Keys to breaking ANY target score (whether it's 120, 100, 90, 80)... be REALISTIC about your abilities and tendencies with every club, have a plan for every hole before you hit the first shot, and the last one to me is the most important. Focus 100% on the shot that you are about to hit. If you hit a terrible shot/duff... give yourself about 5-10 seconds to analyze what you did wrong swing/mechanics wise, another 5-10 seconds to re-evaluate your plan for the hole, then STOP THINKING ABOUT THAT SHOT. If you were going to try to hit a par 4 (on the card) green in 3 shots (your new par is 5) and your plan was to hit a 5 iron 160y into the fairway, then PW PW onto the green, but you top the 5i tee shot and it only goes 75 yards... regroup. Figure out if you can still hit two more easy/confidential shots to reach the green. If not, 3 shots to the green, now it's a par 6 and you make up ground elsewhere.

I think it may have been Arnie Palmer who first said "don't be a dingleberry." Or was it John the Baptist. Anyway that's solid advice 24/7 x 365. My mother always stressed common sense, I kept trying to tell her most people go on impulse not on instinct. Watch a cat trying to catch a bird. Or a frog trying to catch a bug. They sit and focus, then act. Use your instincts, control your impulse. Building a better game day to day, swing by swing. Visualize it. Luvya stuff man. THANX.

Thanx for this Matt. Getting back into golf after a long (too long) hiatus. I am a lefty. Finally Played my first 9 of season yesterday n hacked the crap out the course. This is the round I was trying to play. My game is where your lefty game is right now...or worse. Believe me I will be watching this video often.

Maaan, I have had a few rounds where my striking has been absolute garbage. That lawnmower pull tip immediately brought it back. Made golf fun again! Love that you don’t ever give swing advice but knew this is a tip that can universally apply to everyone. Whatta coach!

Better technology with drivers and a longer ball. There are tons of players that hit it longer now than 20 years ago because of these things.

With a 8 iron and a sand wedge, everyone can break 110 unless they are putting severe mental barriers in the way. Then they need to work in their self sabotage away from the course

Ive been shooting in the 80s after much practice and chasing that elusive under 80 score. On these excursions it helps me to narrate out loud in chief playa voice like your videos. Helps to keep me focused and take off the pressure. Loved your series in scotland and in the US. Greetings from Florida playa
