  • @TalmageMadsen
    @TalmageMadsenАй бұрын

    Hey, you can try printing this: www.make.toys/custom-toy-view/?toyId=gsQkMBxfrXYZTqwjF I can't guarantee it will work because the Toybox printer has a relatively small build volume, which means that this transformer was scaled down to 50% size to fit on the build plate. This might cause the transformer's joints to be too stiff, or even cause them to fuse, so printing it will definitely be an experiment! I also uploaded this: www.make.toys/custom-toy-view/?toyId=2Dht32SDZrN5tp8Cb This will be an even more challenging print, and I had to scale it down to 90% size to get it to fit. Try the first one first and if you are successful, give this second one a try!

    If you use ABS, would this 3D printed optimus prime’s joints be tighter? Because I only have PLA and he was loose when I used PLA.

  • @TalmageMadsen
    @TalmageMadsen8 ай бұрын

    He's designed to be loose. Its a fine line between fused/stuck parts and loose joints when it comes to print in place parts. Optimus in particular is meant to be printed on all levels of printers, from dialed to relatively sloppy, so his loose joints are a result of that. You could maybe try different scaling or (like you suggested) a different material to experiment with tighter joints.

    wish i had a good 3d printed :(, i have been trying to print these for some months now but i only have the k7 3d printed as it was the only one i could afford :( the parts always glue together and when i try to separate them they break, even tho it is at the right size or a little bit bigger, i also tryed printing a snap together figure like mini 13 so it could fit in one print, the pieces always broke even tho i printed it a lil bigger, does any of you know a way so i could print cool action figures? (sorry for my bad spelling im spanish)

    Don't knock Bumbletrain - The eventual story of that poor brainwashed robot was kinda awesome. (IDW eventually decided that Hearts of Steel was a LARP organized by the real Shockwave (not the 19th century boat) to see if the various personalities of the bots involved were part of the reason for the war or some shit. The HoS bots were unconnected cybertronians who were fighting one another, but Shockwave replaced their personalities with ones of his own invention. In the IDW continuities, life is what happens when Shockwave is making other plans.

    I've seen quite a few 3D printed TF models before. Hell, I have the literal first print of the first 3D printed transformer in a box around my house somewhere. I have not seen someone attempt and succeed at a whole series of print-in-place TF toys before. Your work is a triumph in both Transformer 3D printing and print-in-place design. You rock!

  • @TalmageMadsen
    @TalmageMadsen Жыл бұрын

    Despite being an obvious weak point in the design, in all of the test prints I did, the only issues I had with the shoulders were the joints fusing and not with layer adhesion. I think it may just be a difference in the slicers and printers that caused your print to fail. Tolerances are tight, so what worked on my setup may not work the same way on yours. Hopefully the print with supports solved the issue!

  • @TalmageMadsen

    You could probably do it in meshmixer or something. I just model faces like any other inventor part. It's kind of jank but they're so small that most fdm printers can't really resolve them anyways.

  • @TalmageMadsen
    @TalmageMadsen Жыл бұрын

    To 3D print something is fairly straightforward. Once the printer is set up (this can be easy or fairly difficult depending on the printer model, but they have improved a lot over the years), you find a 3D file you want to print, put in a program called a slicer that makes your file into the same computer language your printer uses, and then put the sliced file (now called gcode) into your printer to print. If you are thinking of designing your own models, consider this: to design something in 3D can be a more diverse process that can be done through a number of programs. Fusion 360 is a great free option, as well as TinkerCad for beginners. There are also 3D sculpting softwares that are better for designing characters and terrain, as opposed to parts and mechanisms. Just depends on what you want to do. It will probably take a lot of practice whatever approach you decide to take.

    @kianzky 316 I actually don't have a 3d printer. Right now I use a printer available to me at the university I attend. Before that I used one through my highschool. My advice if you want something printed and you don't live way out in the boonies is just to look for a 3D printer managed by some institution that lets you pay a small fee for material (and sometimes time) for the print. Schools, libraries, universities, and maker spaces are all locations that would likely have available printers. Hopefully most of them aren't gonna be exclusive to students or anything either (I know my university's printer isn't exclusive).
