    I am reaping the benefits of the gold tacky styles being out of fashion. Love that gold 70s glitz

    Google dating dunhill rollagas and you'll find an article where you can find pretty much the exact year. Mine has those concentric circles on the bottom plug likes yours. Mine is a 71. Check your ref number on the bottom. If it's the same as mine is also a 71 based on the logo location and other things. I have the bark gold one and love it. 70s flash. Tacky? Who cares, I love it. Mine is fully rebuilt, ultrasonicly cleaned, all the rubber replaced, with the box for 125 usd plus a little shipping. Can't beat that.

    Since you have the official black flints, could you measure one (in mm, please) so I can see if the ones I almost bought were fake? Most of the time places I would go to are either sold out or only have the reds.

    Super inspirational and well made video. I own the "pipe version" in silver since about ten year and it is working flawlessly. Really impressive piece of engineering! Take care! Greetings from a new subscriber in Sweden

    Nice video, particularly since i have the exact same Lapis model. In fact, after numerous attempts to repair a leaking valve, i sat down last night and had another bash. So far, it's still holding gas. Also the plus with Dunhill, in contrast to Dupont, you don't need to shell out at least€40 for the special tool to remove the gas filler valve. Furthermore, if like me you have different model Duponts, then you'll need another valve extracting tool, as the diameters in the Ligne1 & Ligne2 are not the same. Bugger! However, have to disagree on your pricing. If you look at the market, the lacquered ones tend to cost more than the plain silvered or gold coloured ones.

    I use simple minty toothplate on my all silver plated. It takes a little more time but the result is much better than brasso.

  • @HistoricGentleman
    @HistoricGentleman11 ай бұрын

    use Happich metal polish,Simichrome, or Flitz, not brasso, as these as all far less dangerous to finishes... For grease on the spring WD40 will work but watch grease or white lithium grease is far better as you can add it directly to spring and it will remain and lubricate

    Great Video! I managed to get my hands on a similar lightet. Cleaned it up, changed the flint and added butane. It works, but the flame is half of yours. Any ideas why?

    You can twist the nozzle with the s.t dupont wrench or a needle nose pliers to adjust the flame height. CW lowers flame and CCW raises the flame. Not practical for on the fly but definitely a set it and forget it practice.

    I believe you have one big issue. You have to replace the sponge aka pressure regulator. I’ve never repaired a vintage lighter and ever seen one that wasn’t in bad condition. Thats why yours practically doesn’t adjust at all when you roll the wheel. Thats the whole point of these! The seals can be greased and reused if it works but the sponge has to be changed unless you like a big flame unable to adjust it.

    There are a few seals, but it is not magic. The one around the fill valve rarely fails. The 2 o-rings in the flame control valve are small but can be replaced by hand. The seal in the needle valve is a little more advanced, but also doable with the correct tools and patience. Overall, it is not very difficult to disassemble and reassemble

    Leaking from the fill valve? It’s supposed to. It closes off when you close it. This is an old one. Different model then the popular ones.

    I believe, possibly, that your lighter 'could' be fake as ST DuPont always have a hand painted coloured dot inside the filler cap. It looked like your cap didn't have this coloured dot when you took it off and turned it over. I hope for your sake I am mistaken and it simply wasn't clear in the video.
