think this might be your greatest video ever. I don't have children of my own, but when I was a kid my Dad encouraged me to always be around models and miniatures. He took me to a Games Workshop waaay back when I was about 12 years old (1983!) If not for him introducing me to the world of gluing stuff together and painting them I might never have caught the bug. To see your sons at such a young age actually sitting down and modeling and painting on that level and on to an actual skirmish game is nothing short of uplifting! YOU sir are one of the coolest Dads on earth. This kind of parenthood is what will ground your boys with purpose and give them an interest that could potentially last a lifetime!
Thank you for such a really lovely comment 😊
Next up? Napoleonics!
Just kidding, Battletech before Blucher, obviously! :)
😂 I think I have my old Wargames Research Group Horse and Musket set of rules knocking about somewhere.
I love your paint job! Starting an ACW Army right now my question is: how to paint the grey coats? Would Gryph-Charger Grey be fine? For example if needed after other paint is spilled on it or so. I coated the Minis with Greyseer from Citadel. Keep up your great work!
Thank you. Gryph-Charger is a good option, so is Basilicanium Grey as well. They varied a great deal, you can freely try a a few different ones.
Fantastic interview. Great listen to a legend....played Dwarfs since warhammer 3rd edition in around 1990....but moved over to One Page Rules to allow me to still get my army used.👍
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it 🙂
My favourite Author!
He’s written some of my favourites
Interesting! :) Air brush for me have always ben a step up i havent had the courage to take yet :) but who knows maybe i should try it out. the results def. looks amazing if you get enough practice! :) ty for the video.
Definitely something worth dipping into, once you’re up and running it’s an amazing tool.
@@MiniatureRealms y! :) I have ben dorment here on youtube for almost a year duo to some chemo therapy, but in around 3 months if everything goes well i should start feeling abit better :)! then i prob. look into the adventures of an airbrush and maybe even try my luck with NMM xD ! Anyway ty! :)
Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell, and hope your recovery goes well.
@@MiniatureRealms ty! it will =)
"Do you want to be a tournament player or do you want to be a Dwarf player?" I love that old school mentality. I got into the hobby around thebsame time as Gav, and I remember a time when everything was not aimed at pandering to tourney players😅
Yeah wargaming in general has shifted quite a lot over the years.
Cool bro🔥
Thank you
Fantastic interview, thanks for sharing this Stu!
Thank you Jordan 🙂
hey what scale is it in?
28/32mm 🙂
@@MiniatureRealms thank you so much
7:20 Throw me! But dont tell the elf ;]
😂
I just ordered a bunch of dwarfs yesterday and I'm looking foward to paint them , this ones look amazing and I'll try to paint them as good as this ones
Thank you. I may have ordered quite a few more bits myself 😅
Grombrindal The White Dwarf is a very good choice. 😊
It’s a lovely model
Owww that 39 looks really nice. Cant say I like the trigger on the 68 but I know a couple people swear by them. Good uncomplicated compo. Keep up the good videos.
Thank you 🙂
