    Hi Rob, love the way you play the game, are you a feel putter or do you dot count. Love the way you move the Aimer out in high winds to the exact spot and the ball lands next to the pin, just awesome.

  • @robhon
    @robhon2 ай бұрын

    Thank you. I have never dot counted and instead go with what feels right to me for the pace I want to hit the putt. Some do very well with that method though and if it works for them that’s great. At some point I may use a simplistic method just to double check my intuition on horrific putts (eg if you go long on Pebble 8) as a check but for now this works for me

    So to help me understand the grid measurements in yardage, each small box is representative of 3 yards ? Thanks for the video, its very helpful 😊

  • @robhon
    @robhon3 ай бұрын

    Yes in almost situations that is the case. And you can see the proof on the video. There are some where the grid box will look different when you are closer to the green. Those are a different scale with the grid in total being approx 10y instead of 27. St Andrews 18 does this. You can use the same logic to check the width of a box when you think this might be the case

    It really depends on the club you’re using, and power %, so for example a 100% wedge is impacted a lot less than an underpowered long iron. Also need to consider landing area. It’s a while since I did a short game series video so will add something on this when I get a chance, probably over the weekend. It’s basically to get a complete view of how the dots are moving over the line of my putt and focus in on areas that look important to understand. There’s also the practical thing of the aimer actually blocking much of your line to start unless you move it

    I'm a big fan of your gameplay and hope to one day be half as good as you. Can you tell me why you bring the aim point back and to the side before you putt?

  • @robhon
    @robhon Жыл бұрын

    Two reasons: the first is the aimer actually blocks a lot of the view of your line unless you move it out of the way, so I always just do that in the first instance, then I will usually put it back somewhere that “feels about right” from the first camera angle and go check if I feel comfortable with that from the others or not and adjust accordingly. The second reason is that by dragging the aimer about you can also have the view of the dots themselves move about to a more convenient place for example so you get a good view of how the dots are moving along your estimated line rather than whatever the default view might have been

    Thank you very much for your very helpful video. Concerning your last wedge shot on the green (23 yards), is there a formula for calculating this?

  • @robhon
    @robhon Жыл бұрын

    You’re welcome sir and thank you for the feedback. For a wedge off the green a rule of thumb is that it goes half the normal distance but you will need to add or subtract a bit for green speeds, whether the landing area is on an upslope/downslope and of course wind. It just needs a little practice to dial in

    @@robhon Good day, calculations on long game, with wind.

  • @robhon
    @robhon Жыл бұрын

    Simple calculation for full backspin is distance * wind / 180 for 100% headwind wind impact, 225 for tailwind. You will need to add more on links courses and was for lower shots such as out of rough, punch, less than full backspin

    Excellent! Holes in one are easy compared to albatross. I’ve yet to score a double eagle. For this hole i pay no attention to the elevation, rather just add 5 yards to my calculated shot. Based on your distance and wind speed, I would have hit the same exact club, with the same exact backspin. Unfortunately, I would have been hitting from the rough or bunker or wherever the hell the ball would land except near the hole 😂

    Solid round. You're absolutely right about the wind not affecting the ball as much on uphill shots, specifically the par 5 at PB where you mentioned it. Can't argue with some people, no use.

  • @derrickallen2054
    @derrickallen2054 Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for sharing. Is there anything in the forums about aiming properly for crosswind? I don't have much trouble calculating headwind and tailwind, but aiming "heavy crosswind" I am not as consistent as I think I should be. I've tried searching, but the results are so saturated. If you can point me in the right direction I'd truly appreciate it. -Leftysway

  • @robhon
    @robhon Жыл бұрын

    There’s lots in the forums but my observations would be this: 1) A lot is just plain wrong. Very few players have bothered to learn heavy wind but many are willing to comment so inevitably the advice can be questionable. 2) Ball and spin used eg fbs vs no spin as well as whether you hit the ding one side or the other give large variations in ball flight (same for head and tailwind) so there’s no one size fits all rule. 3) The physics for a pure crosswind and pure headwind are the same so you already know much of what you need. How I learned this was by experimenting in heavy winds at St Andrew’s and just determining how much the ball actually moves vs what I expected. It’s also a good exercise occasionally to watch top players and compare how much wind offset they used vs what you would have done and comparing the likely results. Generally the wind offset is more than people intuitively think so that’s maybe the first thing to look for too

  • @phoenix7924
    @phoenix7924 Жыл бұрын

    Wow amazing to watch this and your shot selections. Did you allow a few extra yards on the 9th to account for the extra distance the ball had to carry coming in from the right with the wind?

  • @robhon
    @robhon Жыл бұрын

    Yes you do need to add extra yardage in heavy wind to account for the ball having extra distance to travel (it’s moving in an arc rather than a straight line)
