    I know you'll do right by your customers and so should AMC. I'll send a warning email to a couple of UK builders who use these with a link to this video, if you don't mind.

    Not the sort of thing anyone would easily notice. Conversely, I see the AMC ports and seats are still as shocking as ever🤣

    Anybody out there who knows anyone building high powered waterboxer engines? It'd be really helpful if someone told me because I'm at a fork in the road with choosing an engine for my project car right now and I'm trying to avoid anything air-cooled.

    It's a water boxer from a Vanagon? I know these blocks are type 1 basically with water jackets did you mail off the water jackets and use oversize pistons and cylinders and is there an advantage to the block having sleeves in the lifters

    The engine was still water-cooled! The piston and crank are stock sized!!! If you go to theshoptalkforums and look up 'All Torque - 1856 Oval', you'll find the 'build' of it.

    The sleeved lifters allow you to run Type 1 lifters (lightweight solids that'll allow revs) over the hydraulic lifters which don't like going over 5,000 rpm if my recollection is correct.

    @@DORIGTT wow thanks for the info appreciate it yeah hydraulic cams don't like high RPM my 1776 was a slug until I pulled out the hydraulic can put back the original solid lifters

    How much would it cost to get a stock beetle running like this. All aspects. (Engine,transmission,ECU, etc)?

  • @lennyauditt
    @lennyauditt8 жыл бұрын

    +Ari Whisson i would guess some where around $20,000, i bet the motor and turbo set up is around $10k, and the ECU can run from 5-8k, then that tranny can be anywhere from 2k -5k . and thats if you can do all this stuff yourself. have a shop do it for you... pry double the price.

    Its the same case as what? Just to make it clear for everyone else, nothing Type 4 works on a Wasserboxer, Wasserboxers are watercooled Type 1 engines.

    its the same case. i just wasnt sure if it was something completely different since that doesnt look much like a vw engine anymore.

  • @capsoval
    @capsoval12 жыл бұрын

    No, Type 4/914 motors are also aircooled. The Wasserboxer is a Vanagon motor, but it is a T1 design. If fact a lot of people used to take the wasserboxer case and modify it for use as an aircooled engine before aluminium engine case were available since they are also aluminum; as well as allowing for larger piston bores (larger than 100mm)

    Its a wasserboxer, very similar to a T1 aircooled engine, just watercooled instead (single cam, pushrod). Im not sure what type of turbo they used on this engine though.
