Since you have the official black flints, could you measure one (in mm, please) so I can see if the ones I almost bought were fake? Most of the time places I would go to are either sold out or only have the reds.

You can twist the nozzle with the s.t dupont wrench or a needle nose pliers to adjust the flame height. CW lowers flame and CCW raises the flame. Not practical for on the fly but definitely a set it and forget it practice.

Hi can you please help me, so far my lighter seems real. It has its box. Red spot inside fuel lid. Its seem quite clean inside, I followed your video the difference is fuel lid has half ring handle for opening. I no nothing about this lighter. The writing runs across the narrow base the ind ented Ð with wings and serial no is obviously hand done. Could you advise me if possible. The case is complete. There are no initials on lighter lid. I know your not an adviser but I'm Lost as to who to get some honest feedback if I knew which lighter I had it would help. My name is Linda and I'm very grateful to find your Video. I really appreciated your Video as so informative thankyou kindly Linda

Hey! How did you clean the striking wheel? (the black one that strikes the flint) Should I use a toothbrush?

  • @sy2km234

    @sy2km234

    3 жыл бұрын

Dan Kim Yes, that is something you could do. Just open up the flint compartment (the same way you would to change the flint), then pull out the striking wheel (it is just stuck on a cylinder). You can then submerge it in a mild cleaning solution and brush it off!

I use lukewarm water (if possible distilled) with a little bit of jewelry cleaner or cleaning alcohol (however, make sure to remove all the alcohol bevor lighting as it is highly flammable). But, generally you can use everything that won’t ruin the finish, end up being sticky or could clog up the mechanism.

that lighter is the pre 1972/73 style pre rotating fuel adjuster. 1964 to 72-ish is when that style was made. Looks nice. I don't think that is silver plated. it looks like palladium to me. most are not silver

@@sy2km234 after a second look I think it may be silver plated. A little bit of white tooth paste on a damp cloth will make it shine again. I don't think it's palladium because they usually don't get that dull of a color. Shine it up and it will look great

I was looking for this information! I saw a beautiful small linge 1 diamond point style, with that "gas shutter" and I've never saw it before, always saw it with the roller. Everything seemed right to me, markings, serial number looks stamped numbers by number etc but the gas regulator got me doubting. Thanks for the info!

Thanks as just bought one at a fair for £2 and it has the slider like this video and most models had the roller which confused! Mine makes a more robust ping, serials are not perfectly aligned - however the cap has no colour..the red colour is in the chamber where you insert the gas.. Great video!

In my small experience, out of three brands (Dupont, dunhill and cartier) it seems to me that Duponts are by far most frequently faked. That is the problem of buying cheap s.t. dupont off Ebay. It also seems to me that Cartier's are less faked. Hence buying dunhill is likely easiest (given how common they are and less price variation), cartiers are more expensive (compared to dunhill of comparable age/condition), while duponts are very tricky. Very.

Mr On-The-Note No, there are different varieties. Just the orientation of the logo is not a sign of an unauthentic lighter.

Nathaniel That is the case as mine is from the 70s. Firstly the corners didn’t use to be as sharp as they are nowadays and, secondly, almost half a century of wear has rounded the corners of slightly. If a modern ligne 2 had corners like that I’d be worried, but on a vintage one that is perfectly normal!

Nathaniel Firstly, congratulations! If you take good care of it it’ll last for ever. Identifying old S.T. Dupont lighters is really difficult, I had to look for a while too. The issue is that they made a lot of patterns and they didn’t really keep any track of them to say it bluntly. There are no serial numbers or real model numbers. However, there are a few people on forums that have a really well trained eye and are able to tell you some more about your lighter!

Leaking from the fill valve? It’s supposed to. It closes off when you close it. This is an old one. Different model then the popular ones.

I believe, possibly, that your lighter 'could' be fake as ST DuPont always have a hand painted coloured dot inside the filler cap. It looked like your cap didn't have this coloured dot when you took it off and turned it over. I hope for your sake I am mistaken and it simply wasn't clear in the video.

That lack of "ping" has me feeling sus about that lighter brother. With how much stress Dupont puts into ensuring that ping in every single one of their finished products before releasing it, you might have purchased a fake :/

As I said in the video, the older models are not known for their sound. Only newer, Ligne 2 models are known to have that, now characteristic, bright, clear bing sound. There are several other videos of my model on the Internet, and you will soon realize that none produce that sound.
